1.
... but the Korean Pro Series ones are about half that.
Oh no, I wish I hadn't see that ... now it might be necessary for me to order one of those in black, and five-string. Anyone know the string spacing at the bridge on the fives ? Andy
 2. I'm guessing from "like brand new" that this has Lakie pickups and not Barts ? Andy
 3.
Any idea if Cubase 4 would have that feature?
If software works for you then I'm pretty sure Hydrogen is a solution. Free drum machine that you program yourself. From what little I've seen I wouldn't recommend it for mac (you get to places where you can't get back out) , but I strongly suspect that the windows version is OK since everyone talks about it. Andy
 4. Currently using a Boss PSA + daisy chain (and no pedalboard ) and looking to go to something like a pedaltrain nano (so only about 4 pedals) + some kind of power brick (mounted underneath as one unit, to make setup as slick as I can). Any suggestions ? Andy
 5.
I have those La Bella black nylon tapes on my fretless Precision now although I was using TI Jazz flats for ages before that.
How do you get those (labella tapes) in the UK now ? Stringbusters and strings direct don't seem to stock them. Andy
 6.
I use a Tribal Planet double Gigbag.
I used one once. Never again, wouldn't touch 'em with a bargepole. All the pocket zips failed (luckily not the main one). YMMV Also not terribly keen on Ritter but the one I had was used very regularly and lasted 5 years before falling apart at the seams (near the piping), so I guess I shouldn't complain too much. Rockbags seem fine to me, as does my newly acquired Mono ... but that ones out of your price bracket. Andy
 7.
I use Best Practice for this. Its free and appears to do everything your one does except from removing the low frequencies - you can change the pitch, tuning if what you are listening to isn;t quite to pitch without having to retune the bass to compensate, change the speed and loop. You just adjust any parameter you need to and it does it almost right away
Suprised no-one has mentioned 'Vox' (used to be 'Toolplayer') for the mac. It appears to be in the same ballpark as Best Practice and it's my go to rehearsal tool ... pitch changes (now calibrated in 10ths of a semitone ... good enough) tempo changes (plus a bunch of bizarre stuff you most likely wont need, but it's hidden and doesn't get in the way. If you have MP3s that are miss-tagged, or you need to tag your recordings, MP3Tag (win only) and MusicBrainz Picard (mac/win) are a god-send. Besides that, the ubiquitous cross-platform Audacity, also Cubase LE (mac and windows, free with Alesis audio interface ) and the software associated with my Bass Pod (which I used to gig, but it seems to now be home (rehearsal/recording) use only. I'd really like to know of some drum software that accepts midi-in and has a good selection of built in patterns and kits. Preferably free of course. Tried Hydrogen, but the mac version was so flakey I gave up on it. (Mac is my main rehearsal recording tool) Andy
 8.
2004 Fender CIJ '62 RI, bought off Lee650 on here some time ago Upgraded tuners, CTS pots, PIO tone cap, Seymour Duncan SPB-1 'Vintage' pickup, covers added.... otherwise standard Strung with La Bella flats. Its not a heavy bass; a nice weight & a lovely neck to play - a good bass for long gigs.
Nice bass ... I'm not that much of a precision buff (so you might need to educate me) ... but didn't the migration of the 'rest' from bottom to top happen mid-70's ? If so how come this one is at the top ... do the RIs come that way ? Andy
 9. Putting this up for sale as it never comes out of the drawer at home, never mind getting taken to a gig. Lots of modulation pedals in one, with 4 user programmable presets. Effects include Chorus, Phase, Flange, Rotary, Tremolo ... check the selector dial picture below for details. Here's Line6's current page for the MM4 For the the benefit of anyone who saw the previous listing, please note, the previous fault has been fixed by Line 6. I haven't set the price any higher because of the repair. And of course this is a pretty good guarantee the pedal is in good working order. I've researched the price and [s]£100[/s] £80 seems fair to me . However If you happen to think otherwise, hit me with an offer. In terms of trades I would really like to own an Envelope Filter ... the gloopier the better. I might also be interested in a Sansamp deluxe bass driver or deluxe VT Bass. Postage (if we can't arrange pickup somewhere in London) will be £12 which is just enough to cover what it will cost me at the Post Office. Andy

You either have a long memory or excellent search engine skills .... indeed ...
 11.
Thanks for the snappy response guys ... I think I'm off to buy myself an AI combo
... or not. Turns out the low impedance input isn't working at all. Now that's your input for everything but an unbuffered piezo, isn't ? I plugged my Rob Allen (piezo, active) into the high-impedance input, (which I'm presuming was the wrong choice) and can't say I was bowled over by it ... maybe I should take my EUB (piezo/active) when I go back. Anyway, they'll try and repair and I'll go back next week. However I'm starting to wonder if this is a case of, if it looks too good to be true, it probably IS to good to be true ... when the shop manager was told the lo-z input wasn't working, he tried to rectify matters by messing around with the speaker connectors, which didn't inspire confidence ... I hope the tech guy is more clued up.
 12. Thanks for the snappy response guys ... I think I'm off to buy myself an AI combo
 13. Can anyone give me their impressions of this amp ? What does it sound like (I know they're a DB favourite) ? Good buy ? Is it a classic ? Sadly outdated technology ? Andy
 14. Brilliant ... thank you. Who'd have thought of going to the manufacturers website eh? (doh!)
 15. Anyone know how many watts an Acoustic Image Contra IIa combo will deliver ? That's on it's own, not with an extension cab. I've got an opportunity to buy one, I don't know the spec (and google isn't helping me at all). There's a label on the back near the power socket that says 250 watt, but I think that's what it consumes from the mains, not what it delivers through the speaker. (Although it does kind of suggest a power rating of around 100 watts). TIA, Andy
 16. It's only the fact that that I know a 4-string bass is not going to see a lot of use in my hands, that's stopping me making a move on this. Have a bump for a gorgeous looking bass. Andy
 17. This is NOT mine ... but the pics popped up on Talkbass recently (in the fretless club). I thought it looked absolutely stunning and I thought I'd share it with you guys as you'd appreciate it. Original post here . Andy
 18. The deep 5 is ...deeper, more rounded, more organic than the electro. They're both capable of an uprighty kind of vibe, but I think of the electro as doing the 'stringy' side of that, and the deep 5 is fuller, fatter. The deep 5 has a fatter neck too. Spacing is about the same ...I think 5er Statuses are 18mm and I think the RA is 19mm .. but they feel pretty much identical in spacing so I could be wrong. The RA is not adjustable action-wise. You could get a new saddle cut, and you could tweak the truss rod, but Rob advises (via the booklet) that they're already set up optimally low without compromising the sound ... and that is sort of medium, definitely not low. The Electro has the same constraints on the bridge but I have tweaked the action a bit lower (via truss-rod) on that. In fact, I had to fiddle with the truss rod, it's quite sensitive to changes in tension from different kinds of strings. That goes with the slim neck I guess. More on the RA here. Guess I didn't say much about the electro ... is that enough for you ? Andy
 19.
I had a Mk 1 fretless five (now owned by BigBeatNut of these parts I believe) for quite some time. It was (is) a lovely instrument ...
Still is lovely ... I still have it. Here is one of Phil's pics (I hope he doesn't mind) Now strung with status black tapewounds. Have to say that it's now second in my affections to the Rob Allen Deep 5, but I still couldn't see myself parting with it. Andy
 20.
Whats your prob?
Unit works fine off batteries, but not with power supply. There is no fault with the power supply unit however, but there's what appears to be a burnt-out component on the PCB in the pedal. Had it checked out by the guy in Denmark St above 'Andy's' ... he confirmed everything I'd found and said it was best handled by Line 6 ... I think (it was a week or two ago now) the main reason was he couldn't isolate the PCB component at fault. Andy
 21. Just went looking through this thread for a bass I thought I'd seen here. Eventually I realised I'd seen it on TalkBass ... I thought I'd share it with you anyway. Original post here . Andy
 22. I finally got an answer today by calling Sales and pointing out that I'd been waiting since Friday for a returned call. 'Sales' walked through to 'Repair' to get the message through (they were as unsuccessful as I was with a phone call). Both Sales and Repairs were apologetic.
 23.
Still kept getting another though as they are great to play & at home sound ok.
Interested to know what your home setup is in that case. Same rig, low volume ? Small combo ? Headphones (through what amp/preamp) ? It's at home that I notice the 55-02 (lakie pickups) being a little too toppy for my taste, though PODxt and headphones. I need to take off treble everywhere (on the bass, on pod eq an pod amp modelling) before I can get some of the deep tones I need). Live (through markbass cmd121p with VLE control) it is easily tameable. Andy
 24. ... does anyone know the magic incantation for getting through ? I've been leaving messages on various numbers since friday (admittedly that was late in the day). Their working day has just finished and I still haven't had my call returned. Andy
