6/6d in 1963 = £5.47 in todays money! Counterfeit Beatles £17 this month! I hope you took to the streets of Tamworth and rioted accordingly.
I was about 10, my pocket money was 7/6d so I do remember what it would buy. and it wasnt much. I used to hang around the backs of a few places that put bands on cos I was way too young to get in. 20 or 30 minutes sets would be about average, as one band went out the back door, another one walked in. carrying amps guitars and drum kits. 4 or 5 bands a night, all doing 3 or so gigs at different venues, most of which were owned by Mrs Regan and her husband.I think. Wouldnt it be nice to get that many gigs now ? I lived in Brum then, and still dont live in Tamworth.

Not really followed this thread, never was a Beatles fan except for maybe the odd Hari Georgeson track in the 70s. Its 50 years last week since they played in Tamworth according to the local paper, supported by 2 bands one of which was probably just as popular locally as they were at the time. http://www.thisistam...l#axzz2KbWqakeu Interesting to note that in the next weeks paper, people were complaining about them turning up late, in the worst weather the UK has ever known, and only playing for 20 minutes. Mind you, Tamworth people are a bit militant even over 6/- (33 of these new fangled pence)

Only ever tried Asdowns in rehearsal rooms, and thought they were just not to my taste, and knackered anyway. No wonder Entwhistle used so much FX. Only way to get a decent sound ? Same goes for modern Laney stuff. Woulnt buy one. But somebody must like em. -
I do it all the time. Always have to practice stuff I,m familiar with. Working stuff out though, its usually wrong when I try to play it for real. Probably different for real musical people, compared to some I feel like I,m tone deaf..

We take as much as we can get, usually around £200 for pubs. We dont do any freebies or reall cheapos anymore. I never wanted to, but one of my bands used to do the odd one if we were quiet and treat it like a rehearsal, but its counter productive really. last staw came when a fairly well known small Black Country pub wanted not just a freebie, but "could you set up after 9pm, cos we rent the room out to somebody else till then and they like it quiet" Might accept the odd charity gig if its genuine, but we got fed up of doing them where there was no real collection going on other than maybe a bucket on the bar or the hotdog stand etc. But you could bet your life the bar staff etc get paid . And the beer tent were making money. Even the PA guy gets paid, but all of the bands do it free. Somebodys having a laugh there.
I don't mean to de rail the thread or anything but I have an opinion of Facebook band pages that might be worth discussion. If a mod feels this might be a better thing to do separately then cool. I remember a time before social media when bands used to have to set up their own pages online. I liked this as when looking at how it was designed, the artwork that has been used on it and the overall feel of the site kind of displayed how the band want to be portrayed (if that makes sense). You could delve into the world of that band as it used to be cool to have as much info about them as possible for people to get their chops into. From what gear they use to photos, videos, discographies, lyrics, forums etc etc. Then MySpace came along as the new way of connecting fans/industry/venues etc directly to the band all in one place. Again I thought this was cool as you could re design your page to how you like it ( I had my bands one set up exactly the same as our full proper site so it was like an extension). Then Facebook appeared, slaughtering MySpace and now all bands seem to be on there instead. Here comes my issue (finally). I really dislike Facebook for basically turning all our bands into a catalog of bland looking pages that all look the same, and gives no feel of the bands image in the way of the old independent sites did. You have to put your band's info in all the same places as everyone else and nothing looks different from one page to the next bar the photograph. Has it now come to a time where your entire band presence has to fit one tiny page on the Internet? Do people loose interest if its over that amount as that's what Facebook are telling you that's all you need? Am I just out of fashion? Does anyone care? Lol I find it quite sad if this is the case as I used to love going into these band 'worlds' and spend time geeking out on what they have to offer. Even now major pro bands are starting to just have a nice fancy landing page when you on their .com site and all it does is link you to a bloomin Facebook! I hope it's not just me that finds this annoying.
Your not alone.I hate the whole idea of facebook and cant seeme ever changing my mind. my bands pages are all done by othe members, the whole likes and facebook friends thing just seems silly. Maybe its old age, or maybe I,m just a miserable old git.

Thanks. I thought Rosin was what you put on a violin bow, while resin was glue.

Cut the old wires, dont try to unsolder them, Use a 25W iron if you can, if you cant and have to use a Weller, once its hot enough 'pulse' the trigger just enough to maintain the temperature rather than hold it in. and work quickly, thats important. Make sure the bit and the wires are clean, and tin wires first. Practice on something if you can, anything, old TV, old PCB something like that. Then practice a bit more. Make sure the old solder on the pots is melted properly, sometimes it helps to rub the tip on old solder to get t started,. You will find old type 60/40 22swg solder easier to work with as well, plenty available on ebay. and dont try and add too much, 1/4" is enough for a good joint. Dont worry about wrapping wires around terminals, just stick em on, Then give em a tug when you have finished to make sure you got it right.

Copper Foil Tape on Ebay
I think this thread has very slowly gone off -topic, any other uses for Copper Foil (with conductive adhesive , obviously!)
Alarm tape, the sort you used to see on shop windows, under the wallpaper makes a good, invisible FM aerial. -
Two wires separated by half an inch won't form a short circuit. When a slug bridges the two wires it will find a small current flowing through it.
Exactly, try putting yer tongue on a 9V battery. Dunno how many ohms per inch a slug measures but it must be quite high with no salt content, so there wont be much current flowing and the slug wont stay there long. -
Shorting the batter with copper wire will run it out fairly quickly, need a resistor involved. Also its the joints between the copper pieces that need soldering, just in enough places its all connected, don't need to do whole seams.
No need if its just one sheet folded. -

BILL POSTERS replied to BandmasterPete's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
If you put coppr foil or tape uner the pots, it will be earthed by the pots surely, so theres no need to solder to it. As for slugs, I tried wire and it didnt work, even tried putting a slug inside a circle of it, but it still got out. This year I,ll be trying 2 wires half an inch apart with an aa battey connected between. anybody tried that one ? -
What's In Your Hardcase.....Strap Attached?
BILL POSTERS replied to spongebob's topic in General Discussion
Bass, lead, strap, tuner pedal, Mic, bar towel, spare strings. Everything else goes in my leads bag. I take the strap off and roll it up though, -
I have to confess I enjoyed that inside... but I would not want to be seen as a band who threatens physically hecklers, you know? I think it's best the odd witty retort or ignoring the guy.
Every situation is different. This guy had verbally insulted me personally while I was on stage. In that particular small town, not far from where I live, with that band and that crowd, to look weak would probably have resulted in more trouble later. All cos I refused to play bloody Alright Now.
ok so i've just come in from a covers gig which was pretty un eventful really good audience, nice tight band, etc.. however as i was playing on stage i noticed a group of young guys sat down beside the stage making a w**ker sign at the band (not sure if it was me or the band in general) at first i was a bit bemused has anyone encountered this kind of behaviour before? i mean fair enough i'm putting myself up on stage to be judged and they're entitled to their opinion of me or the band but seriously? in the end my solution was to drop in some tasty fills, enjoy myself more than before and casually remind them as i left the stage they by drinking they were paying my wages just wanted peoples thoughts really?
Did have something similar happen years ago. What I did was wait till we had a break between sets, then when the guy went to the toilet I followed him in walking briskly enough so that people noticed. Soon as he saw me, he started apologising, blaming it on the drink etc. so I just walked out with a smirk. People noticed I left the bog smiling, and he left looking sheepish. It was his works do, and much as I wanted to, battering him wouldnt have gone down well. But at least I felt I had saved face a little bit.
I think thats how mine started life but the previous owner decided he wanted a 'stack'. It's apparently played the Albert hall. Thankfully my EL34s aren't glowing as this would certainly be cause for big concern! Are these Cathode biased?
Yeah, you could buy them as kits, there was a 15W ( 2XEL84) and a 30W, based on Mullard designs, if you google Mullard 5-20 its pretty similar. Had one working with PL36 TV line output valves at one time, bloody lethal come to think of it, but I was young and could get them from work for free. -
I've had this Linear L30 Conchord for ten years and whilst it will never win any awards for SPL, it does sound sweet and it's been perfectly reliable including the vintage Goodmans speakers with the exception of a couple valve swaps.. It now has one Mazda and one Mullard EF86, a Sovtek ECC83, a no-name GZ34 and a pair of Ruby EL34Bs.. Will it compete with a group / drummer? Is it flexable tonally? No, not at all. Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to defend it as a 'good bass amp', it isn't but it certainly has vintage charm..
I was thinking of one of these... Probably much the same Mullard based design though. With the Anodes of the EL34s usually glowing cherry red. -
