1. Not surprised at that price. Bargain!!
2. Stagescape looks great- high quality that but nearly twice as much as the Mackie. Have you got one silddx?
3. start one yourself pal- loads of musicians out there. Go for a beer and discuss before you pick up your instrument- or theirs. sounds like you have a bit of experience so likely that you`ll be a ble to suss out the plonkers who cant play. I am extremely skilled at this.
4. Why should I be bothered that someone else does a gig for free? Will not affect me at the least- any band worth their salt will always charge ( ignoring the odd charity gig ) Bands that play for free will not be worth worrying about and will no doubt make us look very good indeed. For the original circuit this is different though, where from time to time you have to pay to play - definite benefits there though.
5. Oh and the reason the red ones are so hard to find is that they are the best ones. Truly a major difference between the two colours. Really important thing about these is they have to be set up right. I had to shim both of mine. Spent hours setting them up. Now they are amazing. Who needs to spend £000ss on vintage instruments? These look fantastic too.
6. I have two roadwork jazzes. One fiesta red and one sunburst. The fiesta Red one is the better bass but its so opinionated I bet I think the sunburst one is better soon enough. I have had loads of really expensive instruments over the years I still have a thumb nt 5 ( rrp £2500 ) and a low end 5 ( rrp. $3500 ) and these two stay in their cases whilst I play and gig with the roadworns. Amazing basses that will go down in history as the height of Mexican workmanship. But dear new but I picked both up for less than £600. Bargains of the century.
7. Would you take £120 cash for it pal?
8. Other benefit of this is that its tiny- 11 inches by 16
9. Yep pretty cool video- still dont understand it though. Unfortunately the Ipad is not included- £942 for the mixer only- bit of a waiting list for them- mine has been on order for 6 months.
10. I too spotted that and thought of Basschat. Who is the illusive bass player?
11. Got a fantastic Thumb NT 5 and a Low End Jazz 5 but as I have now reverted to 4 strings these are never played. May even consider selling them. I have a fantastic Roadworn Jazz in Fiesta Red which is the best Jazz I have played- amazing- so so good that I bought a Sunburst one but strangely enough they are quite different basses- the sunburst is great but the Fiesta Red one is amazing.
12. I learn them note for note, sometimes embellished a little ( or showing off ) - Brick House for example is slapped. Learning Cover songs properly sorts out the wheat from the chaff.
13.
I like fountain pens....
Yeah I have a Mont Blanc- great piece of kit but for a mixer- it sucks! But I think you are referring to the Snapshot of remembering the settings for various gigs. I can see that as we have so many residencies that because the Ipad remembers these setting, for future gigs just a signal check will be fine- therefore saving so much time and hassle. Getting to a gig an hour later? certainly will.
14. Its a Mackie 1608dl. Amazing piece of kit this. This is a wireless mixer that uses an Ipad for processing. It will mean that I can soundcheck the band out front and adjust all parameters with my Ipad so there is no tooing and frooing to the stage to adjust. Loads of effects, compression, really quality sound. Wireless works perfectly. I cannot imagine anything as revolutionary as this for your normal band. 16 channel inputs ( more than we need and there is 7 of us) . 6 Auxilliaries. This can use up to ten Ipads so each member of the band can sort their own monitors etc. We do four residencies so saving the mix as a snapshot is so useful. Really happy with it. Welcome to the future.
15. I once was in a band that used drums on tape. Our drummer left and we couldnt find another one so ( this was the 80s ) as I had my own studio we had a pal of mine come in ( real good drummer- later had massive success in a band as a singer ) and put down the tracks. Done- we had a drummer for that period where we had loads of gigs so could sort the gigs without panicking about a drummer. One night- might have been the first gig- on the encore " the sun aint gonna shine anymore"Walker bros-- the tape machine f**ked up. So I had to play drums and bass. Bum,bum bum- crack- bum,bum bum-crack......" loneliness- is a " It was a first for me and I still laugh about it now.
16. Good ones always will listen to the bands ideas of what they should sound like- really dislike anyone not being prepared to have an open mind. I think that is what got me so mad with this guy.
17. Yeah- agree with Silddx- whilst his tone is very defined I think it is a little scooped- bit more low mid and its there. A lot better than the normal muddy tone you hear though. Blame the soundmen methinks- was at the Garmisch festival with BMW Motorrad this year and at the after gig party there was a band playing and whilst their sound was powerful it was simply too bassy for the covers they were playing. On asking the soundman to boost the low mids and reduce the lows he just looked at me as though I was daft. Youngsters eh??
18. Loved it- thought the bassline was pretty good, just because there are no amazing runs at lightspeed, the song still grooved.
19.
Regarding the open not being a very good player... just get yourself 3 lessons from a good teacher and learn some basic theory. With that base knowledge song like this take about 5 minutes to learn. Then you realise how most rock/pop/blues all take about 5 minutes to learn! Saves loads and loads of time if you put some effort in up front.
+1 I remember the days when you had to use a record to work basslines out- now with Youtube and the internet most people dont need ears at all. Think I did this one for my first gig- think I was about 14 and had to learn 20 songs in a couple of weeks, and this one I had to sing too. Could probably do this in a day now. I still think it is great practice to learn these types of song note for note. It may be difficult at the start but do this regularly and it becomes easier and easier. Only if you are having dificulty should you refer to Youtube etc- Most Tab is terrible and hardly ever right.Or start taking lessons and your teacher should show you how to work something like this out. Giving you the tools for the job so to speak.
20. I have an LM2 and also a Hartke lh1000. I think both amps can be pretty clean (uncoloured ) but using the EQ etc can also be particularly coloured too. Its ok talking about these points in a studio environment ( Hartke too noisy for that )- but for Live use, once you add a cab and god forbid people in a strange sized room ( Venue ) - forget about uncoloured tone - sometimes its jsut a battle to get a good sound and to be heard above the band.
21. Bought a hartke 4x10 off Pablo. Great guy to deal with. Item exactly a described very very well packed.
22. VLE on full? Wont this scoop your tone in like a massive way. I use my LM2 more or less flat with just a little VLE ( as the cab is really quite middy.) No doubt will sound good at home but on a gig..........
