  1. Sorry to hijack the thread but the OP may be interested? That's where I had a 'Producer Switch': you may have seen Lee Sklars YT channel where he talks about a 'switch' that is not connected so the Producer thinks he is dialling in another tone? Actually, real reason is when I bought it it had 2 Mudbuckers and a variety of non standard mods ( as per photo-see if you notice them all?). I've sensitively restored it but left the scratchplate, although it now has a small white plastic insert in the place of a gaping hole. I've not been able to source a replacement scratchplate (other than custom or make myself) and I think the originality is better than a new replacement anyway?
  2. Never used these but they spread the load: https://www.geefix.com/
  3. This may be beyond your budget( and a lot of money for what it is. I've just sold a genuine Fender Blueflower for what they are asking)? : https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FENDER-MODERN-PLAYER-TELECASTER-BASS-BUTTERSCOTCH-BLONDE-2011/193453252688?hash=item2d0ab66050:g:qzoAAOSw1XNesqFu However I'd support the suggestion of a HB from Thomann, although not available in blonde. There's plenty of upgrade pickups in the classifieds here too. I'm a fan of the Telecaster bass, here's a gratuitous pic of mine which is very similar to one of your photos. Oh and you occasionally see other Basses for sale which are a similar copy to the Squier, but with the authentic headstock. I thought called 'Freeway' but not!
  4. I had one and it was quite pokey for a 8" speaker and 45 watts. I see MSL have a demo one for £271: https://www.mslpro.co.uk/collections/all-markbass I got the slightly larger MM CMD101 which benefits from the 10" speaker and a slightly different parametic set-up. Use it for home and small rehearsals.
  5. MSL who import Markbass to the UK have a presence on Basschat in that they recently offered strings and a load of deals on demo gear too. 'Mojoke' a mod also does some work with them too....I'm surprised if you contacted either of them that 'they simply would not reply to your issues' Obviously if you went to Markbass direct in Italy your experience may have been different. I've had limited bad issues with all my Markbass gear over the years but a handle on an 801 combo was replaced with no fuss. Not sure dragging up Talkbass quotes from 3 years is an accurate reflection of where they are currently (and the Italian/Indo comparison has been done to death)... all companies have a failure rate but I'm sure I've read somewhere there's is one of the lowest in the business for a mass market manufacturer. Regarding head failures, I believe that due to the Class D circuitry, repairs are expensive in that there is no cheap provision to replace major components, but this is no different to Class D heads from other manufacturers. P.S. I was startled to see my post from 3 years ago in this thread!
  6. Just keep away from anything that has '737 Max' on its fuselage....
  7. Trouble is it just looks the same as the £150 version, wonder who else does that....?
  8. This was taken from my 1993 Japanese Fender Blue Flower Bass. It is a genuine Fender part and ideal for upgrading something cheaper. In great condiiton for a 27 year old part, price includes 2 springs and UK postage.
  9. Well I've got to admit I put some weight on at the start of the lock-down but now doing 1.5 hour walks and up hills, so it's started to come down now. The Bass is however resolutely stuck around 4.0kg, weighed on the bathroom scales. I say 'around' as they seem to vary by 0.1kg every time I do it!
  10. Strong Feeler for this lovely Bass? Here's what Gretsch say about it: The G5440LS Electromatic Hollow Body Long-Scale Bass is a stylishly seismic new Gretsch bass guitar armed with two powerful new Black Top Filter'Tron™ humbucking bass pickups that endow it with an electrifying deep-end voice and identity. Its single-cutaway hollow and bound body resonates with full bass tone and balance, and features sound-post bracing and elegant bound F-holes. Other features include a maple neck, bound rosewood fingerboard with 22 medium jumbo frets and Hump Block pearloid inlays, three-position pickup switch, classic G-arrow control knobs, rosewood-based four-saddle Adjusto-Matic™ bridge and G-cutout tailpiece. Strung with La Bella Flats, I can't find any damage and it comes with a Stagg hard case. Just revisiting the photos, there are no marks on the back or front, it is just the light catching the body in the sun. These Basses retail at £850 and a Gretsch hard case would cost a further £200 so my price for an 'as new' example represents a substantial saving! Do PM me for further info if interested please?
  11. Again seeing if there is any interest in this lovely Bass. Back in the 60's Fender built the Pink Paisley and Blueflower Basses for just 2 years, 68-70. This is a Japanese re-issue from 1993 and is still in excellent condition for 27 years old. The Blueflower pattern is sealed below a clear coat and although just a single Pickup it makes a good sound,. although slightly one-dimensional. Consequently I commissioned Oil City Pickups to make a custom replacement which has a more balanced tonal pallette but will include the original upon negotiation. I've had a good look at the Bass and can see just 2 small issues, one is a dint on the face of the headstock and the other very slight cracking of the lacquer on the neck, both are photographed for full disclosure. Just to confirm, the hairline lacquer crack was present when I bought the Bass and has not spread and is just the lacquer, not a crack in the wood! On closer inspection there is some very light corrosion on the control plate and bridge commensurate with its age. This would probably polish off but I've left it as mojo. If a prospective buyer is worried about this I'd gladly take some close-up photos of the areas mentioned for their reassurance. The only other slight issue is that the original 1993 case r/h catch does not latch but the centre and l/h still do. I bought a replacement lock set but it does not match and wanted to keep it original....the case is probably worth £100 on its own too! I've plenty of Bass Boxes so would happily Courier it, double boxed ( case inside of box) at the Buyers expense. PM me please for further details.
  12. Just seeing if there is any interest in my Player Precision complete with Fender Hard Case? Strung with Fender Flats there are no issues with this Bass and I also will include the white Pearloid scratch plate it came with, although also have a Tort one if that rocks your boat! I have the original roundwound strings which am willing to swap back over if required too. The previous owner had installed USA built Custom Shop 62 pickups (£120) and I've bought the Fender Tweed case for added protection. This plays very nicely, looks great and I've had a good look around it and cannot find any discernable damage. New these are around £600, plus pickups £120 and case £120 so a good saving. Just done some quick photos but will take more for a serious buyer. I have plenty of Bass boxes so would Case the Bass and box the Case for added protection, Courier charge to fall on the Buyer. Any questions please PM me.
  13. Here's the full text of his apology, posted in 'Status', a newbie can't be expected to navigate himself around our site as well as us old uns..! 'Hello everyone, just wanted to offer apologies for my perceived rudeness. I have been targeted by courier scammers on other platforms so may have become over sensitive. Sorry. I should have been clear I will only sell in a direct meeting and that’s not easy in these crazy times. Having said all that, the bass is still there and I’m sure I can work out how to deliver to the lucky buyer Best Mike'
  14. I've had 2 lots of replacement things for my Hercules Mic stand... great that they will replace them but maybe not so good that they fail in the first place?
  15. The Players are at roughly the same price point ( Sterling dropping in value aside) they were when introduced, think mid 2018. They are still available sub £600 from a number of retailers too.....
  16. Then use all the hardware and pickups from the HB and sell the body and neck bare on here?
  17. Why don't you get one of these and mod it? The bodies are very heavy so maybe chamber it and a veneer over the top. Reshape the headstock too? https://www.thomann.de/gb/harley_benton_hot_rod_5_bass.htm
  18. I thought they were all made at Cowley? I had an ex GPO yellow Van painted blue and two white Woodies.
  19. Go onto the Fender/Squire site or Goggle and you'll find wiring diagrams for Jaguars. Definitely from an earth to the body so you just need to follow it back, if there is not a loose black wire in the control cavity it could be the bridge wire which sits under the bridge. If you have no buzzing ( which should go away when you touch the strings) then maybe it is still connected at the other end?
  20. He talks about John Martyn and Solid Air in the video.
