2. Fairly sure I remember "Harpers" being sold on ebay a few years ago? Seem to think they may have been sold from Germany but sourced from China.
3. I've got a Vince Cable and it's getting on a bit....
4.
It's possible... For optimum setup I believe there's an optimum string height from the first fret to the strings. He's not going about it quite the right way, but he's on the right track. I keep meaning to getting around to doing mine. Though I am waiting until I can get hold of some bone to make my nuts from scratch. If you're going for the perfect setup then I think it's worth doing.
Try your local pet store!
5. This "Paul" is based on an Epiphone....
6. Not played live in a band since moving down Dorset before Christmas ...but I go to 2 open mike nights a week ( where there are few bass players!) and am rehearsing with some others guys so it keeps the hand in and interest up. Have been unsuccessful with one audition and pi**ed about by some other cowboys (a cider and western band) but just keep plugging away. So you could try open mikes, jam sessions, you might meet some fellow similar souls? BTW isn't a Bongo a drum.....?
7. Somehow think if my second hand Squier has a problem they may not be as accommodating....?
8.
Having absolutely nothing better to do for a minute or two, I shall allow the instinctive pedant inside me a quick run around the block. Sutcliffe didn't play a President - they hadn't been invented yet. He played a 500/5. When Selmer got serious about importing Hofners to the UK and Commonwealth (remember the Commonwealth?) they decided the 500/5 needed a makeover. They left the 500/3 completely unchanged and re-badged it as the Senator, but the 500/5 was given a thinner body (2.5" instead of 3.5") and distinctive "triplet" fret markers before being christened the President. Now, back to high-quality luthiery and independent guitar design ...
yep, every day's a school day P.S Are you sure cos there's a guy on ebay who's an expert on all things guitar?
9. " have I missed anything crucial?" It may be bit late to enquire if you are having the body 'chambered' a la Sadowsky....?
10.
This guy maybe? http://basschat.co.u...david-phillips/
Not him, "last active April 2 2012". He's too busy "gluethiering". Incidentally he apparently says as there are no guitar setup/repair qualifications he can call himself what he wants...what about Luthier and Guitar making quals? I know Luthiers who have studied 3 years or more...
11. Re the August edition, the review of the F Bass BN6 talks about "in terms of hardware, a mixture of chrome and black has been used. Chrome Gotoh tuners..." All the hardware is black in the photo, even the tuners! Also Paul Geary's example notation seems to have lost its "T" and "P" 's. too! I claim my free subscription!
12.
Superb programme, sublime performances esp from Dale Davis. A very underated player IMO. Any idea what he's doing now?
http://www.allmusic....is-mn0000564399 He's American though he did not sound it on the film.
13. What's a "Paul" guitar? I don't think he is being economical with his terminology, just numb? Also his explanation of the neck joint sounded a bit woolly to me. Unless it is a neck through design, every guitar has a glued in neck if it is not bolt on... PS Anyone for a "Lee" or "Miller" Jazz Bass?
14. Very nice, my first Bass in 1974 was an EB2 of the same colour!
15. Yes, having covered "Rehab" and " Love is a Foolish Game" with a band, it was interesting to hear it all stripped down. Also, we had subtitles on as Mrs Y5S is a bit mutton, so it gave me a chance to really listen to the lyrics, I normally "filter" them out in preference to the bassline!
16. Anyone else watch her from a performance at the Dingle Festival just as Back to Black came out? Just her, guitar and Dale Davis on Bass, I thought it mesmerising and who needs drummers?! Well worth watching on the BBC i-player....
17. Yes , he went off the rails a bit after he split up with the reindeer.
18.
http://www.ebay.co.u...b#ht_500wt_1287 -these are £29 brand new from SwiftMusic's website. Value added or what?
Can't be from Swift Music as he says: "This guitar is designed by me primarily as a practice and song learning guitar for someone to sit outside with who mostly plays an electric guitar with a band" There could be a prize* of guitar strap for someone who can make the above words into an understandable sentence... * Only if you are directly related to Django Reinhart and you were born on the 28th February 2012
19.
It's like that time I won a strap in a competition, and it wasn't available to the UK. Or anywhere
You need to let that one go...plus it wasn't you who won anyway! (Yes, I know it was ironic)!
20. I see they copied Sadowsky by putting hollow chambers in the body.....
