Check the label of the thinners & steer clear of it if it contains xylene. It'll work, but is heinous stuff & can make the O rings in your gun swell up. 'Proper' cellulose thinners are usually based around acetone & toluene.

Have a hunt in your local car spares shop for 'Knifing Stopper'. A few thin coats of that followed up by some wet sanding ought to level everything out. Another good filler is 'Miliput' - either a model/hobby shop or Ebay. I've yet to find something it won't stick to, & it flats out beautifully. It can also be worked & smoothed with a wet spatula/putty knife before it starts curing which saves a bit of sanding. Sets rock hard in about 4 hours. Pete.

Did you have any trouble hearing yourself? I've had my left hand lock up once on a sit-in due to that. For some inexplicable reason instinct told me that pressing the strings [i]really[/i] hard would make them louder... had a forearm like an iron bar for half an hour afterwards.

As to the weight, a lot of it rests in the hardware; If you take off the pickups & that mahoosive die-cast bridge it knocks a significant amount off. Another factor is that gorgeous cut of Ash that makes up the body; my SB-900 has a boring grain but the growth rings are almost ruler straight and only a couple of mm apart - slow grown timber usually has a higher density - same goes for the maple in the neck. Quality with a capital Q.

Front page is still bit borked for me - no titles so I can't get access to any sub-forums, have a screengrab: Firefox 16.0.2. Cleared the cache, flushed DNS, updated Quicktime & ran CCleaner... nada. Same result viewed in IE8. View new posts works fine though. P.
