These are wonderful basses. It's a "P-type" pickup but just over an inch nearer the bridge than a Fender P (or indeed the Thunder 1A, versions I and II). You also get extra frets and better high fret access with these than the version I's and II's. I hope you don't mind me adding info Dave but Just for info, an EMG 40 sized pickup will also fit in that cavity, with a reasonable amount of space around it, if anyone fancied tinkering with it. I also have a great Stingray Style Union Jack pickguard for one of these exact basses, which Bassdoc made up for me. It would look stunning on this black bass. I've now converted my bass to a PJ, so am not actually using the pickguard, and it could be available if anyone was interested. Dave, please let me know if you think I am butting in on your sales thread inappropriately, and I will remove this.

Lovely bass, and a great result for you ! -
SALE AGREED WITHDRAWN from here, as no interest. Now on Ebay - item number --181299483013 Just a few days here at this price, then it'll be off to ebay. As per title. Excellent condition. Matched pair for bridge and neck. These give superb big, gutsy, noiseless, single coil tone. Just not quite what I'm looking for (being rather a Precision pickup addict). £85 posted to your door in the UK. Will post abroad, but contact for costs. They say ...... "This pickup is a split-coil, hum-cancelling version of the Big Single. This pickup is similar to Carey's popular single-coil soapbar pickup in that it delivers a grindy, old-school muscular sound. However, unlike a "true" single coil design, it will never suffer from noise or 60 cycle hum. This soapbar was designed for 19mm string spacing and is perfect for the "Big Singles" fan who is particular about using a single coil pickup for live or studio work. This is a smoother more modern sounding pickup than the Big Single, with a little less top and more low mid content. These are a direct replacement for Bartolini BC, P2, P4 soapbar size pickups, and are also available for EMG 35/40/45 sized pickups." Here's the pics. I'm no expert on this, but even though many "Ventura's" were built at Matsumoku, I guess it's possible that a later cheaper range were built elsewhere. In my experience, Matsumoku-built basses do tend to have "Japan", "or "Matsumoku" written on them somewhere though.
-
Many Ventura basses were make at the Matsumoku factory in Japan, which will be high quality. Whether it's still high quality will depend on the abuse it has received in the meantime ! Look for a "made in Japan" on the neck plate (if it's bolt on). If it's there, I'd say the chances are very very high that it is a Matsumoku-made bass.
There you go Listen through decent headphones/speakers please! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WSL9jALcHNk Si
Nice one Si ! Much appreciated. I particularly liked the Demon on it's own right near the start. Is that a standard Demon ? I don't remember my old Demon King sounding quite like that.

The Wilkinson WBP (about £27 on ebay) is as good as anything out there IMO. And I'm very much looking for similar tones as the OP.

Yamaha TRBX504 is well worth a look. Great bass.
Now that's a fast turn-a-round matey! Sad it wasn't what you're after but glad you've worked out what you're after now The condition of the pedal is better than is being stated here, it's basically 'as new' barring the obvious velcro addition
Yup, I was able to give both fuzzes a thorough testing at a band practice last night and the TAFM just pipped the Pickle Pie to the post for what I need. And I don't like hanging around once I've made a decision. These Pickle Pie's are a wonderful pedal to be sure. -
SOLD Wren & Cuff pickle pie hella fuzz - B In good nick and working perfectly. I recently bought this and a Fuzzrocious Team Awesome fuzz Machine in the search for my perfect fuzz. And what I discovered is that they were both pretty superb (this is actually my second Pickle Pie). However, the TAFM is just a bit more perfect for me and what I'm looking for at the moment. So, anyway, one of them has to go, hence this Pickle Pie can be yours for £110 posted to your door in mainland UK. Still has the box and instructions. Velcro on the bottom. Controls are volume, saturation, shape (a tone control) and clean blend (on the side of the pedal).

Just for the record, I am absolutely loving my new NX2 212T. Reasonably portable and light. Beautifully balanced sound which responds very well to EQ. Very pleased I went for it.

SOLD Got this brand new from Thomann just yesterday. On a whim, I added it to my order, to get it over the free delivery borderline, as I'd not tried one before. It's not my thing really though. Much too "Ampegy" for me. No surprise really, but at least I can say I've tried one. So a brand new one (but obviously sans-warranty) for £19 posted to your door. All works perfectly. Low noise floor too. Lots of folks seem to love these, so worth a punt for someone surely ! It'll cost so much for me to return it to Germany, it's not worth my while, so someone here can get a good deal instead. Pic .....

Reverend Decision vs Fender P American Special
hamfist replied to Dennis1971's topic in Bass Guitars
For the life of me I cannot understand why people want to spend so much money on a Precision-based bass, when you can pick up a 1980's Westone Thunder 1 for about a £100. Add a decent pickup and you have Matsumoku-build quality, top tone woods, construction and stability, a lovely playable neck inbetween a P and a J and an investment that will only increase in value at this point. These basses are not just good for the money they are great basses, full stop. the resonance and tonal consistency across the neck in most of them is the equal of most very expensive new basses these days Don't underestimate the choice of woods and construction technique in a bass. It was generally done right, back in Japan in the 80's, except in the cheapest model lines. The only negatives are the weight (although not extremely heavy, they are not light basses) and the name on the headstock. And, yes, I'm sure there are one or two dogs out there but most of the Thunders out there are gems. Apologies for my slight lack of objectivity on this matter. -
I'd love to hear some good BDPG clips, esp on a P bass. There's very little decent in the way of soundclips out there in the public domain. It's weakness of Fuzzrocious as a business I think. Both of the Fuzzrocious pedals I have owned have been remarkable pedals though. They (he ?) certainly has great ears and knows pedal electronics.

Bought a pedal from Andy. As always, he was a true gent to deal with. I could not have asked for a better experience. Thanks mate !

Peavey T-40 wiring on basses that aren't Peavey T-40s
hamfist replied to mrdreadful's topic in Repairs and Technical
The RV4 I used to have had 4 conductor wiring on each pickup, so you should be OK for it. -
Bought another pedal from Graeme. Again a 100% perfect experience for me. Top chap !
I'm intrigued, are the purchase of this and the sale of your Demon King connected in any way!?... Al
Well yes and no. The DK is overall rather a higher gain pedal and rather more "modern". The KNightfall takes lower gain duties for me, and I'm getting a dedicated fuzz for the more extreme end of the gain spectrum. Anyway, as Matybigfro asked so nicely and I had a space this afternoon, here's a demo for you all. Please note that I am using a very high output EMG pickup and, hence, it can become almost a high gain pedal with that level of input signal. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e_wKkXFn9mI&feature=em-upload_owner

NOW SOLD 2002 Fujigen-made jade metallic Ibanez SR760. Serial # F0229940 Usual SR dimensions, 2 x soapbar pickups and a two band active EQ. Controls are vol, blend, bass and treble. All works 100% perfectly. No crackles or noises. Strung with a brand new set of 105-45 nickel roundwounds. This bass plays and sounds absolutely beautiful. The neck is typical high quality MIJ Ibanez. THe intonation is spot on, the action and relief is perfect (for me! ), The nut slots are cut just right too. Cosmetically it's pretty decent. The front is really good with only a couple of minor dings. There is one more major ding on the rear (behind the lower horn (pictured)). There is also some very superficial cracking of the lacquer on the rear of the body. It is absolutely 100% not structural and is only laquer cracks. Not easy to photograph, but you can see it in the pics. The rear of the neck is immaculate. No knocks at all. The fretwork is excellent and there is very minimal fret wear. Comes with a Hiscox lightflite case. A hell of a lot of bass for your money ! £159 posted within mainland UK. I am happy to ship abroad, just contact me for costs. If you want to collect from me near Southampton, I'll do it for £129 with no case, or £149 with the case. Pics .......
