  1. Anyone help me with this please: 'London Reggae label which released Erroll Dunkley and Sugar Minott amongst others?' It's 3 letters and I have C_A. Obviously could be CIA but does anyone know for sure? Have spent hours on google but cannot find the answer....
  2. At seperate times I've had the GFM acoustic bass hardcase which was massive for a short scale semi Ibanez Artcore AFB 200 , the actual Epihone JC hard case for a 5 string Starbass and the Warwick Rockbag which is a nice fit for my current 4 string Starbass. The other case I have in which a Starbass fits is a Blake Bravo semi hard case which is now discontinued.
  3. Looks like a Bassist from the 70-90's, possibly called Charlie or Charles and American? First name 7 letters C **R*** Surname **M*H**
  4. When I had a Ninja 250 210 combo I swapped out the head from my CMD121P. The fit was identical although I had to reconfigure the mountings slightly rather than drill new holes. I seem to remember I swapped over the top plate of the amps too. However as Downunder says, it may be different if there is a tube in there, mine were both solid state and the fan location was identical.
  5. To be fair they do have a 'bean-bag equipped demo room'. What's not to like?
  6. I bathe in Asses MIlk ( or at least that's what I'm told)! Works for me.
  7. The little Micromark 801 used to be available with a seperate tweeter box, I bought one but even at at 60 watts in total there was little discernable difference so sent it back. Not sure which MB combo you refer to but all the bigger ones have tweeters/horns anyway. The bigger and smaller ones both run at 8 ohms but when an additional speaker is added will run happily at 4 ohms. Don't think MB even sell a seperate tweeter box anyway now? An additional speaker ( not tweeter) added to a CMD121 for example means it will run at full 500 watts rather than 300 watts, if on its own.
  8. You could increase your knowledge by lurking in this lounge: There are all sorts of 'interesting basses' and after a while you'll get to understand what is kosher and what is not. With regard to your Bass you seem to have done all the right things: what can happen is people try to pass off a cheaper Stingray model as the more expensive one but this is more prevalent with Fenders as the bodies and parts are more generic.
  9. It's light weight, short scale (I think) and decent enough to learn on. If he wanted a Hofner then he can (as you say dream) as he plays it. Tone wise they are not particularly wide ranging but neither is the Hofner.
  10. It's a Hofner copy by Hutchins probably made in the Far East but certainly not Germany. If it were a Hofner it may be rare or at least worth something, this is not in that category. It's in a case which is good, a cheap Far East Hofner is around £300 new. I think Hutchins just badged generic Far East imports, were not a bad brand but not sure if they are still going? From their website: Gary then turned his passion into his work and Hutchins Guitars was born. Over the next few months Gary studied guitar building, travelling to the Musik Messe in Germany to meet guitarists, makers and industry designers to talk guitars with other passionate like-minded people. His travels, research and countless conversations across the industry taught him exactly what type of guitars were available and, more importantly, which were not. During these first few years Gary had the great fortune of encountering two guitar building gurus, Allan Entwistle and Trevor Wilkinson, both of whom he is now proud to call friends. After a year of research, study and travel Gary put together his first small range of guitars and basses and things grew from there. More encounters with guitar makers including Graham Stockley, at the time with Hofner Guitars, Laura Libricz of Steinberger Sound, Gerd Schaller, a German Luthier and Harry Hornsey, a UK based Luthier helped Gary improve the range and ensured that the set up and playability of the guitars was of a high standard. The team now designs guitars that look different, look interesting, look GREAT and then makes them play! The last words should be from Gary ... “Thank you for taking the time to visit and read my website. I hope you find my guitars of interest and that one day soon you will join the growing family of Hutchins guitar players and own one yourself.” Neon Logo Chandler 6 Green The Beast Pick ups
  11. There is a big 2 page spread on it in this months MOJO ( not to be confused with a Basschatter of the same name).
  12. Snow Patrol numbers go down very well on these gigs.
  13. I did make that point in the opening post although it may have looked like a comment from Facebook which was above it.
  14. Sad to hear of his passing. As is usual when a past fave dies I think back to the gig or gigs I saw him at. Somehow in my teens I was into the Mahavishnu Orchestra ( Possibly the influence of Melody Maker). I went to see them at Newcastle City Hall c. early 70's and was astounded at their virtuosity: I had not really encountered bands who did not play exactly as their records before.... and they were loud! Even then (16 ish) I was into Bass and did not play it but appreciated how Rick held down the bottom end whilst the rest of them went off on 100 mph solos. As usual I bought up all their past material as well as their current album Inner Mounting Flame. Sharing a house with a load of Leeds Music College students a year or so later, I proudly told them I had all the Johnny Mac stuff including 'Extra polation' ( my pronounciation).........! They put me right very quickly!
  15. Now you've gone and brought Wings into it, not going to end well.....

  17. Of course, but if you play for free it creates a precedent. However we did a free gig 3 weeks ago ( I agreed to do it for drinks and food). On the day was told we got our first drink free and that was it. I grudgingly did the gig and bit my tongue at the next rehearsal only to be told we'd got 3 paying gigs from our exposure at the free gig. ( It appeared no-one was paying attention to us and as it was the first outside event in that village for 14 months everyone was just enjoying chatting)
  18. This was on our local Facebook page: Calling all budding musicians and bands! We are running The South-West’s first ever pop up alcohol free bar! This will be a celebration of alcohol free drinks which includes 4 full fridges and 6 taps of draught AF beer and cider, come and see how far AF drinks have come! The event is running for 4 Saturdays from 10th-31st July from 12pm-8pm at Wayside Farm, Evercreech, BA4 6QW and it would be great to have some live music. This has been big outlay for us so can’t pay but can offer you drinks on the house and of course you can drive home! First reply: Sick and tired of young musos being asked to perform not nothing....their teachers didn't provide the lessons for nothing! Organiser reply: Sorry didn’t mean to offend. Just thought it might be nice to offer up an opportunity rather than playing recorded music Don't think the organiser realises if they are playing recorded music they may need a license they buy and we all know the other arguements: expect the organisers are paying themselves something etc etc, why are musicians 'fiscally invisible'? I guess the upside is there won't be drunken idiots climbing on stage or asking you to play 'Sweet Caroline'
  19. They must think a 'fret dress' is when you are not sure the dress you are wearing suits...
  20. As has been said in another thread, the Entertainment industry is worth £111 billion to the UK economy, to give you an idea how that compares, Fishing is worth £1.4 billion. I think the term used was 'philistines!'
  21. He's got a website, if you ask nicely he may help you out himself. Seen him a few times with his band and Bonnie Raitt and he seemed OK and did not act the superstar. Crackin track too, I spoke to his Bass player who had a velcro wrap around his bass neck long before they were fashionable...
