4. I bought my MarkBass gear from them, no problems(touch wood) and a two year warranty as well. I notice the 5 stringer Tribute comes out at £510 however.....
5. Thomann p*ssed me around royally for a month regarding a bass I got from them that was "new" and had clearly been used, and was missing a number of bundled accessories. I documented every contact with them ( incuding their guitar expert -an englishman telling me it did not come with x cable when the manufacturers website said it did etc), wrote to Herr Thomann himself and got an extra 50 euro credit note. They even suggested I had damaged it deliberately just to get money knocked off: I nearly exploded at that one!
6. Here's an oldish and not very good photo: I must get down to some close-up shots....
7. Book is going next to 'Rich', I suggest anyone interested contacts him!
8. Another Soul/Jazz Trio plus 6 in the Rock Band
9.
+1 If you guys hadn't, I was going to. What a legend. As far as I can tell, Jennifer Moore is no longer doing gigs which is a shame - I saw her play once and was very impressed.
From Single Bass Website: Single Bass news & gig dates Single Bass is currently pretty much dormant. It is, however, likely to return to action at some point. If you want to hear about gig dates when there are some, write to: sb at single - bass . co . uk and ask to be put on the e-mailing list. 10. On the subject of Crack Convertors knowing the price of things...I pop into my local one 2 or 3 times a week, often on a Monday for obvious reasons. However, today noticed a pair of marked s/h Mackie C300 z PA speakers and enquired as to the price as they were unticketed. "£399 mate" was the answer, "Does that include the stands?", "No", was the reply. Just had a look on ebay, a pair of new ones, BIN £319!!!! Someone is having a laugh....
11. Pearl Wedding Dinner in the Restuarant at the Black Horse, Clifton near Brighouse. Played 2 X45 minute sets during the meal at low volume to the couple and their friends and offspring. Had 'My Girl' by the Temptations sprung on us on Wednesday so agreed on a key by email and soundchecked it before the gig: all went fine, paid well and our first tip ever from the hosts! Yes, they could have had piped music but we were happy seeing everyone as a family getting together and enjoying themselves. We chose lots of significant song titles which I guess they did not spot: Let's Stay Together, The first time ever, Crazy Love, Days, Lean on Me, Say What you Want, Cry me a River, Drift Away, Mercy, My Girl, Move on Up, and Perfect. After the list of songs they sent at short notice on Wednesday, our guitarist suggested we do "Last Request!"as well!
12. There's some versions on youtube if you do a search. As to who played it there are 2 choices: http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&a...kpfexqq5ldhe~T2 Kenni Burke or Jerry Knight...
13. They used to send a return label as part of the documentation that arrives with the item: you just need to contact them to arrange for them to send the courier.
14. "Warmoth necks are very heavy due to steel reinforcing bars under the fretboard"...do they mean truss rods?
15.
We did a wedding on Friday night and we've one tonight as well, yes, a Monday Wedding! But we always write into the contract we need to be fed and watered: if not the wedding buffet then seperate meals. If we playa Function in a Restuarant we are often told just have anything off the a la carte, which is nice.....
Typical, last night's gig wedding in a well known Castle near Tadcaster. Asked nicely for our promised food early, they brought us 1 sandwich each (ie 2 slices of bread cut into 4) and a bowl of chips for us all. No plates, cutlery or serviettes which I know is very r&r but not when you are wearing a Dinner Suit. Had to scoff this in 10 minutes as the guests then arrived and we were due to play. Gig went well but only a few got up to dance: the first set was during them eating and then for the dancier set they seemed to prefer to sit and talk. Still we got paid and a fairly early night.
16. How about the "scratch pad": why not just put your bass in an old jumper? http://news.harmony-central.com/Newp/2008/...tar-Heroes.html
17.
Good - did a wedding in a huge marquee in the huge garden of the bride's father's huge house. We usually use 15s for our Pa but had borrowed a set of 12s and set the sub up as well so we got a lovely sound and a fairly good reception although it would have been nice to have been offered a drink of water or something and it breaks my bloody heart to watch them bin the half-eaten buffet
We did a wedding on Friday night and we've one tonight as well, yes, a Monday Wedding! 18. I'm sure there's a few 80's Fender knobs members of this site...............exits with coat!
19. I have to say I'm not keen on "coffin cases": I mean what's that all about? Why rest your bass in a case that looks like a freakin coffin? Equally, what's with these gothic looking basses?
20. You don't get them with hard cases new in this country unless you pay extra: £350 for an 'as new' seems a good price to me....
21. What exactly is wrong with the amp: are you sure it's not just a loose connection?
22.
Not a fan of either band. But, at least (with my limited knowledge) with Blur I had the feeling that they were at least trying to be original. Oasis just seem to deal in clichés. McCartney's contribution to the evolution of bass playing can't be rated highly enough...IMO, of course . But, you could be ars*d to tell us that you couldn't be ars*d Steve
Fickle us bassists...?
23. Went the Variax 5 string route ( see other thread!) which has quite a nice upright sound although noisegated! Moved that on when I got the Rick Turner Electroline 5 which sounds v acoustic due to piezo bridge and flatwounds but does need an amp.
