1. and there was me thinking it was Aids, globalisation and poverty.....
2. But the name "The Bass Fence" might attract the wrong sort of customers... Especially if we had a Bargain Booze counter as well!
3. "It has 145 pieces of wood..." That should help reverse the downturn in the US logging industry.....now I'm an expert having watched Ax Men! Stump Cross Logging-what a team!
4. "There's a muli-storey right next door " Fine, but is there anywhere to park my car? Thanks for the info!
5. What's the parking like and any recommendations for good places please?
6. "Pair of blue IKEA bags (50P each), layer of Bubble Wrap (free cos I have loads), Half a roll of Gaffa tape (£4) ..." That reminds me of the "Hillbilly Case": reinforce the box it came in with gaffa/parcel tape, cut holes for the handles and cut out the bottom. Cheaper than Ikea and you are not tempted by the hotdogs/meatballs........!
7. Roqsolid have made me 2 covers for Markbass cabs, if they haven't done one before you just fill in a template and they make it to measure, if it doesn't fit they'll redo until you are happy. Around £40 http://stargate.terrassl.net/amplifiercove...rtj4b89rj02khe1 Oh and the yellow piping goes well with your cones.....
8. "I just got mine " Then you need to update your equipment list! Musicman SR5 Teal 1995 Fender Jazz burst 1973 Fender Precision natural 1973 Aguilar 500 SC Epifani 310
9. A few photos taken the other week: after I had taken my bass back for adjustments to JS, I went over the Snake Pass to Staleybridge where we had a gig in a Tennis Club. Still not sure why the notice boards were covered in tin foil..... I'm obviously the good-looking one.
10. It's just a bit of a shock to see your....front doorstep on someone else's ad!
11. Have a bump on me, even though I recognise those photos!
12. "Although, I don't mind lending my kit to anyone over 82, with one leg, of Asian origin, in a band that isn't gypsy-folk, breakcore, blackgrind or dub-step... ...IF they ask by pre-arranged smoke singal morse code in advance. " So that's a "Yes" then?
13. We do this in our set, needless to say I don't replicate the ride height!
14. Having seen at first hand the skills utilised by a luthier, I worked out for some of his low end(!) basses he was charging £20 a hour. Out of that comes all his running costs, materials and him working around a 70 hour week. I get paid the same to spend time on here!
15. Welcome to a fellow Yorkshire bassman. P.S Nice Marquee!
16. My Rick Turner Electroline has the best of both worlds, Piezo and conventional pickups and one can blend between the two or have totally one or the other. Consequently it's a bit hard to isolate the fundamental tone of the Piezo, compounded by the flats that are on it. Thinking about it , my Line 6 Variax had Piezo pickups too although the sound was obviously modeled.
17. I saw Nathan doing the Ampeg stuff when Sound Control opened their new Leeds store, only for it to close quite soon after! I seem to remember he did "Pick Up the Pieces"(AWB) as a looped piece(!), I almost went and bought a looper before sanity prevailed!
18. OMG, you're telling me there is no such thing as Father Christmas?
19. Aimee Mann was excellent last night, the bassist, and her album producer Paul Bryan played a Vox Apollo bass ( semi with 1 cutaway and tear drop headstock) and an old slab P (Telecaster) bass with an extra Jazz pickup near the bridge. Some nice playing, lots of slides and swoops up and down the neck. He made it look very effortless and laid back.
20. "All they do is prey on the vunerable in society ": shouldn't that be "pray"?
21. Aimee Mann at the Leadmill in Sheffield tonight..she used to play a mean bass and sing but now she's on acoustic guitar with just keys and drums I think. Best gig (after SD)I ever saw was her and Jon Brion at the Duchess in Leeds doing most of all the material off her early albums with just bass and guitar, Got her autograph too that night
22. "I don't know where ALC is in Bradford" It's in Wapping, if you are stood outside Canal Road Tescos it is the massive modern building right up on the hill looking towards the Leeds Road area: in fact I've just looked out my office window in the centre of Bradford and can see it from here too!
23. Used to quite enjoy The Christians.....
