Anyone got any comments about the ESP LTD Vintage 204?
42mm nut
thats a lot of bass for the money, a great deal, well found.
It is an awesome deal. I would have bought it myself had it been the black one. I got a black one, again from Germany, but it was significantly more than Euroguitar are doing the white ones for.

Here is a brand new SB2, with warranty for £303 delivered to your door. http://en.euroguitar.com/bass/gl/tribute/sb2-touche-palissandre/149024.html

You need to give us a bit more of an idea of what types of tone you are looking for. maybe even with some youtube examples ? Is weight a big issue ?, a medium issue, or a non-issue etc
-
The front of the pedal shows the image of the PSU connection, showing it needs a centre negative supply, JUST LIKE a Boss pedal. So shouldn't need any adaptor. Hmmm, although don't take my word as gospel. Even though it needs a centre negative supply, if the ground is positive, you still might need the positive ground adaptor. Wait till someone else with more knowledge answers Further reading of the Diago site leads me to think that powering this (positive ground) pedal ON ITS OWN with a boss type PSU would be fine. The problems come if you try powering the Muff and other "negative ground" pedals off one PSU via a daisy chain arrangement.

Oh gentlemen, you have entered into this (almost) pointless subjective thread in superb spirit. Hurrah and bravo !!! Some lovely cabs mentioned too.
-
OK, there's a concurrently running best amp ever thread. So why not an equally subjective and argumentative best cab thread ? I was very interested that by the 3rd page of the other thread, despite many folks mentioning cabs, no one had mentioned any of the uber light, uber high excursion cone, uber expensive cabs. Barefaced anyone ? So, money, weight, roadies, storage ... all no issue. What's the best evaaaaar cab, for playing a variety of amps with, and a variety of styles ??
Has anyone got the newish 12 Band Tonal Emphisis Ashdown? If it has more "new string" sound than my MAG 600 I am interested. Is it all solid state? How about the Little Bastard 550 with 2 valve preamp? Aren't these amps less wooly?
The dual tube Spyder 550 is anything but woolly. It is one of the cleanest, clearest amps I have ever played ...... sort of the anti-thesis of the ABM amps. Oh, and sorry for not having anything to say about any of the 3 amps you asked about. Lol ! Just trying to make a point that Ashdown do make some very different amps.
I don't even know why I have the phobia, I've had it all my life! It's just being inside one that sets me off... sweating, nausea, and anxiety, followed by vomiting and sometimes fainting if I don't leave right away. Come to think of it, the same thing happened when I did a school nativity play! Maybe it means I'm the antichrist??
You could ease yourself in by going to a church that meets in a school hall ! THen work your way up. You'll be able to get into a cathedral by the end of the year ! On another note, anybody looking for new, progressive, slightly different Christian music could take a listen to Gungor. Top. top quality and a real heart for worship. A bit different too.
Interesting. Do you know the weight of one of these?
Can't tell you an accurate, exact weight, but lighter than an "average" bass for sure.
They can. The Classic Vibe P I bought a few weeks back is perfect and I cannot find a single fault with it. I guess what you are meaning is why can't they do it 100% of the time but there is a chance that the G&L you have is a good one just as the Classic Vibe I have is a good one?
Very true, and of course one person's experience is never incontrovertable proof of anything. However, hearsay on the "web" is that the tribute series generally are very well made and only a very small % fall through the "quality gap". IME there hardly seems any quality control at the Mexican Fender factory at all. In fact, if anything, I'd say the better Squiers are better made than the Mexican Fenders.

Hopefully this is the final instalment of my search for an intermediate priced P bass with a J-type neck. I have played a load of MIM Fenders (including several of the expensive deluxe P's) and the cheaper Squiers over the last few weeks. Also one MIA P bass. (I didn't play more MIA's simply because they were generally out of my price range). Each one I have been disappointed with. Many of them sounded pretty good, but the quality control and build quality on these things is simply awful. Not one could I get a decent action on, even after a decent attack with Allen Keys. I was starting to lose a bit of hope to be honest. Anyway, I just received one of these G&L SB2 tributes , bought from Germany where they are way cheaper, yesterday, and wow !!! Even had a band practice yesterday to give it a proper hiding. This thing is simply exactly what I have been wanting. A proper P bass tone, and yes it also has that J pickup for some tonal variety, with decent build quality. A good action. Nothing fancy, just does what I want. I can't overdo saying how impressed I am with the build quality of this Indonesian instrument. The nut is cut to perfection. The neck and action are as good as my CIJ Fender Jazz, and that's good. The high mass bridge is a solid looking thing of functional beauty. The neck/pocket joint seems tight and snug. The metallic black finish is smooth and even. If I'm being picky, the fret edges are not sanded to perfection and are not as smooth as many more expensive basses, but they are not in a state that I would bother doing anything to them. I'd say the build qualiy is roughly Lakland Skyline level. Why can't Fender build basses like this, simple, straightforward, good quality control. Really don't think I'm even going to consider buying Fender in the future. Oh, and the P bass tone on this SB2 is a cracker ! With the band, I wasn't loud and overbearing but every note was defined. Great pickups. Blending in the bridge pickup seems to work in a much smoother way than every other Jazz or PJ I've played. The bridge pickup on it's own is a bit weak and lacking in balls, but it works really well in a blend situation. So, this bass gets a 10/10 from me for anyone wanting a reasonably priced P bass with a J neck. I'm done with basses for now. Just got to sort out my pedals. Hmmmmmm. I got one of these Moen EQ/DI pedals recently, and I am very impressed. I recently tried a WMD parametric EQ pedal, which was excellent, but I just couldn't justify spending £150 on an EQ. SO anyway I got one of these to try out. Very useable fixed frequency bass and treble controls, with an excellent parametric mid control. Good DI with speaker emulation and headphones out. All for about £50. Low noise floor. Does what is says on the tin. thoroughly recommended. Mine's staying.
+1 If the bass has a particularly hot (high output) pickup, then using the active input basically just attenuates the signal a bit and makes the preamp stage a bit more controlable.
+1. Some passive basses can have very high output. And conversely some active basses have a low output.

Who are the most reliable large online bass dealers ??
hamfist replied to hamfist's topic in General Discussion
Yes, yes we all know about the BC marketplace, and I use it regularly. But thats no good if you want something new, or with a warranty, or a special particular something which is just too rare to find used. -
Wow, so much good advice in this thread. Thank you so much guys !!!!!!

GAK has always looked after me well. Always seem to get a properly boxed, genuinely brand new instrument with them. Soundslive also. Noticeable negatives for PMT & Thomann from me though. What are your experiences.
-
Sadly I'm not surprised by the apparently huge inconsistency in what people receive with their MIM Fenders. Not Fender's fault. It's just a pity the modern electrical musical instrument trade has attracted so many crap dealers. If you bought a violin of any price, I'll bet no traditional musical instrument shop would try and rip you off quite in the same way as most of the household name big dealers that we deal with.
-
OK, so roughly how tight ? Absolutely as tight as I can go, by hand with a smallish screwdriver, or significantly less than that ?
-
So what should a brand new MIM Fender bass actually come with these days ? Just received one (which is actually faulty and will go back) in a non-Fender branded gigbag, no Fender box, no tools, no manual. Pretty shoddy for a more than £500 bass. I'm pretty sure the shop are pulling a slighly fast one on me, putting out a shop demo as a new one.

Have to say the Two Door CInema bass tone on Tourist History (first album) instantly struck me as superb. Best I've heard for a while. I hate too much mushy bass. Personally, I like to hear the bass, and which note it's playing, rather than feel it. Although obviously I do have limits on how middly or trebly. It can definitely be overdone. COnversely to the OP, I feel the current trend in most popular music is actually to have too much low/sub bass and too little mids in the bass tone (whether it be a bass guitar or a synth). THis is much more apparent at gigs than on recorded music.

I am in the process of possibly buying a bolt on bass from someone overseas. They are offering to send the bass in a state with the neck taken off from the body, as the shipping will be easier, cheaper and safer for them as the bass does not come with a hardcase. I am somewhat nervous about this as I would worry about not fitting the neck back on properly. Is it an idiot-proof procedure, just a few screws ? Is the torque on the screws critical ? I wouldn't want to strip the thread in the wood. Would appreciate your thoughts. Electronics I'm pretty good at but this aspect of guitars would be new to me.
