1. Haha well I fitted the flats today....they're going to take some getting used to but I think I like the sound better. Much more 'bassy'...for want of a better word! Thanks for the advice, a good purchase I think Now for a pre-amp...
2. Sounds like the way to go then...http://www.stringsdirect.co.uk/products/6572-ghs_stainless_steel_precision_flatwound_electric_bass_strings_45_105 so these are a good starting point?
3. Ah thanks, I see...I'm after a '60s sound' to be quite broad so I'm thinking flatwounds would probably be better. I've never tried them so I guess there's no harm in it!
4. Are they generally better than just standard strings? Would they be any good on a P bass and why do they not need changing as often? If there was a newb section I'd post this in there! Cheers
5. Yeah, it sounds like this as soon as it's on the computer but it sounds ok through the preamp/usb interface monitor mix. I think i was using the highest which I imagine would be 48kHz at least? I'm not too sure really, I'll double check in a minute and try it again.
6. http://soundcloud.com/justwilliamandtheoutlaws/its-a-long-long-way-to-1 Would anyone know how to stop the squeaky/high freq noise on this? It was recorded on an 8 track cassette and was fine on there, it only happens when I transfer it to the computer...not even sure what it is! Thanks
7. Thanks for the input, got it for £95 in the end on ebay...sounds really good on that recording - partly due to the flatwounds? Or the Sansamp? Or just the bass....?
8. I was just wondering, would there be much difference between the Vintage V4 and a Squier Precision (affinity, vintage modified etc). I can get a Vintage V4 for about £90 second hand, would I get a decent P bass sound from it? It's just for recording. Cheers
9. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cfi0VitrUkY&feature=related at about 1:00 and 1:50 you can see that he's playing with his thumb, plucking the strings. Anyone else play/played/seen anyone else play like this? I don't find it easy...fuller tone though?
10. Hello, d'you still have the Hofner? If so, would you post it? thanks!
11. Hi, long shot I know but do you still have this for sale? Thanks
12. hmm might go with the Vintage thought I didn't know the marketplace on here existed! Thanks, I'll have a look round. I have an amateur home studio so recording costs aren't really a factor
13. Hi all, relatively new here and would appreciate some advice... My beginners Westfield bass just broke at the nut and instead of fixing it (it was £80 anyway) I'm going to get something new. I'm mostly using it for recording and the style is sort of acoustic/60s pop sort of sound. I was looking at a Hofner Ignition at around £250 but hopefully there's something cheaper that's still good. Would something like the VIntage V4 bass give a decent enough tone that's suitable? I can get one second hand for £80. If not would you recommend anything else? Or should I get the Hofner...? Thanks!
