1.
Can it be used for just a little bit of grit or is a better off as a "in-yer-face" distortion?
You could certainly use it for that but, IMO, there are better pedals for that. It'll go from very light grit up to full on fuzz.
2.
I love my ATK 310 so much that I'm selling my VM P-bass to fund another - providing I can find one...
Glad to see it is being appreciated with you Grant ! I think TRBboy's description of the necks are spot on ........ "I think the ATK's are great basses, provided you get on with a neck that feels like trying to wrap your hand round a 300 year old oak tree". They certainly do have sizeable necks !
3. Nice job Green Alsation. I think that looks awesome ! Has a LOAD of character ! You're right about the two pickups together sounding different to a PJ. I think the blended sound has less tendency to drop out of a mix than a JJ or a PJ.
4. Looking good ! You're so cruel though, just leaving us hanging on the edge of our seats ...... What colour is it going to be ??????
5.
Ok, cheers guys. Tonight i am playing in a pub so a totally different type of environment. My eq setting are low mid and high mid about 12 o'clock, and high about 2 o clock and low about 3 o clock. I am just playing around with it at the moment, i also had my tweeters on too. I will update you further after tonight's gig.
OK, you are still mid scooping a bit, which will be your enemy in trying to cut through. The MarkBass bass control is usually centred at 40Hz also, which is very low. You will be using up a huge amount of your amp's energy trying to reproduce these uber-lows. I'd literally use the amp flat, on all EQ, no filters (all fully anticlockwise). Maybe even have bass at about 11:00 and low mids at 1:00 to get more low "punch" rather than genuine lows. Hopefully your gig this evening will sort out your worries anyway.
6. David is new to BC but I can vouch that he is a top chap to deal with. Awesome amp too !
7. Just for your info and enjoyment ..... Control knobs are the standard vol, tone and drive. Footswitches from right to left are pedal on/off, gain/gate mod on/off, feedback mod on/off. The mini-toggle ..... well, not quite sure. It goes between two different modes. To the right it is very mid-forward and very in-yer-face. To the left is much more mid-scooped and bass-heavy (in a more "modern" style).
8. Sorry, withdrawn for now. Fuzzrocious Demon King pedal recently bought from Plunkrock of this forum, but just a bit too "devilish" for me. In superb condition, runs on the normal Boss-type PSU. Based on a Fulltone OCD pedal but with more bass, more low mids and more gain, and some Fuzzrocious magic. Extra footswitch to add Fuzzrocious' extra "boost and gate" mod. 3rd footswitch to bring in/out their feedback mod. This pedal is a beast. The demo vid is one of this actual pedal I did this afternoon ! Note the really low noise floor on this pedal, even at high gain without the gate/boost on. £130 posted to your door in mainland UK. I am happy to post overseas. £132 posted within the EU. 9. Bought a blender pedal from Harry. Pedal was in excellent condition, packed really well and sent quickly from the continent. Great chap to deal with !!
10.
That sounds awesome. Where did you manage to get it from?
Stringsdirect. £130
11. I just bought one of these on the strength of a magnificent soundclip on Talkbass by JohnK ... http://soundcloud.com/johnk_10/gainchanger I have to say the pedal really is absolutely magnificent. It's so transparent, simply adding OD to your base tone. No muddiness, yet no bass loss either. It's an absolute keeper for me. Just a heads-up for folks really, as it's not a pedal I'd heard about before.
12.
The Lord always smiles on Bass players....?
I'm sure that's in Hebrews somewhere !
13. So you're just DI'ing straight into the desk right ? With a decent soundman, I'd really hope for a decent sound out of a decent wedge . I guess the church has all that in place (and any church players here will know how unusual it is for a church to have a decent soundman !). I suspect there was compression and possibly EQ already set up on that channel for bass guitar. Just trying to explain it really. Were you also isolated fairly well from the other instruments (drums especially) ?, as that could enhance your perception of your own sound I guess. It sounds like you should find out what their signal chain is and try and replicate it for your own rig, if that is the "sound in your head" you have been looking for all along.
14. Another +1 for the Little Bastard. Almost untouchable on the current market for what it does at that price point.
15. In answer to your initial question .... Yes, a compressor could do what you are hoping to do. BUT ..... at the expense of losing a shedload of dynamics in the process. So, not really suitable in reality. As suggested, the only way is to twiddle and fiddle and try and get the same perceived volume between your sounds. I find the best way to do this is to play them along to some backing music. I, and I think most others, find it notoriously difficult to compare volumes in different tones if just played solo. However, if played against a backing track of any sort, it's much easier to balance the perceived volume of your different tones to the backing music.
16. I now have a custom Tarkin fuzz on order, with added mids and clean blend controls. The good news is that I will be producing a high audio quality demo video of it for all you eager beavers of fuzz lovedom once it arrives.
17.
The most important thing to remember about the fee was to help with the administration of the site, so ask yourselves what having access to this community is worth to you???
A hugely important point, seemingly forgotten by many.
18.
I have to agree, they should have put the double Ps in the p bass and kept the P bass neck profile. It's a great sounding bass, but would have been that much better IMO if they had kept the bodies the right way around.
Personally, I'm not too bothered about which body shape or neck profile they have. They key, key things for me is the pickup positioning, which has by far the biggest influence on tone.
19.
Anybody tried the dual-P Fender Blacktop Jazz basses?
Tried it and wasn't hugely impressed. The neck pickup is significantly nearer the neck than the standard P position also.
20.
I do not think you are right on this point. As far as I am aware with a pj if you turn the j pup off you are left with a pure precision sound - so the addition of a j pup at the bridge gives you the added sound option
100% correct. Many PJ's may not sound like a P when soloing the P pickup. but this is down to wood choices and other factors being different to a traditional P, not the inherent design of the pickup configuration.
21.
Bit O/T but does anyone have more info on the m-series basses, there was one reviewed in bassist mag back in the late 90's (99?) and I recall it was about a grand, blue and had a basslines mm pickup/circuit in it. Google (on my phone at least) hasn't given me any clue on a model number. Might be looking...
I searched extensively and could find almost nothing. I have the M-series posted in the OP of this thread and even it does not have a model number on it. All this makes me think that the M-series basses were all custom one-offs maybe ?
22. The easy way to have a one stomp between the two is to have each pedal in the loop of a dual loop pedal, something like this .... http://www.brightonion.co.uk/dual-ab-looper/ At least it's just one stomp to change between the two. As to your feedback issues, sorry I can't help you much, but I would suggest trying not going over unity gain with either of your pedals, so no spikes in gain, just changes in tone.
23. That's good to hear. I am mulling about getting a new fuzz at the mo. I have an EHX Bass Big Muff modded with clean blended master vol, and the standard BBM has a massive amount of bottom end (too much to be honest). What I really miss with the BBM is mids though. The TFR is certainly in the "potentials" mix at the moment. The COG Tarkin Fuzz has also peaked my interest, and I am investigating that also.
24. Flateric ....... Lovely bass indeed. What exactly are all the switching options ?
