One more option would be to try looking around for a MIJ SR Premium, not the 700 or 800, but 900 or above from the 90's or 2000's. They seem to go for around £500 and it's the beloved SR shape (and neck) but with staggeringly good build quality, woods and tone. Definitely a league or two above the current 500 series. Pics might help. -
I have the ACS pro 17's. They fit superbly and are very comfortable. You can hear your backing vocals really well when wearing them. The negative is that they do cut quite a lot of treble. Certainly they are nowhere near a flat full-range cut. They also cut more than I would like. I may get a set of their 15 dB filters to replace the 17 dB ones.

I have bought several Mighty Mite necks and also, recently, a Jazz neck from cwgp2010 from Holland on ebay. The Mighty Mite necks are good but the cwgp neck I found was very impressive. Easily, easily as good as a good MIM Fender neck. Mine had inlay blocks that were very well done also. Highly recommended by me.
I'm very tempted. Do you have more info on the eq controls ? No strap buttons ? Cheers
Ah yes ... Dunlop flush mount straplocks included. They're great and leave nothing sticking out of the bass when the strap is detached. It will come with all the parts. THe EQ has 5 knobs. One volume, one passive tone (push/pull for active passive switching). ONe pickup blend knob, one concentric bass/treble knob and a final concentric knob with mids frequency and mids cut/boost. It's this one .... http://www.east-uk.com/index.php/bass/u-retro/u-retro-5-knob-deluxe.html

Sorry guys. This is now WITHDRAWN. I fully worked out the finances needed to build the Warmoth Jazzmaster that I wanted to make (about £700 needed) and I can't justify the extra expense after selling this at the moment as I'd still need another 200 quid or so. Ah well it'll just have to wait and be a project for the future. I reserve the right to change my mind again ! I'm surprised that I'm considering letting this one go, but I've got a yearning to build a Warmoth Jazzmaster with a Wenge neck, and the only way I could fund it is with the sale of this magnificent bass. It's a fairly well known bass on the forum, previously owned by Pinball and Evil Dead I believe. Also played by one or two others. It's a 1996 Fujigen-made Ibanez SR1300PM. So that makes it a Paduak and Mahogany sandwich body (Paduak on the outsides). Neck is Wenge and Bubinga laminate. The fretboard is a particularly beautifully figured piece of Wenge with abalone inlays. The first thing you notice when you pick this up and play it is how bl00dy light it is, yet how incredibly rigid. I'm convinced some sort of magic goes into making this neck. Surely it can't be that slim and yet be so rigid ! Every string is beautifully resonant and full. The action is low and it is truly lovely and incredibly easy to play. Extras on this bass are ..... - USA Bartolini PJ pickups. - John East U retro deluxe (so that includes the passive with a tone control option) - Hipshot detuner on the E string. It's not an immaculate bass and does have a few marks here and there, but is still in really nice, classy condition. The rear of the neck is smooth and immaculate though. No dings or marks there. This bass just oozes class and high Fujigen build quality. Would come with a quality hard case. £495 posted in mainland UK. A bit cheaper if you collect (nr Southampton) and a bit more if you live further away. No trades, no offers, sorry. Also, FYI, the cat (who was desperate to get in the shots) is not included in the sale. I use my MXR M87 bass compressor in a very similar way to the way you are hoping to use compression. I want it there in the background, but not-noticeable (until you turn it off, that is, and realise that it is actually doing nice things). The MXR is very transparent, very clean, and very quiet at those levels of compression. It is also less than half the size and weight of a COmpressore (which is also a very fine compressor I have to add). The MXR is capable of all sorts of different compression, including extreme effects, hard-limiting and very subtle too. My experience with it is that it definitely has a compressing effect before the LEDS start to light up (the more LED's lit indicating the level of compression being applied). So if you try it out, I would advise adjusting the "input" (which is basically the threshold) until you are only getting a few green LED's lit on your heaviest low notes. You don't want it to be going near or into the amber, or you will be over-compressing for my tastes. My advice is Release and Attack at noon. Ratio at 3:1. Input adjusted as above, and output adjusted to whatever output level you need to drive your other pedals and/or preamp. There are some great pedal compressors out there these days. My experience is that none of the really good ones is particularly cheap though.
Looks similar to the Swell Pedals .
Swell became Myco. Same chap, just changed the name. Mainly, I have read, because Googling for "Swell" brings up several billion hits. Googling "Myco" is rather more specific, although you will also discover a rather pleasant looking Japanese actress of that name .....

SOLD GK MB500 amp. About 6 months old from new (which I have to say is almost a record length of time for me to keep any amp !). In excellent condition. Only for sale as I have upgraded to another GK (the 1001RB). These amazingly small, light and excellent amps are just brilliant, and the difference between this and my new 1001RB is actually very small indeed. The MB, will actually stay completely clean significantly louder than the 1001RB. Some of GK's MB series amps have come out of the factory with a fair amount of background hiss, and I have encountered 2 MB units that were way too hissy for me. This one, however, is a good'un. With the EQ flat and the Master turned right up to max, there is still virtually no hiss from the speakers with this amp. It really is very, very quiet, until you start playing ! A couple of very minor marks but overall in excellent condition. The only thing of any note whatsoever (for complete openness) is that the mute button sometimes needs to be held just slightly to the right as you press it in, to activate or de-activate it. It has been like this from new and has not deteriorated in any way. It is still a completely unproblematic control to use. I have had no problems with the amp whatsoever. Please be assured that these amps are very loud indeed, very clean (if you want that), or fat if you use the "boost" control. The transients are very quick (i.e. the notes hit you very quickly) and, of course, they'll fit into your average gig bag pouch. £279 posted to you in mainland UK. Will come with original box and paperwork etc. No trades please.
Also, how big is this...info on the ground seems pretty slim. Thanks
The main body of the box of the pedal, excluding all switches and knobs is 14.2cm x 9.2cm x 4.7cm. And not really actively looking for trades, except a P/Ex maybe for an Ibanez SR505. However, you can always try me. I might be tempted !

SOLD Just purchased from BC's michinho. I had to give it a try and I believe it to probably be the only one in the UK. It is a pretty awesome pedal but I can't quite justify keeping it to replace my current COG arsenal and it is slightly more old school than my current SS setup. Anyway, it's a two channel 100% analogue valve-based bass overdrive. I have tried a lot of valve -based pedals and been underwhelmed by all of them. However, this thing really is a "big 'ole valve amp" in a little box. Creates a glorious sound and low noise too. A very impressive piece of machinery. Simple controls, two gains for the two channels, master tone and master volume. Footswitches for effect on/off and for switching between channel 1 and 2. Only a few months old, in perfect condition, with 12V AC adapter. £175 posted to you in the UK. details at ... http://www.mycopedals.com/ Heres are pics and some soundclips I have just done of the pedal. The first is mainly on both pickups of a PJ bass. First riff is the clean tone, then the pedal is switched on and the gain is simply increased for subsequent riffs. The bass is switched to the P pickup at 1:49 https://soundcloud.c...ridges/myco-3-a 2nd demo, similar to the first but all on the P pickup. Note how incredibly transparent the pedal is and also the complete lack of background noise - most noticeable right at the end, when on full gain ... the note cuts off and there is simply silence ! Effectively what Dave (above) has said. Slightly different tapers on the volume pots would account or it. PLUS ..... 250 to 500 watts isn't really that much of a difference in perceived volume. My question would be .....does the 500W amp continue to get louder at the same rate as the 25oW one as you turn the master volume up ? I would expect the 500W to "keep going" when the 250 Watter runs out of steam.

Also just bought a pedal from Mike. He packed it well, and sent it exactly when he said he would. An easy, easy deal. THanks Mike !
smallsound/bigsound make the TAFM by the way! It's my favourite fuzz but I'm not a huge fan of the gated mode since it maxes out the gain when engaged. Didn't think of the BBM Deluxe - does anyone know if the gate can be used to get abrupt staccato sounds, or is it more designed to reduce noise?
What I really meant to say is the Fuzzrocious Grey Stache ! I've been using it for months, you'd think I'd get it right ! To be honest, I think I've been referring to it as the "Fuzrrocious TAFM" for all that time ! Once I'd got it I just down to enjoying playing it and forgot all about thoughts of other fuzzes and researching them. Lol. What a pillock I am !

Fuzzrocious TAFM. Cuts through with a band like no other fuzz I have tried (and that's quite a few). The gate is great. Oh, for less money I also think the EHX muff deluxe is an excellent gated fuzz.
