One wonders if there is a pattern developing in that Bands are being targetted when they are touring and leaving their gear in an unattended but locked van outside their hotel/dogs? Are they being followed after the gig to where they stop for the night or is it more random?

We had a player at the first Yorkshire Bass Bash, he used to be on here then went to Finbass, Ross was his name but can't remeber his Basschat name now. It was a Jim Fleeting Bass similar to the one that was up for sale recently. Just had a look for the photo on the Bash Thread but I deleted it from here due to space issues.

Hi Looking for a female vocalist Wincanton/Castle Cary/Sherborne/Yeovil area. Material will be a mixture of soul, funk and jazz and we have Bass, Drums and Keys/Guitar already on board. If you can play an instrument that would be an added bonus as would having your own transport although that may not be insurmountable! Ability to carry a tune and improvise would be wonderful.
It's never too early, Keith. I once woke up at 3am to wonder what the f*** that racket was. Sorry, I'm not a jazz type. Kudos to his skill, however.
Yes, my neighbour once was banging at my door at 2.30 a.m.-can you believe it? Good job I was up anyway playing my Bass.......

Is it too early to say "I just don't get: Michael Manring/Jaco/Esperanza Spalding/Jeff Berlin/Laurence Cottle/Marcus Miller ( delete at will)?

I've no problem with an acoustic and flats: am concerned when it's a rocket launcher and flats however.....
This IMHO is a very anal approach to rating your music collection. Dave
I wonder where "The Mighty Sphincter" would sit on that rating then?

Just watched ES on Fern Britain this morning! She came across well and even coped with Fern, who having said she played double bass, then describing her " on guitar" to a picture of her on the fretless.

Been asked to give this a mention, it's for Charity. http://czeztikovbrot...roductions.html

I had a largish 2 wheeled trailer and it was a PITA. A big enough one is heavy, impossible to reverse and you're always worried if it will be there when you come back out of the gig, despite locks and clamps. Oh, tow-hooks/electrics don't come cheap either. There is a limit, as has been said already re the weight you can tow in a small car and a Fabia with 5 up and a trailer sounds pretty dodgy. You have to store the trailer somewhere at home too... Far better to get a "man/mam with a van/other vehicle", whether it's hired, a friend, relative or some other arrangement.

Warning-Zombie Content! 70 year old Bassist
yorks5stringer replied to yorks5stringer's topic in General Discussion
All keys played by Rod.....! -
Went to see The Zombies last night in Yeovil as have always liked Colin Blunstones voice. Last time I saw him was in 1974 at Leeds Poly around the time of "I don't believe in Miracles" and just happened to have a poster for that gig which I took along last night for signing. Anyway was very pleasantly surprised, current band is Rod Argent (an ex Zomie), Jim Rodford on Bass ( ex Argent), Steve Rodford on drums and a local guy Tom Toomey on Guitar. The gig was for "Music for Africa" which is a childrens charity set up by Tom and he sends guitars and money to help budding musicians out there. Voices and harmonies were spot on, Colin still has that amazing voice. Jim Rodford on bass sounded good too, through a Mark Bass amp and what looked liked a small New York cab miked through the PA. He was playing a headless Status which had a lovely tone. Believe it or not Jim is 70, even his son has grey hair! Both Colin Blunstone and Jim Rodford are 66 but I wonder if Jim is one of the oldest UK gigging Bassists? Watched the Friday show to see what the fuss was about. Got to say the new album is not the most accessible recording I have and after a couple of listens its one I'll have to revisit.

Anyone got a stagg they'd part with soon?

[sub]I don't know what all the fuss is about..fancy expecting bassists to let alone agree about a bass never mind comment on a guitar....![/sub] -
ampeg stolen, hartke stolen, basses stolen.

Commiserations, and I thought it was only in Bradford that gear was stolen... -
About 5 years ago we hit the same issue. 3 of us set up a Band and we bought the PA jointly ( actually I paid for it all and the others paid back their share from gig earnings over time). After about 3 years the singer left amicably and I asked her if how she wanted her inital stake back (it was around £180). She replied that without the PA she would have not been able to earn her gig fees and she'd had her inital stake back many times over, so she was fine with that. A year later the guitarist left amicably and whilst he did not ask for his stake back, he used it as a lever to get me to do the PA for his works function, although I got paid on top as well. In the meantime I'd upgraded the PA at my own expense, using the money received for the old one to offset some of the new ones cost. I regard the PA as "mine" now and seeing as I'm now 300 miles from him, he's welcome to try and get back his stake! I should also mention that I sourced and organised all our gigs and many occasions, unbeknown to him took no or reduced money in order to keep us going. My shortfall was more than his inital stake for the PA too. I do like the idea of a shared stake which if someone leaves, the new member pays into, however with depreciation how do you work it out?

Flea's Damien Hirst Butterfly '61 Jazz Bass
yorks5stringer replied to 99ster's topic in Bass Guitars
These basses are now on sale, at either £25,000 or £10,000. http://www.designboom.com/weblog/cat/8/view/17935/damien-hirst-flea-from-red-hot-chili-peppers-spun-bass-guitars.html Whilst it's a worthwhile cause, I just wonder if Flea had a load of unsold stock? Apparently DH employs a load of people to paint in his style, so a DH original may not actually be done by him. I think If I bought one and found it was not done by him I'd feel a bit sheepish..... -
Is Basschat under some kind of specific attack today? Just been browsing in For Sale and my Rapport software ( for online banking) told me to get out quick and then the Microsoft Security Alert pops up saying it was cleaning affected files.... not sure I should be posting this!

Liked Dexy's ( though not as good as when I saw the original lineup DMR in the 70's), liked Rumer and Jimmy Webb, liked Oyster Band and the Josh guy. Ben Howard was OK and Hot CHip leave me...... well I'd rather have Hot Chips! PS Liked Ren Harvieu last week too.

Thought the recording was quite deliberately "retro" with odd noises coming in. At one point thought there was something wrong with the car!
