The issue is trying to find something with 18mm+ string spacing for that money. Most options are 17.5mm or less. I think the best possibility is the new Squier 6 string Jazz. It's 18mm and 34" Scale.

Hello all. I am a bass player in my late 30's seeking a band. I have been in many bands of various genres, from Jazz Fusion, Death Metal, Stoner Rock, Funk, Disco, Post Punk, Noise Rock, Hardcore and Punk etc and I am currently looking for a new project! I am based in Central London near London Bridge, but willing to travel. I can also do backing vocals. However I am only really available to practice on weekday evenings on a regular basis. The only thing I ask is that the band have some flavour or character in their music. Not run of the mill. Hit me up if you are interested!

You may remember I bought this bass recently. I slapped some light balanced tension strings on it and I love the playability! The electronics and the existing hardware has suffered a little bit when the bass was stored incorrectly by the previous owner. One of the Tuners is very very stiff and not serviceable. (Wilkinson Tuner) The bridge is missing some of the locking saddle nuts. I am looking at putting in an order with NorthWestGuitars. I can source a single new tuner and an exact replacement bridge for not a lot of money... Or I can spend a little more and get the same hardware but in a different colour! Do you think sticking with Chrome, or go with Gold or Black? I wish I was good with photoshop to help out with this! I have already purchased three new Full size Alpha 25k Pots and a new switchcraft jack. The existing Pots are very janky no name mini pots and I might as well replace the Jack whilst I am at it. It's active EMG's but with V/V/T The existing Capacitor is a .01uf orange drop style. Shall I stick with that? I know it's standard for Active Pups to have that value cap, but I do like bright tone... So maybe a .047uf? I guess I would lose some of the darkness at the lowest setting right? I am unsure if the range is wider in the pot, or it shifts the range completely higher. I am also looking at replacing the knobs as the existing ones are cheap plastic and they use solid shaft pots whereas I bought split shaft ones instead. Shall I go Metal, or maybe some Wooden style ones? Metal Knobs – Northwest Guitars Wooden Knobs – Northwest Guitars What say you guys?

Anyone ever bought a prized instrument from Cash Converters?

I know the story behind this. They were a friends of mine whose wife stole them to pay for certain illicit substances... Cleaned out nearly his entire collection. He didn't notice until the vast majority were gone. -
What a lovely collection! Your 4 stringer looks great, I would love to see some close up photos of it if you have any about. I love the Black lined white dot inlays. I do wonder what a Neck Thru version of mine would feel like. I do prefer the script style logo compared to the more modern one. Maybe if I get on more sound financial footing I can hit up Stas for something custom... And/Or refurbishment of what I have now.

Hello all. It's been some time since I have owned a bass (2 Years), that situation has finally been resolved. Long story short My US Musicman Stingray was stolen shortly after I went through a divorce, where I lost my house and my job all at the same time. I literally couldn't afford anything beyond sustenance. I sort of have some semblance of a life again after 2 and a bit years, though Rent is extortionately expensive and I don't see it getting any easier ever... But life goes on! Managed to get a bit of cash together to Paypal Pay in 3 on this bass. I felt that getting a bass was more important for my mental health at this point. (Don't worry, I have a large emergency fund and some savings, I just don't like to outlay all at once). Made in Ukraine Stas Pokotylo PJ bass. Clearly a Fodera copy, but with a different headstock. Stas has no website, but conducts business through Email and his Social Media pages. Stas Pokotylo (Стас Покотило) (@guitars.sp) • Instagram photos and videos Mahogany Body Maple Neck with Rosewood board. Bolt on 24 Fret neck, Medium/Jumbo ish frets. Very heavy duty bridge. Not a clue what it is. Wilkinson Closed Machineheads. EMG P-J active pickups with no pre-amp. Roughly 7.5lbs in weight, Though this was taken on a very dodgy set of scales... regardless, it is light! I needed to take apart the bass, clean, reassembly and set it up when it came in as the action was pretty high (Though it seems to have been by choice as the Truss rod position was perfect for low action). Dropped the saddles and all seems well. Very little buzz from the frets if any. I am not a fan of the P-J combination usually, but this is surprisingly pleasant sounding after changing the pickup heights a bit. The Jazz pup surprisingly overpowers the P pickup for a change, which is better to my ears. It has a nice clangy tone with the Tone control all the way up, bring the tone down it has a really nice and wiry finger funk sound. The strings that it came with seem to be used standard gauge nickels. The condition of the bass in the photos is not representative of what it is like in real life, there are more dinks and scratches than I realised. I get the feeling the bass was un-played for quite sometime during it's life and probably stored in a bin liner in a moisture laden basement due to the dings all over and the slightly rusty screws. I cleaned off all of the rust on the screws and replaced the Pickup screws for new ones. There were a couple of sharp dents in the fingerboard which I used the Soldering Iron/Wet Tissue trick on and they are much less noticeable now (It didn't effect playability, just cosmetic). The Low E tuner is quite crusty so will be taking it apart to check out the gearing and get some lube inside it. The nut is a little skew whiff in terms of alignment of the strings, but for now is perfectly usable for the time being. It is certainly a lightweight bass considering it is of mahogany construction. I was very surprised with the pleasant weight. Plenty of sustain at the low end. No Dead spots or wolf notes. Whilst it is a bass of few features and built to a price point, it is clearly a quality made instrument. I believe Stas Pokotylo makes the basses for Jinjers Bass player. I might drop Stas a message to find out a little bit more about this bass, including it's age and original spec. So in conclusion, it's a fantastic bass for the money which needed/needs some TLC, It was certainly made with some care and attention. I am happy with the pickup sounds and I don't see the need for a pre-amp. The Playability is very very good and is on-par with my old USA Musicman Stingray. This bass will certainly last for many years to come Short term I would like to get the strings replaced with some Nickel 40-95's and the Pots replaced with something a bit meatier as the current ones seem a bit crusty (I believe these are 425k rated, not sure what brand they are all I can see is the T on the pot with a wiggly character next to it, any recommendations? Long term, I may try and get it refinished (Just a sand back and reapplied clear finish) So yes there it is! Not something you see everyday. It definitely scratches my Vincen Garcia itch as it can certainly cop that tone despite the reverse P and active pickups. Will I keep it long term? Hard to say, I did actually go into buying a bass that was Passive and Fender USA Jazzish... But came out with this instead. We'll see how it goes!

I remember picking up this album randomly a few years ago. It is absolutely amazing. Just such a massive feeling listening to it. Even my Ex who absolutely detests heavy music actually genuinely likes YOB. In other news, I am very disappointed with the new Swallow The Sun Album. A let down. It's very tame and paint by numbers... 😕

I am officially OUT of this years thread. I got myself into a slightly better financial position and bought myself a bass (I literally haven't owned a bass in a couple of years)... I did have to push the boat out with Paypal Pay in 3. I hope I have made a right decision (Historically, I have not been a fan of P-J basses, however watching Vincen Garcia and his Yamaha BB basses have made me reconsider... But then again this is equipped with EMGs and Reverse P...) Custom built by Stas Pokotylo Monarch PJ bass. Ukrainian based Ex-Fodera luthier. It has some loving wear on the body but I am excited to receive it. There is very little on these online outside of Ukraine, but I fell in love with the understated looks. It's a real risk for me especially buying it online, but who knows I might be quite surprised! (I guess I could always trade it out otherwise!)

I really appreciate the offer. But with my life at the moment, a jolly to Birmingham would probably be the last thing I should do! Trying to find permanentish accommodation at the moment! It has amazed me how quick the change has been from owning a home, happily married and financially secure, to homeless, divorced and financially precarious in under a year.

Sadly that is correct. For about 8 months now, I am a picky bugger as well. I was offered a Short Scale bass for free a few months ago, but at 6ft 3,who likes to downtune, and a long journey to acquire it I couldn't quite muster up the funds to travel... and muster the effort at the time. I used to have quite the collection say 10 years ago. But Relationships took over and basses had to go for funds and over the past year just to survive! I kept hold of my practice amp and cables at least.

I was hoping to break my 2024 duck and get back to playing bass this year (Having been out of the game for quite some time and having my last bass stolen). Sadly I lost my job, marriage and home after a nightmare 2023 so it looks like I will likely be able to be abstinent this year! I do wish you all luck though!
