1.
The simple truth is that decent singers make or break a band whereas bass players are ten a penny and a reasonable degree of competence is often all that's required. In other words - a frank , recognition of where the real power lies within a band is an asset to a gigging musician. What's pointless - is yet another thread bemoaning singers and their seemingly prima donna ways. My answer has always been to learn to sing. Become the singer yourself. All it takes is the same degree of practise that other musicians put in. Sadly , when I say this I get shot down in flames but I don't really care. I figured all this stuff out years ago and went and did something about it by learning to sing - mostly by practising , some by bluffing until the practise caught up. Some will say that playing bas while singing isn't possible. I say 'bollocks - of course it is'.It just takes practise. Please don't feel picked on or victimised , Grant. Not my intention. You're obviously very frustrated. My intention is to encourage musicians to think differently and not just have a go at singers. I hope your current situation resovles itself - honestly I do. But I suspect more of the solution resides with you than you think.
Definitely a case of "physician, heal thyself.......!"
2. Got an AKG set up which is fine, the transmitter packed up after a couple of years, bought another so now have a spare transponder fully charged as backup. Agree re the tone, but is great if you don't have a sound person and someone needs to step out front to hear the mix....
3. "Who's on bass?" I see what you did there!
4. Yes, think I'll pick it up next time I'm in Dubai.....
5. We were soundchecking on Friday evening and there was some Olympics on in the background at our pub gig. Guy comes up to me after we finished the s/c and asked me how often there were Olympic World Records run? Not taking him seriously I said " well every 4 years".. he said "yes and our soundcheck ruined his viewing of said record". I suggested then he should have perhaps watched it at home uninterupted on his TV. He countered with " but then I would have not been able to listen to the music"! Welcome to Dorset!
6. Popped into the Plume for the jam last night, checked with the Landlady if she had got her Diary for next year ( as this year is full) and she offered me a gig tonight! So whilst we have been rehearsing a set of funk, soul and bluesy stuff for our first gig in October, we are now going live tonight. So it's a working title for the Band Name and a set list of around 20 numbers ( expect some long solos and jams) but it's our first gig! Anyone in the vicinity is welcome to stop by.......
7. Any slates would be filed and ground to an inch of their lives....
8.
Nobody has even mentioned the fact that the acoustic guitar he is selling doesnt even have a battery cover! Try beeswaxing that you bloody pleb!
True, but can I be the first to mention he name-drops Eric Clapton on an electric guitar with a tremelo which he has "blocked"?
9.
http://www.ebay.co.u...7#ht_826wt_1186 Interesting choice of Pick up!
Clearly an imposter as he did not file 4 4" gouges out of the nut....
10.
Case in point. What did he cut those slots with? A pneumatic drill?
There's Butchers who cut bones better than that......you could get a set of Bass Strings in those gaps
11.
Is it just me or is the Fret high on the treble side. As in off the fretboard?
Looks as if it has in fact popped out, doubtless he will set it up to play as well for the beginner as for the professional.....
12.

At the risk of giving him more oxygen of publicity, maybe he's been subcontracting out his set-ups to someone with nimbler fingers?
13. You had an Escort...did they leave you stranded when they went.....?
14.
Waxoyl??? I have a can of that in the shed I bought for a car and never used Messy sh*t to use.
Why would you buy a car and never use it?
15. I had a 5 stringer, bought and sold it for around £400. Once I realised that in the band mix, the nuances of the different sounds got lost and i got bored with all the cables, it had to go!
16. He actually used to mention waxoyl a lot so I assume he used that up and moved on to[s] Pledge [/s]beeswax.
17. Could someone explain the meaning of "custom" to me please? I'd take it as something made for me especially to my specification, not a bog standard replacement pickup from CH guitars, who bless them are hardly winding their own pick-ups....? But what do I know....? 18. Went to the Bass Gallery in Camden a week last Saturday, loads of stock and the shop to myself!
19. I love the way as a master luthier he now sets up the strap length too: " I shall sell this with strap set to roughly the best length I think you want to start playing... hung fairly high for your left hand to get hold of chords properly... a guitar slung round your knees might look cool in the mirror, but you will struggle to play barre chords properly." I can only assume through ESP he knows your height and body shape and threads the strap through the buckle accordingly.... The logical conclusion is him pre-setting the controls for the best chordal tones......
20.
Oh hey. Is this the same guy who sells the out of date johnnies? He's been mentioned here before!!!! Found it http://basschat.co.u...ge__hl__rubbers
Is that why he mentions " no fiddling with knobs"? I was put off by the fact he could not spell "extension"...
21.
seems happy with cash on pick up which would be the way to go to be on the safe side. Unless he's one of those Glaswegian heroin addicts ;-) BB
He was probably bassist with The Stereotypes then....!
22. Famous former owner...was it Alex James? Oh former, not farmer!
