1.
Hi

What's the scale length and string spacing at the bridge please?

    Thanks
    Jamie
Hi Jamie

Scale length is 34", neck radius 12", 17.5mm at the bridge and the neck at the nut is 1.75".

If you go on the G&L forum on T*lkbass there's lots more info to be found!

    Keith

PS Weight is subjective, if it is well balanced it feels fine, I've never noticed it being "heavy" but there again I once had a Jaydee!.....

  2. Now I have a natural Tribute I am looking to move on my Amber one to a good home.

It's a Korean one and the amber is just a stain so you can see the swamp ash through it (the solid coloured ones are basswood)

It's around 6 months old and I bought it on this site early this year.

Condition is 9/10, there is a very slight dint on the neck as per the second photo, only just noticed it when photographing it. It actually looks worse than it is!

It has a wide variety of sounds as described in the review section and quite a decent B string too.

I'm looking for around £350 and I'll throw in a Tribal Planet gig bag in new condition at that price.

If it has not sold by the end of June it can be viewed ( and played) at the Yorkshire Bash Bash on Sunday 29th at the Copper Beech Club Baildon.

  3.
I took it to the excellent engineer that sold us our PA and sets up all our mics up and he confirmed the lack of power and buzz/hum. I then phoned up the shop again, Rimmers in Preston, and the "very helpful" salesman told me that even though I'd bought it off their web shop, he might be able to help me get it repaired locally as he agreed it was going to cost a fortune to send 50 kg from Yeovil to Preston.

He advised me to get it repaired at local engineers then phone Rimmers with the repair invoice and he should be able to come to some arrangement regarding full/part refund as it was only a few months old and still under warranty. Work included new jack socket, and re-soldering dozens of joints on the board, total cost £60. When I phoned Rimmers again, I spoke to the branch manager this time and he informed me that I would never have been told to get it repaired locally as their policy is ALWAYS to return it to Marshall, and that I had now invalidated my warranty so there was nothing else they could do. I basically got stitched!

I had a week of decent power and lovely tones form the two channels but now I cant switch between the channels anymore and power has gone again, so back to engineer. Will be selling it on or trading it in just as soon as I can get it 100% working.
Why don't you talk direct to Marshall about it? When I had their gear they were very helpful...I can't believe you've been treated like this!!! Give them a call, what's it going to cost?

  4.
We're getting by on deps in my rock band side project, the last keyboard player left and took the drummer with him. Have got a better keys man now but auditioning 3 drummers on Weds night. I bet at least one does not turn up. We once had a drummer who auditioned and asked if we minded if he played everything slower......! I'm really hoping for a drummer who I can 'lock' with, the Trio hasn't got one and I miss that rythmn section bonding!
Just an update from last night: 3 people to see, 1 dropped out, the other had never played with anyone else before despite talking up his prowess on the phone and was ****and the other fitted the bill but wanted function money now.....!
Anyone know of an available rock/soul drummer in Leeds/Bradford area please?

  5.
I've seen them a few times, both with Lowell George and without. I loved Lowell's playing but the new band is still a great night out.

The Picturedrome is a great venue, only been there once when we happened to be in Yorkshire for the weekend. Really nice atmosphere & much smaller than anywhere I've ever seen the Feat.

Sounds like a good night looming!
So 'Little' Feat is quite apt then.......?

  6. A random conversation at work with someone regarding Nearly Dan who I saw on Sunday night ( there are other SD tribute bands available) led me to finding out Little Feat are touring and playing the Holmfirth Picturedrome on July 7th although this gig is not listed on the LF site.
Our singer lives in Holmfirth so she's getting me 2 tickets...am really excited as I haven't seen them since the 70's and Lowell George.
Love those Kenny Gradney basslines but definitely a band IMHO whose whole was much greater than their individual parts.
I noticed Mick Fleetwood is on at the Picturedrome too.....

  7.
Jeez...seems I'm blessed - all the bands I'm in have (usually) the same drummer, been friends with him for yonks and we're tighter than a tight thing :)

Still, people just upping and leaving is just not on - frontman/only guitarist did for one band of mine a while ago. Lost some nice gigs over it too.

  8.
Tis mine...all mine I tell yah........I'm the very proud new owner of this absolutley stunning bass
My thanks to Rich, who is an aboslutlely top bloke to deal with!! He kept me informed of what was going at his end throughout the whole process, he packaged my new baby up really well, even ParcelFARCE didn't manage to do any damage neither!! :brow:
To be honest I think I've just landed the bargain of the century for sure! One thing I would say Rich your pics don't do her any justice, she is much better looking in the flesh or should that be wood!! lol She is totally gorge
She is going to get her first outing on what will also be my first live public performance at my music school's summer concert.
Thanks Rich it's been a pleasure dealing with you mate!!
I'm so glad someone has taken a punt on this as I was trying to talk myself up to going for it myself! Just realised mine was a Symbass and this is an Abass and has the slightly longer top horn: I bet you are chuffed as they are so nice to play!

  9. 1962 Sunburst Gibson EB2, my first bass, sold it for £125 in 1978 and I bought a second series Squier Precision which I then sold on as well.
Having said that the Gibson sounded awful to my ears at the time, short scale, hollow body, no intonation adjustment but plenty of mojo!

  10.
Would there be any interest in my uprights (acoustic & electric) and if so will there be enough room?
I would have thought so as they are more...............upright! It might also encourage a more "thoughtful" demographic to attend too and we could always have a "Jazz" section :)
Joking aside and presuming I have not totally hacked you off(?), if you have room to bring them that would be great, the Concert Room is massive: maybe the only issue will be actually hearing them!

It does however bring up another issue which I guess we all need to take on board:

You(we) are all responsible for (y)our own equipment both in terms of security and damage. From what I gather from other BB's, people are usually very respectful of others equipment but if the forecast numbers do turn up (could be 20 plus) we need to keep a collective eye on each others gear in case some opportunist thief (and clearly not a Bass-Chatter) wanders in and back out with a Little Mark or £3000 bespoke bass!

  11.
Yes they will work, but be aware that they will get very, very HOT. They usually take a range of bulbs from 150W to 500W - the higher the wattage the more light and more heat.

Don't be in a hurry to move them after you switch them off - you'll burn your fingers and the bulbs will be at their most fragile.

The iColor-4 unit uses 4 of the 300W bulbs in a single unit with built-in "colour gels" but these units are fan cooled.
Won't the halogens come on if anyone moves............. :)

  12.
As others have said above, most LED lights come with a basic built-in controller that allows them to operate independently which is good enough for simple effect lighting. Note that if you have two (or more) LED lights working this way they will all do their own thing and not work together. A DMX controller is more versatile but LED lights without a controller are a quick, simple solution.

Stage lighting is often supplied by "disco supply shops" rather than music shops. Check your local yellow pages to see if you have any "disco supplies" locally - or try Google to locate a shop locally.
Got our LEDS from Thomann, the cheapest around, they are mentioned in the thread higher up, around £40 each

  13.
Im certainly interested. and im sure i can convince a few bassist friends to stick their heads round the door.
Il bring my full rig with me and both basses

nice to have an event in't north!
Thanks, I was starting to lose heart a bit as there seemed to be more "nays" than "thays"!
Yes, please tell your friends, the more the merrier ( and louder)!

  14.
I am tempted but unfortunately, as it's Fathers' Day, I have to stay at home whilst my little one tells me how much he loves me in the only way a 16 month old know how - by climbing all over me and poking at my eyes. :)
Had a re-think as FD might impact on quite a few so have gone for the 29th instead, hope you can come!

  15. Right, listen up as I've spoken to the Ents Secretary at the Copper Beech Club in Baildon and we can have the large Concert Room ( with low stage) all Sunday, the 29th June. I propose 10.00 am to 4.00 pm. There is a large free CCTV'd car park outside the club( it is over the local Co-op).
Baildon is around 4 miles from Bradford City Centre and about 20 minutes off the M62

Could people let me know if this date is OK with them and if so, what they would bring along please? There's also quite a few Yorkshire members who have not responded yet so if you are interested could you 'show your hands' please? I'll give some thought to a Bass Chatters raffle too.....

    I'll start:

    Rick Turner Electroline 5 String
    G&L Tribby GL2500
    Little Mark IIe
    2x10 Traveller
    1X15 Traveller
    a fair degree of incompetence

  16.
A while back someone posted a link for a Japanese guy that was selling on the US ebay. i have had a look for the site but have come up blank. did anyone save it. thanks.
Not this one is it?

  17.
I tried out a markbass combo on Saturday. It was the 250w (I think) with the 2x10 speakers. I was very impressed!

Currently I have a mag 300 ashdown head and the tuned 4x10 cab that goes with it. I am in no rush to chop and change gear but I would like to get into the higher end of the market. So ...

I am planning on keeping my ashdown rig whatever, theoretically it will become a spare. That means I could run the combo with my 4x10 ashdown if I wanted, buy a markbass head first and use ashdown speakers, buy 2x10 or 4x10 mark bass speakers and run it with the mag for a while? Use a single 15? combo or seperates? all at once or bit by bit?

    any ideas please?
It's 300watts at 8 Ohm and 500watts at 4 Ohm with the combo: just make sure your Ashdown Cab does not bring it down to 2 Ohm as it will cause serious damage to the Amp. Two 8 Ohm cabs run by it will translate to 4 OHm but also I think I'm right in saying the Head taken out of the combo has no lid. If you are buying the Head on its own there are 2 similar Little Mark Amps, 1 is 250 watts(LMK250) the other (LMII) is 300/500 watts!

  18. I had a 5 String version of one of these:
    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Aria-Bass-Guitar-STB...1QQcmdZViewItem

and successfully made a Fenderesque headstock out of it, but there was a bit more wood to play with than you've got. As others have said it should not weaken the headstock if all you are doing is reshaping it a little.
I must agree that I don't like Fender type basses with odd looking headstocks!

PS I just traced an outline (having removed the Tuners) and used a power sander initally , then hand sanded it.
