1.
Don't expect many to like this! This band was formed by a group of musicians who regularly played clubs in different bands doing original material. We all thought the state of mainstream pop music was a joke and we also found the club scene a joke. All the bands taking themselves too seriously and many putting style over substance. so we decided to lampoon this with a side project where we all wore ridiculous outfits and wrote ridiculous tunes with ridiculous subject matter. This is the only one we have a video for. If you do like it you can check out other tunes at Myspace/bandofgold08. Opinions will be good even if you think its terrible, Cos we don't take it seriously but bizarrely we are starting to get a following!
Interesssteeeng... and quite sweary... Puts me in mind of some of Joel Veitch's stuff... Hitting Pigs With Hammers Van Full Of Anvils and this rather catchy combination of Fact and Science:
 2. I'm in for the usual tenner.
 3.
I'm sure bitumen will remain sticky for literally years, and will soften under stage lights.
Pretty sure you're right here. I'm also not sure that any "conventional" paint (i.e. oil-based) will stick to vinyl in the first place. Something with a nasty toxic solvent like Xylene ought to work though. Hammerite?
 4.
Could it possibly be a TSB-550 though? They did have a thru-neck rather than bolt on, and didn't come in the solid black finish, but who knows with Aria... Aria Steve
Don't think so. I've got a TSB-400 & the horn tips are much more rounded than the alleged SB-600. Also, the TSB headstock is labelled "Thor Sound" in embarassingly large text, whereas our mystery item seems to have the "LAB" paragraph. It puts me in mind of an RSB Special-1, but the neck & headstock are wrong for that. I reckon it's an SB-Specificationsliabletochangewithoutnotice.
 5.
SB600. If they didn't say, I wouldn't have known it was in the SB range. Colour scheme (poss non-original) and different pickup from the others. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Aria-Pro-II-SB-600-B...=item2a0586ab62
Bizarre! It could be a 600 - the early run did feature a bolt-on neck, but according to "popular wisdom" this became a set neck in 1981 - & this seems to be an '82. Catalogue scans & various photos don't show the bevel & also seem to have the 16-pole fully-enclosed Humbucker. The "mystery" example does have the ser/par (or possibly coil tap) switch though. I dunno if it's just me, but it looks as though it's got the wider bridge. Definately an oddball, I reckon it's absolutely genuine - but the jury's out on the model. Good price at the moment. Pete.
 6. Either/Or for me.
 7.
In all honesty it's not really in great condition, but a lot of people like relics!!
You do know that this only applies to Fenders, don't you?
 8.
I do, sir. It's a 1984 RSB Deluxe II, which was pretty much my only gigging bass from when I bought it (new) until I retired it in 2000 due to an upsettingly twisted neck. I have a (scabby but straight) replacement neck for it from a mid-80s RSB Straycat - I was going to fill the dents & give it a matching refin but I'm sorely tempted to just bung it on & take it out as it is - I miss it! Anyway mine differs from Bloodaxe's by having a P/J type layout (not a P pup - a similar soapbar with exposed poles in P format) and in having a 22-fret neck rather than 24. The controls are stacked V/T and phase switching for each pup. There was also an RSB Deluxe I, with a single pickup, but these don't seem at all common. Jon.
The 5-string is stacked VT & Ser/Par for each p/up too. I have most of an RSB Special I... just needs a p/up. Pete.
 9.
Just wondering how do you find it to play. Do you reckon its a good bass. I know nothing about them.
Very comfortable, good ergonomics, fast neck (probably nearer a Jazz than a P). They're not as well made as the SB series (plain neck instead of laminated), but still generally very good IMO. The pickups tend to be quite middly - which ought to suit a fretless - but may not be to everybody's taste. Dare I ask what colour & how much?
 10.
Looking for a little info on the Aria pro 2 RSB deluxe from mid-eighties. I am looking at a fretless one and interested in whatever info anyone has on them.
I've got a 1984 pretty stock RSB Deluxe-5... anything specific you want to know? I think Bassassin has a 4-string example. Pete.

If it's too wide, try one of these

 14. The downside to having an external site for this, is that it will lay itself open to colonisation by Guitarists... and the dreaded spawn thereof that is The Guitard. If a separate non-bass Sub-Forum were nailed inconspicuously somewhere, at least we'd know all the weirdos there were fundamentally sound.
 15. Arse-Bilge of the highest order. Couldn't organise a Bacchanal in a Vintners. Rubbish. Don't like them at all. AN HOUR to get from Waterloo to Guildford. Stopped once at Woking. Pathetic. Bring back BR, I say.
 16. Straight-up, no-messing around (unlike South West Trains today!). Hurrah for dodgy deals in station carparks! Buy & Sell with confidence. Pete.
 17.
Hi, I have just started playing (about 6 weeks) and am lucky enough to have a mate who is an absolute diva on the guitar ('78 Standard American Strat and Fender Bassman amp amongst a lot of others) and he has "shown me around" my bass (Ibanez Jet King in Sunburst) and my amp (Marshall B65) and we are jamming along quite nicely. Green Onions, Hit the Road Jack, Cocaine and some improvised slow blues in E being our staple at the moment. He is tabbing more stuff for me but I wanted to lighten his load by simply going to the bass tab sites on the net. However, when I took a couple to him he explained that they were totally wrong in most cases. Is there a really decent hot bass tab site out there that someone could reccomend? We are mainly blues based, as can be seen from the above, so if there is a specific blues tab site thet would be great!!! He is in the process of tabbing Steve Earles "My old friend the blues" at the moment so we do include Country Blues (Lightning Hopkins, Townes Van Zandt, Guy Clark & etc) Any tips, tricks, tab sites etc gratefully accepted by this newbie!!!!! Thanks in advance, Amishboy
Welcome Aboard, Don't know of any blues-specific tab sites -I use 911 Tabs when I need one. "Need" is the word here I feel... I regard tabs as a "get out of jail card" for when you've got to nail somthing awkward at short notice, or you really can't figure out what is going on. Ears First then tabs if you're stuck. Also, a lot of tabs appear to be written by non-Bassists who seem to have some very odd ideas about fingering. AlsoAlso... Blues is a very flexible genre. It doesn't have that many "set" bass lines, but does have a bucketload of little licks & phrases that you can nail together to join the dots your way. Ears are better for this, trust me. Listen to loads of it, you'll find yourself picking up little bits here & there and your vocabulary will grow. Some crucial/essential albums... John Mayall's Bluesbreakers - "Bluesbreakers" (1966) & "A Hard Road" (1967) - Eric Clapton's finest 40 minutes on the first & Peter Green on the second, John McVie on bass duties. The Graham Bond Organisation - "The Sound of '66" & "There's A Bond Between Us" - Jack Bruce & Ginger Baker. Atlantic Rhythm & Blues 1947-1974, Vol. 6: 1965-1967 - Part of an 8 CD set, this one has all the usual suspects including Mustang Sally, In the Midnight Hour, Knock on Wood etc etc. Mostly from the Stax studios - so that'll be Duck Dunn covered then. The Beatles. Yes! They're what got me into music first off, specifically this early cut: The Stones too, of course. Pete.
 18. Good Lord! The Percy! I wonder if I'm still barred? The Landlord... did he hail from the Emerald Isle perchance?
 19.
I don't know the various Aria models, but surely this is a bargain! Fretless bass somewhere in the Aria Pro II bass family, with hard case, for £250!!!! http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Aria-Pro-ii-fretless...=item3a5873d68e Surely someone wants that!?!?!
SB-600 or 700. New knobs, replacement bridge & pickup for some odd reason. Very good BIN price - That won't hang around long!
 20.
That's the 3rd time that SB1000 has been listed on ebay over the last month... the padouk red ones just don't seem to get snapped up as quick! ..and cheers Annoying Twit!
Not surprising given the approaching-top-end price and the bit which says "actives need slight attention" with no indication of what's wrong with them. It might just be a dodgy switch, or a dry joint, or a duff pot. It also might be the beginnings of the mystery fault that fries the pickup leaving you with a £100 repair bill & a non-stock example. Caveat Emptor at work I feel. Pete.
 21.
oh I took a pic of the Kramer, but can't seem to upload. Does it have to go to an external site? Flickr/photobucket etc? Got a gig to go to- I'll try again later. The Kramer is a Stagemaster stansard in (now very off-)white. Has had Reflex Red-Dot pickups added by previous owner (a mate) which are a drastic improvement over the originals. I've had it for 20 odd years.
Greetings from an ex-Tauntonian... I'm rather intrigued by this beastie's past. A mate of mine used to own one & they're not exactly ten-a-penny. The dates might just fit too. Does the name Chris Foden ring any bells? You should be able to attach pics drec'ly - when you're posting a new message, just below the message window is a blue box that runs full-width. To the right of this ar a couple of buttons that say "Browse" & "UPLOAD". I've never used it myself (Photobucket for me), but let's see... ... Ahhh... It does work, but the attachment doen't show "in line" in the message body when you're editing (unlike the tags you'd use for linking to Photobucket) nor does it show when you hit "preview post" - you have to wait until you commit to the post before you see it. Pete.
Tempted.
Two points that may affect... The body has a very small edge round-over. If you only play fingerstyle this won't be a problem (provided you use the floating thumb as there's nowhere comfy to rest it against), but if'n you're inclined towards a pick it can be rather uncomfortable as I found the top edge dug into my forearm something rotten. YMMV natch. The string spacing is very tight, almost as though it's a 4-string neck with an extra string shoehorned in. OK... 3 points... These usually have a 3rd Fret Scarf joint too. The example I had (passive 2 x J, VVT) had a lovely growly tone, I just couldn't get on with the ergonomics. Pete.
 23.
Back when I used to play the guitar a bassist mate had an Aria Pro II. I've seen a few for sale recently, can someone give me a brief rundown as it's one of the few makes that I'm absolutely clueless about. Just seen this locally for £85:
That looks like a Korean-built Magna Series built sometime after 1987, probably '90s. Nothing intrinsically wrong with them, but it's essentially a bog-standard Fenderesque P/J. £85 with a case doesn't sound extortionate, worth a haggle though. I used to have a 5-string version & while it sounded OK, & was a good player it was an ergonomic mess compared to the "real thing". The choicest examples (IMO) are the SB range built between 1979 & 1987 in Japan. Have a look here: http://www.prog.rockers.co.uk/aria.htm for a seriously GAS-inducing selection, and also have a nose around the Matsumoku Forum for a fair bit of good info, and here for catalogue scans. Pete.
