Just found this excellent website where you can test your high frequency hearing. [url="http://www.noiseaddicts.com/2009/03/can-you-hear-this-hearing-test/"]http://www.noiseaddi...s-hearing-test/[/url] I didn't think I had much high frequency hearing loss, but it seems I can't hear much above 14KHz I'm 46 yrs old with almost 30 years gigging behind me which has, I guess, done it's work. My 16 yr old daughter can hear the 20KHz. Hope it stays that way. She, hopefully, understands the importance of looking after your ears. Check yours out and post the results in the poll !

I'd strike Markbass amps off your list straight away. THey are generally clean and, IMO, the EQ centres etc just don't work well for a rock-based style. (no experience of the Rocker though) I do have a hidden agenda, but the types of sounds you are describing sound very "Ashdown"y to me. The ABM's have one of the better valve pre's, and it is nicely blendable with the SS pre. Not class D, but still not particularly heavy ... an easy one hand carry up a flight of stairs. The GK "sound" also sounds a bit scooped and "modern" for what you seem to be describing that you want. Also, strike off the Genz Shuttles. They are a rather "thin" sounding amp, very much for those wanting a very full range, modern tone. The GB STreamliners are very different (I have one) with a much thicker tone. Personally, I don't like the grit from them though, which might be a deal-breaker for you (I use pedals for grit). They have oodles of "tubey" grunt and low end, but not a load of top end brightness, which may be an issue for you. THe TC amps I have no experience of. As for cabs, if you are looking for lightweight and loud, then Barefaced would seem to be the way to go, unless a good SHroeder becomes available at the right price, which might also be well worth considering. SOunds like you are going to have some fun deciding what to get !!

I wonder how many of those rubbishing the experience of using a really big cab have actually owned and gigged one. I have owned and gigged quality 4x10's (SWR and Schroeder). Yet these do not come close to the experience of gigging with my new 8x10.

Dave, Have to agree with you on the general principles. Higher wattage amps,in general, simply seem to have more punch and authority, even at lower volume (all IME and IMO). The transients will simply be more "instant". I also love big and, even more importantly, tall cab stacks. Can't abide all my mids and highs being pumped into my knees and naughty bits. THere's a richness than a big cab full of 10" drivers in just has.

No issues at all with the speakon connectors on my EVO III (which incidently is also for sale). As for the compressor, I'm not a big fan of the onboard Ashdown job. The amp itself is a cracker though ! I think it all comes down to whether you're happy getting an older amp. If so, then an EVO II should do nicely. If you want something newer for your pennies, then it'll obviously have to be an EVO III.

A "fuller" sound, with a lot more of your highs and mids intact. A very pleasurable experience !

I'm pretty sure he said it was the last one in Europe. And it weights 130 lbs ! Heavy, but not too bad to push around on it's wheels. Thankfully I have both a vehicle and a house with ramps up into them. If that wasn't the case there's no way I'd own this cab. Strange you mentioned cats. We have 3 cats and all 3 instantly shot inside the cab to check out the interior within seconds of seeing it. In fact, I have to keep the cab covered up when I'm not playing it. Not only is it a huge potential cat sleeping zone inside, but it is a 50x24"x20" cat scratching post also ! (well it would be if I let them near it).

Got around to taking a pic at last ! Genz Benz Streamliner 900 & Genz Benz 810-XB3 Early tests indicate that they match together really nicely. The XB3 certainly seems to be able to handle the copious bass output of the Streamliner, as the cab has such a "solid but tight bottom" (sorry for the double-entendre but I couldn't think of a better description). Gigged the cab (different amp) last sat - incredible cab. Can't wait to give the full Genz rig a proper outing ! Currently, it's the hottest living room rig in the neighbourhood ! Got to wait until 2 weeks tomorrow to unleash it on the public though. [attachment=107671:Genz rig a.jpg]
