Gumtree G&l L2000 Manchester

Maplins sell Servisol or similar. Regarding the switches, occasionally the 3 Way mini Switch for Passive/Active/Active with Treble Boost is mounted upside down so it works in reverse but it should be obvious to just by listening if this is the case. -
"But, in my opinion, my Thunderfunk out performs my LM11 at every level, except weight." and price presumably? The OP also mentions he likes a warm sound, the LMII has that in bundles!

Why not try a Status Groove Bass? It has the single pickup design of a Musicman ( although it is a humbucker) and s/h crop up for around £300. They have a wooden neck although I believe they do have some graphite bars inside?
-
Its a problem that has been reported by a small % of users both here and in the USA too, although it has usually been an issue when the amp was brand new. Maybe a call to the UK distributors Proel Int? I've usually found them quite helpful. Are you sure the cab was the correct impedance as they really do not like going below 4 ohms?
-
I guess they are always keen to keep advertisers onside and continue to get items to review too? Also like has been said earlier, one mans meat.....

I might be missing something ( and very thick) but surely an electro-acoustic bass not plugged in becomes an acoustic bass.....? I'm sure some learned luthier may be along to mention that the reason the electro-acoustic basses have some kind of pickup is because their bodies are not built big or deep enough to amplify the low freq. adequately and that to get a decent sound from an entirely acoutic bass the body need to be massive, but I'm sure there are some about and a search on the subject may even yield some photos!

The Warwick stuff is actually Beeswax, don't know if it is specially formulated for their basses? I'm sure there will be a Warwick fan along soon......? -
I know a guy who runs a small music shop in the village where I live and we had a number of shops in the area which have all gone down now. He told me if you don't do the sales volumes, you can't get the discounts and as everyone knows the cheapest price from the net they go elsewhere. His key to survival is teach out of the shop so everyone buys their first kit from him ( he's a drummer) and there is a seperate Computer Repair business run out of there too. He told me all his new stock will be at least 30% more expensive this year and that the reason a well know retailer in the next small town went down late last year was they could not afford to finance their stock any longer and to be honest most of it was very cheap brands anyway like Ashton. So it would appear, if you have the space, make some teaching studios/areas ! Oh, he does have a small selection of guitars and basses, mainly basses I sold him!

Slightly off topic, I swapped over my amp to cab lead this week as the LMII has gone for repair and got a Hartke LH5000 with jack outputs. Used my spare jack to Speakon and somehow pulled both leads out the Speakon. It turns out neither were screwed in and were just held by the cord grip thingy. Good job I found out before the gig tomorrow!
-
Careful if you get a Traveller 115P as there are 2 models, mine is an early one that is not as wide as your cab, later ones from summer 07 onwards are wider so they match each others width.

I guess a year ago it might have been nearer that with a stronger pound....whoops beaten to the comment!

A 500W head with valve preamp for £249!!!!!
yorks5stringer replied to Clarky's topic in Amps and Cabs
Yes, it turns and lifts off What I meant to say was you need to take off the top cover, 10 or so screws then there is a bright shiny cover at the front of the amp which turns and springs off, below that is the valve. I did not take it out but just shone a torch at it. Needless to say I did not touch anything else as I believe this type of amp can retain a charge long after switched off? -
Reverb had a S/H Lucas in stock - perhaps Lucas x 2 would be a good answer. http://www.reverb-store.co.uk/clearance.asp
Thanks, and a good price, they make more than that on ebay but its another 3 boxes to shift and its....gone! -

Thanks for the advice and unusually the drummer is sensitive to excess volume and overplaying....( I think he must have been a bassist in a previous life!) I think the sub is 300 watts and the Speakers are 150watts each side which is not loud and it is always a bit unnerving hearing the audience chat word for word as you are playing. I heard some tales of Mackies which cut-out if driven hard and once we've done a few gigs with said drummer it may not be an issues as we manage to get a good balance of sound. Maybe need to look for a s/h Lucas 1000, there's one on the Bay today but its miles away...274 X 2 exactly near Whitstable ! -
The Idle Hands Trio have taken on a drummer as we felt we could increase our portfolio of material and booking desireability accordingly. We currently have a HK Lucas active PA, 600 watts, with 2 speakers and a sub. Our featured female vocals go through the PA, and most of that tends to come out of the speakers and not the sub. A little guitar and BV's are fed via mixer into the PA too, bass is usually just my backline of LMII and 2X10 cab. Our material is jazzy, souly and stuff like Duffy so we are not in yerfacerockers, god forbid!! We also have a 100 watt active monitor for Rebecca (Vocals) to hear herself. We usually run the PA on full volume and a few comments prior to the drummer joining have been, people like us because we are not too loud and they can have a chat if they wish and listen at the same time or we could be a little louder if we wish.... With our drummer now in tow ( and he is not a Bonham) there is a concern that we will need to be louder on the voc, guitar and bass but the PA is at full stretch anyway. We chose the Lucas PA as it was reasonably portable and small and set ups take 10 minutes. We all have reasonably small cars Question: Do we go for a more powerful Lucas type system or are the seperate Active Speakers e.g. Mackies etc a better bet? Very little comes out the sub woofer on the Lucas currently as presumably the crossover pushes the high freq into the speakers? I just wonder if Mackies are a better bet, as no seperate sub woofer and less boxes to lug around? Maybe 2 X 400 watt ones? Has anyone any experience/knowledge on this subject please and could give some advice ? Sorry if in the wrong forum....
