1. What, thought I'd logged onto T*lkBass by mistake...next someone will be posting Chicks at Gigs? My faves include Single Bass, Me'shell and I've seen both Sheryl Crowe and Aimee Mann behind a Bass before too!( not the same Bass)
2. Fraid so..! Back on topic, at the London Show earlier this year they had a quiet time designated by a buzzer/alarm and that was quite successful. Equally most of the slapping at Manchester last year was on ( as mentioned already) the Rotosound stand and also by the entrance to one of the Theatres by whatshername? ( edit: Yolander Charles) who frankly should know better IMHO....... Earplugs are the way to go.
3.
He is a great player and a top guy too Jake. We have been over the slap thing lots of times I know, I have said a few times that they should have a baton that gets passed from stall to stall and only the stall with the Barton can have amplified sound. Word is that the traders feel they pay so much that they think any limits on them would infringe on possible sales where I think it shows most of the products in a bad light where a more focussed time slot would be better and leave serious punters ears in tact after to discuss with the traders/luthiers about purchasing or just arranging a proper viewing at the traders normal place of work etc. The Bar is a good call but it's still near the racket!
I think if Joey Barton is passed from stall to stall he'll soon kick-off.....!
4. It's a shame as I quite like Spam although my absolute favourite is a Corned Beef sandwich.....
5. I bought a handmade boutique Pottery Vase from Diedre Barlow and it cracked within a week.......
6.
I sh*t you not, first phone call I got today was from a guy called Kenneth Smith.
Did he sound as if he'd been up all night?
7. Hi Ken The name's keith barclay and I'm 56 so you can confidently believe I wrote this email myself ...how dare you come on here and diss our cars and our strings I thought we had a "special relationship"? Go in Peace
8. Improvise...it's a Jam night! Just learn All Right Now, Black Magic Woman and Superstition and use those basslines for anything they throw at you!!!
9. You have missed the Yorkshire Bash which was back in March......
10. With it sat at £10.20 with 4 days to go, it could go as high as.......£10.20?
11. Just completed a very satisfactory and smooth transaction with Duncan regarding the Rick Turner Electroline 5 String I had for sale earlier this year. Everything went as planned and his communication throughout has been first rate. Incidentally he is also #8 in the "I bought a Bass from Keith on Basschat" Club.
12. Thanks, will advise the host. Gig's at their Stately Home, don't know how far away from a power supply the Marquee is....
13. We're playing a rather posh Wedding next weekend (a genuine albeit inherited Millionaire) and we will have electricity from a generator. It's just a Jazz Trio thing(!) so my Little Mark Head and the Guitarist's Boogie Combo will be the only amplified backline, and we have a small powered 100 w monitor for the announcements. I understand one has to build in a surge factor and I think the amp output is not the value one needs to calculate....can any one tell me what KV Generator is required to keep us powered up for 2 X 45 minute sets please?
14. The bed sheet looks "oryginal" but the neck has odd wear patterns on the back too, who would wear the lacquer away down near the nut and above an octave as well?
15. I thought this thread was going to be about the character of the same name on Glee......
16. Why have a football team from South Africa moved into selling music?
17. Seems to be an issue with these clamps and certain strings as Mr Bassman made me aware of this some time ago. I have a similar clamp for my headless EUB and will be using the ball end into the clamp at the Nut and the plain end into the Tuner below the bridge. Problem on the E the as winding is a bit longer and would run onto the fingerboard so will need to 'shim' it back a bit.
18. You could do a self build with him, like many and myself have already done. That way you really do ensure everything is the way you want it ( unless you screw up, my 5 String was going to be a 6 String until I cut the neck too narrow...only joking!)
19. Even more scaringly, I'm in a 2 page spread ( literally) of the Mark King Jaydee edition of Bassist Magazine back in day.....think it was the "me and my bass" section!
20.
Yes please to the photo. I've cross-posted on both the Matsumoku forum and Talkbass so the obvious bases are covered. Ta, Pete. [/quote Methinks should have looked more carefully, it's a 5 stringer and the ones I've seen are both 4's! Doh!
21. Having read the letter I think the writer has slightly(!) missed the point. The section called "Bassically Speaking" is where Bassists tell us "what they do in a minute". It is clear to me they are all given the same set of questions to answer. I would guess they start: 1. Describe your bass sound and style 2. Do you use a pick, fingers or slap? 3. Do you play a 5 or 6 string? etc etc. It's therefore no surprise that " out of 27 Bass Players, 18 of them felt the need to tell us they don't play 5 or 6 string!" What I find much more worrying is that on the same letters page, someone has written in asking for an interview with the McFly Bassist....( irony!)
22. I use Rotosounds and have to admit I change them every 2 years, whether they need it or not.......
23. Been playing for nearly 40 years with possibly incorrect technique. Over the last 5 years experienced no pain but occasional numbness in assorted fingers. Went to the Doc last year, sent me for some tests. Diagnosed with moderate Carpal Tunnel syndrome in RH and mild in LH (they hook you up to an electric shock machine and it measures the time the shock takes to make the muscle move) Outcome are some rigid splints to wear in bed (!) and softer ones when driving. As I don't drive much anyway not a chore. Equally my symptoms are the same as some for a lack of Vit B12 and iodine ( I'm a Veggie) so I'm going to start taking some supplements and see if they go away!
24.
Does anyone else on BC have one of these? Mine's from 1984 & I'd like to get a comparison shot of the bridge for possible repro purposes. At the moment this is the closest shot I have: It mainly differs from the standard SB bridge in that the saddle slots & ball retainers are open ended - were they all like this? Pete
There's one in a Guitar Shop I know, I'll take a photo on Weds if you wish. Have you tried the various Aria websites? BTW he has another in for repair as well, a neck through but Ii think both have the same bridge -as we remarked upon it at the time!
