1. History and tradition. Parametric controls are becoming much more popular (quite understandably) as the years go by. I wouldn't want to live without twin parametric mid controls any more. It's just such a powerful tone-shaping thing to have.
2. This'll sell in an instant if you offer courier delivery.
3. I'd really like one of these. Big positive is the narrower neck over the L-2000 for me. Seems a bit pricey just at the moment though. I suspect prices will drop to much the same as the L-2000 in a while.
4. Depends what your goals are I suppose. The Fuchs amp is a new one for me. I must say I don't like the way they deliberately try and mislead people in their blurb with their power output spec, which is obviously very accurate and specific. But it quotes power output as max power output rather than RMS output, which is accepted as the general standard to compare bass amps. Unless people are very on the ball, they will assume that 1000 Fuchs watts are the same as 1000 other manufacturer watts. It's not the same tack as TC electronic took to mislead buyers about power output, but to my mind it is misleading nonetheless.
5. I like using pieces of the grey water pipe insulation. It's cylindrical with a longitudinal split up the side. Hope you can understand what I mean. it's the perfect resistance for a pickup IMO.
6. Wounded Paw Black Sheep. unreplaceable.

neck widths
I'm not sure it's as much of an issue on bass, but a guitar with a chunky neck, always sounds better tonally than one with a super slim.
As a generalisation this has been my own personal experience too, although it's not actually something I've heard expressed before.

Also worthy of mentioning is that the SBMM sub ray4's have 38mm nut, so nice and slim. But a bit more chunky than a Jazz neck front to back. I quite like slim nut widths but I like a bit of depth on the neck. For anyone experimenting it's well worth trying a load of necks out in a shop trying to analyse your preference for both width and depth.

+1 to what has been said. Other basses with really slim necks include the Ibanez SR series. Also most Jazz basses (Fender, Squier and copies), also G&L SB-2. Also most Status basses (try an Energy if you can find a used one).
10. OK, guess not. I didn't think so. Googling it with the term "bass guitar" brings nothing. Talkbass searches give nothing. I just don't think anyone's tried it on bass yet. I'll give it a go and report back !
11. SOLD subject to collection. Excellent condition, hook velcro on the bottom. With box/paperwork etc. Works 100% perfectly. Low noise floor. Powered by std Boss-type PSU or 9V battery (neither is provided here). The best pedal ever made for adding "clank" ! Also excellent at other tones. See ....... 12. I keep coming back to look at this thread. It doesn't bode well for my bank balance !
13.
Glad we're all friends. Can someone please buy these now?
In 3 days these will definitely have a new owner. Ebay auction ends then and there are bids !
14. My pickup may, of course, not be the same as yours, Ou7shined. The pickup covers on mine are not firmly attached to the guts in any way, which may indicate that they are from a different source to yours ...... or may not, of course. The pickups you are referring to may be aftermarket copies of the Dimarzio orignal. I suspect we'll never know. These particular pickups I got from FunkShui, who got the bass from Rasta, who actually assembled the bass. You might get more info from him. I do feel for you writing that massive response and finding out it was almost all for nowt. I suspect that we've all done similar in the past. The usual scenario for me is to spend half and hour writing a post, press "post" and then the software crashes ... all lost.
15. now SOLD .. thanks Grant ! Ibanez ATK310 4 string bass in surf green. A real looker. Only a couple of weeks old. I have just decided that it isn't quite my "thing" though. Still in superb condition. A tiny bit of stray paint on the rear neck bolts and slight discolouration around one or two of the bolts from manufacture (if you look very hard at the pics you might just see something, although it is all very minimal). Also one slight manufacturing mark on the fretboard that in no way affects playing. Apart from that you will find no marks on it. Strings are Elixirs. Controls are volume and then active +/- controls for bass, mids and treble. The mini switch switches between full humbucker, single coil (plus noise-cancelling from phantom coil) and single coil with high freq cutoff. Very Stingray-like on certain settings. Action has been easily set med-low. I can't have it too low as I dig in very hard with my right hand. Neck is straight and true. Fretwork is decent and the truss rod works freely is either direction. Set up very nicely actually. A cracking bass that will also get you noticed ! My understanding is that this recently discontinued model is very similar to the current ATK200's, but with slightly different pickup switching and probably with slightly higher quality woods in it's construction. This colour is not available with the current model either, and everyone knows that surf green is the very best bass guitar colour. Collection from the Southampton area. I may well have materials to be able to courier it in a few days (for an extra £15), but right at the moment it's collection only. Here's a link to a clip of the bass's pure clean tones ....... 16. Another vote for the Ag over the MXR box from me. I found that the clarity between the octave and the "normal" note was so much greater on the Aguilar. The MXR tended to blend them together much more to my ears. As for tracking, I found the MXR tracked a tiny bit better, but this varies hugely from bass to bass anyway and was in much the same league between the pedals anyway. Hmmm. must get another octaver at some point.
17.
FWIW I've only ever seen 'Patent applied For' stickers on genuine 70s DiMarzios - never seen oriental copies carrying such a statement - it's a USA thing. If it's possible to remove one of the cream covers they would have 'DiMarzio' stamped on the inside as extra proof.
OK, well I've just had a look under the covers and moulded into the cream covers is "Dimarzio USA", so I'm still pretty confident that these are the real deal.
18.
No joke. They come from no name Jap imports. They litterally have no name on the headstock. They do resemble Dimarzio's though and probably are 70's or 80's vintage and may well have been produced under licence. However, the research I (and other more Japcrap savy folk) carried into them was inconclusive. Now here's the thing... I actually like these pups. In fact I have a couple in my own private stock (one still resides in it's original bass... which I paid £80 for and was possibly over the odds considering, but I liked the bass) . The rub is that one holds more definition than the other. So my guess is that wherever they were made, they didn't have consistency in mind during the manufacturing process. The upshot is that they have balls... but they aren't Dimarzio.
OK, fair enough. I'm no expert on these things. But how absolutely certain are you that these are the pickups you are describing, as you have not actually seen, held or played them ? There seem to be a lot of "ifs" and "buts" and "inconclusives" in your post. A PM might also have been a more tactful way to potentially sabotage my sale, which it might well do, as most bass-savvy buyers in the UK read here as well as ebay. At the moment, unless I have more compelling evidence, I will stick to my Dimarzio description as that is what they were sold to me as. If you can guide me to any discussion, pics etc online about the pickups you are describing I would be most interested to read it. cheers.
19.
As this is no longer for sale on here... it's not a Dimarzio. None the less they sound pretty nice.
Sorry, I don't understand, is this a joke, or ? I don't want to be over-serious but just don't want anyone to be misled about the pickup if they happen to be bidding on it on ebay. Do you know anything of the history of this particular pickup ?
20.
Interested in a trade for another Model P?
Sorry MoJo, see opening post - it's now on an ebay auction with bidders, so I'm commited to letting it run it's course now.
21. Anyone used this OD on bass here ? I just got a used one on ebay for a decent price. I was attracted by the fact that it is a JFET based pedal with "a full bass response". Seems pretty adjustable too. I had a Rothwell Love Squeeze a while back and it was a fantastic pedal, so I have lots of fuzzy nice feelings about the brand also. I'll report back on my thoughts once it's in my grimy hands. Here's the maker's blurb ..... 22.
Personally I blame the bass. Not owned at ATK but the local has a few, while built very and have the same punch and harmonic content is expect from a bass with a pickup in the sweet spot, the sound was ever so dead and lack luster.
I've never played another ATK, but this 310 is a cracker. The clean tone (the real test) is just superb. Don't know how it compares with all the other ATK models but it has a different pickup switching arrangement and options than the current ATK models I think.
23. Can't seem to really go wrong with bergantino cabs, or a BF super 12T it would seem. I wouldn't say the same about the smaller BF cabs as my perception is that many owners seem to move them on after finding they are not quite what they are looking for. You hardly ever see a S12T for sale though. As for amps, I'd say most valve amps are more "one trick ponies", and that you are describing your needs as being rather more varied. If you must have valve, you'll hardly hear a bad word said about the Mesa 400. The Orange AD200B also has many, many fans, seems fairly versatile and is readily available. Otherwise, there are lots of flavours of "great" in the SS and SS/hybrid world. My recommendations would include ..... TC Electronic RH750 Aguilar TH500/ AG500/DB751 Markbass TTE 500/ Little Mark tube 500 Genz Shuttle max 9.2 GK 700RB II / Fusion 550
24.
im not familiar with the wounded paw but I think any drive with a decent on board EQ should be useful for any bass.
THe Wounded Paw actually has superb EQ control, as it's a multi-band overdrive, with control of the drive in 3 different EQ bands. It also has a variable clean blend, so it's actually a hugely versatile pedal. I'm just not "feeling it" with the ATK though. It's the tonal quality of the OD that just doesn't seem to do it for me with the ATK bass.
