Thanks for the suggestions but neither of these options gives us some drum monitoring too. Only the singer has a monitor and that's a mini one and she don't like too much drums in it..... I suppose the answer is either one of the above plus a seperate powered monitor for drums?

I have a Markbass LM11 with 2x10 and 1x15 Traveller cabs (the smaller ones) and have no trouble with a 5 string bass on just 1 cab, usually the 2x10 in my rock band ( 2 guitars, keys, drums, bass and vocs). The 2x10 is actually the smaller cab as well!

Played our second gig in a few weeks at the Old Tramshed in Saltaire last night, with 2 more in July to come. We decided to mix the set up so dusted off "Let there be Love". A couple who had booked us a short notice for their wedding in 2 weeks were there and it was fun watching them guess the tunes from the intros and you could see they were pleased they had chosen us. Second set we had some tech problems with the backing tracks for the more modern tunes, our CD player was cutting out and not pushing the sound through the PA so we could do with a more robust solution. What do others use? (don't say a drummer...!) At the end (which we completed through clenched teeth) another couple came up to us to book us for their wedding in August which was nice too and shows that often what you percieve as a problem for the band during a performance is not noticed by the average punter. Bren Travis, a fellow basschatter showed up as well and we got free food and beers from the venue too!

Our trio (Voice, Guitar and Bass):http://www.myspace.com/idlehandstrio when live do some of our set as a trio and for the more modern material augment the sound with programmed drums/strings etc pushed through the mixer into the PA from a domestic CD player with speaker which also helps as a monitor. On the last couple of gigs we have had problems with the CD player cutting out into the PA, we thought due to dodgy leads, which we replaced. However it now appears to be due to a dodgy socket in the Cd player itself. Is there a more robust/pro solution out there that anyone uses as we cannot afford to have drums cutting in and out? An MP3 player which we have used is OK but you don't get the monitoring function as there is no speaker. Anyone got any ideas of what we could use please?
For project managers like myself, this is the total sum of the working day. Project delivery dates get broken down into stages, stages get broken down into milestones, milestones get broken down into progress reports and each week meetings set out the achieveable for Friday. Each day should have its own set of tasks to be completed. Very soon you lose your will to live under the never ending onslaught of deadlines. Unless you can find some personal challenge in there somewhere. I've managed to make even the most mundane tasks like specification writing and fee bid proposals have some aspect of interest.
I wonder how many bassists are Project Managers or vice versa as I'm one too? I also find quite a few working in local Government like me.

PM bump -
Our £1 shops in Bradford sell packs of 40 labels for a .........£1 but certainly not glossy and obviously not suitable for hi-fi buffs and Macs!

I bid on a 2U version and someone must have had automated counter bidding on it too, every time I bid they went up 50p automatically. so I gave up at £15.00, he then sent me second chance offer at £15.00 that I accepted which still seems cheap, I noticed one went for over £23. Not sure what i'll put in it mind.....

Bumped and updated for Thursday night, and two more at this venue to follow in July as well! -
There's a massive thread somewhere on this, personally I've used the ebay parcelforce at £18.99 with £500 insurance cover but others have had differing levels of success with them.

What do I use to polish me bass...?
yorks5stringer replied to Bassmurf's topic in Accessories and Misc
Fender do a kit with fingermark remover, swirl remover, polish and cloth made by Meguirs who do car polish and the like. I don't think you need a Fender to buy it! -

Have a brilliant time and make sure we see plenty of pics!
Hi Ped Hopefully it will go well, lots will attend and someone will remember to bring a camera! Would this be an opportune time to request some Basschat cards and stickers for the Bash, please? Cheers Keith (presumably you have my contact details already?)

Hi Yorkshire and possibly beyond, Bass Bashers. I can now confirm the following: Yorkshire Bass Bash to be held on Sunday June 29th from 12.30 until 4.30 pm at: The Copper Beech Club, 31 Northgate, Baildon, SHIPLEY, BD17 6JZ Tel: 01274 584091 Please note the revised time due to licensing laws and the fact I have a Wedding with the Trio that evening! We have use of a large Function Room with raised stage and I am very pleased to announce that Bren Travis will be running Performance Bass Sessions throughout the event via headphones and also a separate 'Masterclass' with one of his pupils midway through the afternoon. He intends to give away some free software on the day, including Loop-trainer software and a high quality Drum Loop application, with free licenses for all who sit a session, plus A3 landscape Mode/Pentatonic scale wallcharts. There should also be some Basses on sale, my Mark Bass T151P cab and the compulsory Bass Bash Raffle! IMPORTANT NOTE: There is free CCTV monitored parking in the Co-op car park but all visitors to the Bash need to enter their registrations into the terminal within the Club to ensure you don’t get ticketed for overstaying the 1.5 hours limit. I cannot accept any responsibility for your parking tickets! I have also been asked to limit slapping to no more than 5 minutes per Hour and there will be a ritual burning of Behringher Bass Gear at 3.30 pm.

Wouldn't flat wounds be better to use on a fretless? Roundwounds are more likely to chew up your fretboard. As for prices, just Google "bass guitar strings uk"
So the new band does a taster gig at a a pub which which wants to start doing music. The manager is impressed. "I want you to play here once a month" she says. That works for us as a showcase to bring other punters in. Now we need to negotiate money, publicity, continuity etc.. With a normal owner/landlord that no problem but do pub chains work differently? Any advice? I have a few days.
One thing you need to ensure is if they have a music license. We've lost a number of gigs from pubs starting up music only to find the council have caught up with them due to noise and license issues before we've had a chance to play there.
Bought a G&L Tribute L-2500 off Keith this evening, top bloke, totally straight, took time to talk me through the bass and give me a sheet with some control settings for different sounds to get me started. Also helped me realise I need to sell my car to get a Markbass setup. Couldn't ask for any more from a seller. Thanks mate!
Thanks but how would you get to gigs......!
-
Just thought I would bump this due to the new times, 12.30-4.30 pm. Also watch out for some other exciting news regarding a Bass Tutoring Workshop during the session!
-
An excellent purchaser of my G&L Tribute L2500 who paid fully in coins of the realm.....! Polite and Punctual too!
-
I have a Tutor coming to the Yorkshire Bass Bash (Sunday June 29th in case you've missed it!) who will be doing free tutorials during the day and running a Master class session with one of his pupils too!
