1. Yes, it was the carrier's small print that said" must be able to be dropped 1 metre" that caused me to rethink my packaging strategy from a bin liner to something more protective.....!
2. "What's wrong with Perfect"? It's all that balancing on the barge that hacks me off, along with the mando-cello which just does not amplify well! (Sorry, look at the video!) Actually it's one of those I've played in a number of bands over the years and it's jaunty nature has started to grate....
3. Well, at least it's only your name that is Rusty....!
4. "to 'sex up' a young no tail. " Sorry, It's been a long time since I was down with da kidz....what exactly does that phrase mean?
5. Disclaimer: Crawling up a Hill by Katie Melua is quite nice little song IMHO and we then run Hit the Road Jack into the end of it as it's virtually the same chords. I actually suggested this song to the band and was met with the same incredulous response ! Normally I'd run a mile (or maybe walk a mile in your shoes) for Katie in the setlist but it does fit the demographic of our audiences too!
6. Apart from Rehab (never liked it) and Perfect, I can genuinely say I enjoy playing all the songs!
7. How about a roadie and walky talkies? You would obviously have to teach them how to press the receive button....
8. In the spirit of giving, I thought I'd share our Christmas setlist for our gig at a social club in the village I live. The Trio is being augmented on this occassion by a drummer and a saxophone player, so it should be fun. I have bought some novelty festive headgear for all the band too.... 9. Having just posted a bass (insured I hasten to add) I notice in the T&C, they say "It must be able to withstand the impact of being dropped 1 metre". I have surrounded with helium balloons......
10. "I won the hellborg rig!" Hence the big grin on your avatar?
11. I got mine last week by post but regretably the Jonas Hellborg rig I was sure I would win must have fallen out of the wrapper. I'm following it up with the P.O. as we speak.......
12. Not that any of us would ask a seller to do that.......
13. Re inviting Mr Shuker: I think Jon's customers would prefer he spends his waking hours building their basses: knowing how hard he works I'd suspect he would politely decline the request. Maybe I should start a poll, should we invite JS?
14. It would be good to have someone really knowlegable do a little talk on something..... how about dragging Jim Fleeting along perhaps? plus obligatory Raffle of course....
15. Don't think he lives up the Toon now: he has a big place in Wiltshire amongst many others.
16. I've voted and to try and avoid 1st: Mackems at home!
17. Ha, was going to comment then realised I already had , nearly a year ago! This is an old thread!
18. The bassist from the Feeling plays one as well I believe?
19. Don't get me started on flat cap etiquette...
20. Thanks Joe and birdy , they were both fascinating.
21. Sorry to buck the trend but they basically misled me re the condition of a bass I bought from them, and swore blind it did not come with accessories despite me having the details from the manufacturers website. This was not a cheap bass so I kept a diary of all the misinformation and hassle over a month and sent it to their MD. Subsequently bought items that have been fine but some of the things that make them good ( easy returns) can bite you if you buy that return and they try and pass it off as brand new.
22.
LOL, nice try. If you're in the vicinity of West London, you're certainly welcome to pop around and have a go on them. But yes, its the Gherkin. The load in is going to be very interesting - mostly via express lifts I suspect. How about a free jar of advocado hummous instead?
Hasn't someone from here already played the Gherkin? I know if we played there we'd probably get in a bit of a pickle...
