  1. I guess there is something in the 'don't give him the oxygen of publicity' arguement but I have to admit when I see his latest creation it's usually so bad I have to comment: maybe this is all part of his cunning sales strategy and gives him a USP? In 20 years there may be no new basses made due to climate change restrictions and him making things from unrelated bits will then be hailed as 'ahead of his time'? Best hunt out the felt tip pen.....
  2. That would explain the phrase 'Tuner dials have been taken off the guitar'. Obviously someone clued up about guitars....
  3. I had a Marshall DBS combo think it was 115 and 400 watts. Bought new and never really understood how to get the best out of it (this was 30 odd years ago). I remember it was heavy....
  4. Silly suggestion, whereas a solar panel incorporated into the bass headstock, placed seperately on the stage or on even top of the amp would solve this issue completely. This would harvest light from amp 'on' switches, audience camera phones, stage lighting displays and the audience holding up lighters ( do they still do that?). Surprised no-one has thought of this before....
  5. I applied for a job with the local authority back in 2000 as an exteranl candidate and got it over the internal candidate. It soon became apparent he was a nightmare and I was brought in to 'babysit him' and as my deputy he did his upmost to discredit and undermine me. He eventually left for a job ' more commensurate to his experience"(his words) in the voluntary sector and lasted a couple of months before he was let go. He then embarked on lengthy unfair dismissal procedures which I got dragged into. He was one of those guys when you mentioned his name people took a sharp intake of breath...
  6. New they are around £600 and have a lovely neck and US pickups I believe. However if you are looking for a bargain ( and I have no connection with this): Vinteras are nicer but around £800 new. The Players are Mexican made, the Vinteras, USA
  7. In the text he states 'why pay £105 for a private practice amplifier" which rather gives the game away and undercuts the £250 he wants....? On re-reading it this refers to another amp which he maybe has cut and pasted his blurb from, odd.
  8. Whilst not directly answering your question, I've had an 801, an 802 and currently a MM 101 which I use for small gigs and rehearsing all with electric bass. I felt the 802 was best suited to double bass due to its voicing and additional power and struggled with the 801 in a noisy pub at open mic type sessions. Although the 101 has the same amp as the 801, the larger speaker seems to help and it has conventional EQ too.
  9. The watchdog fined Casio £3.7m in August for restricting online discounts for its digital pianos and keyboards. I knew they'd catch up with Casio , after all the clock was ticking.
  10. Yes, but tantilising glimpses of further projects in the background, watch this space!
  11. Does he live on the slip road of the M3, as there is a load of traffic noise...?
  12. Well, 2 confessions from his text: He's a lateral plucker and a bodger.... At the moment it plays a bit like an Ibanez wizard 2 six string, so I am loath to mess with it... and I am more of a lateral plucker than a vertical striker so it suits me for now! The tuners need mentioning: they are new but I have worked some magic on them... okay, bodged them around a bit! I don't like the Fender shape and have simplified the paddle shape; furthermore, I have made the bass string tuner the largest and reduced the size towards the thin string.
  13. I had one years and years ago, it was the start of my infatuation with Telecaster style Basses.....
  14. Seen where he's burned the wood on the edge of the neck with his router, good god he has a router? It must be one of those roasted necks everyone is talking about...?
  15. Here's a sold 2006 one from 2010, expect they are worth a bit more now?
  16. Looks like an Ampeg AEB1 horizontal Bass but not what he is usually known as playing which was a WAL, a Stingray and a Jazz
  17. Agree, let's not give him the oxygen of publicity.... whoops!
  18. As an aside I saw the Crusaders back in the 70's at Newcastle City Hall with the full line up including Larry Carlton on Guitar and Pops on Bass. Can't remember if Randy Crawford was singing however. One of my top 10 gigs attended.... Re the flatwounds in the 70's debate, I got a Gibson EB2 in 1975 strung with flatwounds, however there is every chance they may have been on it since 1962 when it was built!
  19. Just did an imaginary UK to UK bass send, insured for 1000 euros, cost 26 euros so sounds good. I guess one has to pay a currency surcharge however?
