1. Need more info on the sounds you are looking for to give advice. But I would start with .... don't fixate on valve amps. You can get 98% of the way there with really lightweight stuff these days and at only 10% of the weight, and (probably) better reliability also (although I'm sure many would argue with that last point as a generalisation).
2. Great basses, but the L series tributes have really wide (1.75") necks. That may be an issue for some.
3. Were it 4 string I'd be sorely tempted ! Miss my old 44-01, and if this sounds better than the std, it should be awesome.
4. Now that I have a new style of bass, I clearly need to go back and try out all the drive pedals I have played and rejected in the past on P's and J's (maybe 30 drive pedals !) with this new bass. This is harder than I thought. Hope I'm lucky early on in my search !
5. RIght, I'll come straight out with it, I love Precisions, and love how my Wounded Paw Black Sheep sounds with P's. IMO, the Black Sheep's OD is just perfect for a P bass. Pretty damn good with a Jazz, both pickups, too. However, when I play my new Ibanez ATK310 (Stingray-type thing) the Black Sheep sounds extremely mediocre. Whatever I do with it, however I EQ the amp (and with my RH450 I have and almost infinite amount of EQ options), I cannot get a sound I like. So I have this lovely Ibanez which sounds absolutely gorgeous clean but I can't make even a half decent driven tone with it, using the equipment at my disposal. Has anyone noticed how some OD's sound incredible with one type of bass and yet are pants with another. Lastly, I would like some suggestions for an OD which gels beautifully with MM Stingray-type basses.
6.
MB1. Pics without headstock shots/truss rod cover shots Will enhance your chance of a sale. BUMP!
+1
7. A number of interested parties for this bass, but no-one wanting to commit as yet. So still lurking with this one !
8. G&L SB-2. CLassy, individual, and Leo's best basses yet. I'll also say that the Ed Friedland review of the MTD's is quite impressive. If you like fivers the B string on that P replica is massive. Better than any MIM Fenders I'd guess.
9. This confirms my policy for me. I never use their insurance, as there are so many exclusions to payouts and that they will wriggle and squirm their way out of a claim however they can, so the money you pay can be absolutely worthless. I must have saved literally thousands this way as I guess I must have sent at least a hundred guitars/basses/amps/cabs with couriers over the years. I take responsibility for packing the item bomb-proof myself. If there is damage I will cover it myself. However I have never had an item I have sent damaged by a courier. I will continue using them, as it opens up the whole of the UK and Europe to me as a market to sell gear. But I will also continue to pack items to withstand very heavy handling. It can be done.
10. Martin is an absolute gentleman. He sacrificially stepped back from a purchase, even though he still wanted the item, merely because he knew it would be for my benefit (as he knew I had someone else who wanted to buy the same item, but only if it was part of a set). He had no need to do this as I had given him first refusal on the item, and would have stuck to the deal had he wanted it. So a big thank you from me. A true gent.
11.
TC electronic heads seem to be popular but seem a bit HiFi and high tech to me.
The TC heads are anything but Hi-fi, and are actually some of the best SS "tubeamp-sounding" small heads out there. I would strongly advise the RH heads over the classics though, for the main point of being able to choose all your EQ frequenciy points on the RH's. This feature gives you a HUGE flexibility in tone. The TC amps are small, but are still very solidly built. Due to this they so weigh a fair bit more than many of the lighter offerings. But it's all relative I guess. Can hardly call a 4.5kg head (RH450) a heavyweight. Due to it's compactness it actually feels a lot lighter in use. If I sound like a TC fanboy, it's because I probably am. I have been blown away by the RH450 recently, and I have owned a LOT of amps.
12.
Would you budge on price at all?
Make him an offer, then you'll find out !
13. Good luck tracing it Marcus. I suspect many of us have one or two similar basses that we regret moving on. Personally, I have a lovely surf green Status Energy I sold last year in my mind. Can't for the life of me understand why I sold it. It was a cracker that, in the same words that you used, "played itself" in my hands.
14. bump for awesome and light cabs !

16. The best drive pedal I have ever used to help with some clank is the Ashdown Lomenzo Hyperdrive, which can simply blend in some driven upper mids to your bass tone. Clank Central !
17.
...and the search continues for your sound matey...
Ditto ! lol
18. Now SOLD 2 x Baer ML112 cabs. Just a few months old. Pretty immaculate. Includes the proper Roqsolid covers. Any dirty tones with these cabs are simply immense. The mid-drivers provide punch unlike any other cab. Drive and distortion is able to be so easily adjusted so that the top end is very present and "heavy" but not harsh at all. However, that is what they do very well. What they don't have is quite enough sparkle for me for cleaner, more hi-fi type tones. I suppose I've realised that I'm wanting cabs which are a bit more versatile to be honest. Bit more a of a jack of all trades rather than the specialist, which is the ML112. Loud, light, cool, awesome. Buy them, you know you want to ! I suspect that one of these with a BF compact would make a pretty incredible rig also. Full details here ...... http://www.baeramps....ss-cabinet.html I would split them and the price is £460 each, delivered in mainland UK, or £900 for the pair. If you are able to collect from the Southampton area it would be £440 each, or £860 for the pair. Sorry no trades. 20. These'll be a good buy for someone !!
21. Still available. plus small price drop. Lots of interest, but no-one quite ready to lay down the cash yet !
22.
Nice Discus by the way
Thanks, but (sit down for this) it's actually a severum (to everyone else, we're talking about the fish in my avatar). The most colourful sev I've ever had (or seen for that matter). He's living elsewhere now, as he was a grumpy bugger !
23.
Hey Hamfist, I'm in Mid Sussex and I have a Super12T - although I don't really have anywhere you can try it in anger, and I'm not interested in your Baer cabs either. But if you don't get a better offer send me a PM
Thanks for your offer. But in the end it seems like I've made a decision to go with the TC Electronics own RS cabs now though. Maybe I'd have taken you up on it yesterday, but my mind is set now !
