1.
Lovely stuff!
Much appreciated, sir
 2.
Arrrgh! Can't Stand Anonymous Naming (numbering policies) How's your average Joe supposed to work out which is what?!
Well, okay, but there is a lakland website . And a code. 55 = 5 string 4 or 44 = 4-string. Second part relates to the year of the bass, so the 55-94 is laklands first bass from 94, the 55-76 is a classic MM ('76) pickup config .... not hard to get your head round, particularly if you're an aficionado.
 3.
Rob Allen! Rob Allen! Rob Allen!
No, it's Steve Azola ! Steve Azola Steve Azola !
 4.
One clear thing I've noticed is that the Bart one I played had a 3 position switch for the humbucker. This gives you (in the Humbucker): 1)Front most single coil 2)humbucker/both coils 3)Rear coil on it's own. On the Lakland equipped one I played there was a 2 position switch for humbucking/single coil settings on that rear pickup. They are great basses IMO whichever you look at.
Hmmm ... I don't know what you've seen, but my 55-94 (USA, bart pickups) has a 3-position switch as does the 55-02 (Far East, Lakie pickups). That spec is confirmed by the Lakland website ("3-way Bridge Pickup Coil Tap Toggle"). Sounds like the one you saw with a two position switch was modified ? Andy
 5. My (limited) experience and my research suggests the same. I have a 55-94 (2005, barts) that I love to bits, and I recently acquired 55-02 (2008, Lakie pickups and LH3 pre). While I haven't done a like-for-like comparison (55-94 has pretty much always had flats on it, and the 55-02 has nickel rounds) the 55-02 does sound more agressive to me ... too much in the way of highs and high-mids. Don't forget, that COULD be strings, except that my findings seem to be echoed by the Lakie community on TB (conversation starts here but is interleaved with so much else that it's difficult to follow ) I think it's fair to summarize it like this: The older pickups (barts rather than lakies) are less aggressive. People swap pickups (both directions) for that reason. Also the LH3 while it's very flexible in the mids (mid frequency can be preset to about 8 different settings) it's somewhat lacking in it's ability to tame the highs. (That sums up hours of research in the Lakie megathreads and the Lakie 01 (mods) threads on TB). If I find out more by swapping strings and getting a like-for-like comparison, I'll post here. Andy
 6. There are way too many nice fretlesses for sale at the moment.
 7. My '79 P .... doesn't see much action these days, but I'd never sell it. I sometimes toy with the idea of getting an alternate fretless neck for it. The most accurate rendition of the colour ... And a few more details ...
 8.
I'd love to do a similar project, only with a P body and 5 strings.
Sounds like my kind of bass. I'll be buying mine, though, not building
 9.
This is so cool, and I love the video. For me, so much funkier than the Alain Caron vid! Si
Definitely more my kind of thing ... I was trying to add my slant on funk/groove to this collection ... adding back something in return for the things I've got out of the thread.
 10. How could I not post this ...Greyboy Allstars - Still Waiting http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RXlnZC--pbI
 11. Alain Caron getting funky -- Turkey Loose On The Kit This is the only bit of slap I've seen that makes me think, actually, I might want to learn how to do that ... most slap stuff I hear turns me off completely and instantly, no groove (or not a groove that appeals to me) ... but this has groove in spades. I can see that provoking a flurry of responses Andy
 12. Wish I could afford this but I can't .... where was this bass in the two years I was looking for the perfect fretless ? Andy
 13.
These are the areas you can tweak on the first version.... Full parametric Tone control section (Bandwidth, Gain, Freq, all four bands) ...
Intrigued ... what does the 'bandwidth' option do to the two shelving controls ... bass & treble ? Andy
 14. ON HOLD for the moment. I've decided to get it repaired so it's usable with power supply AND batteries. When it comes back, it will be more expensive, but I will NOT be trying to recoup the cost of the repair. I'll just re-list it at what seems to be the market value for a fully functioning MM4. Cheers, Andy
 15.
The guys band is great, Maceo Parker his album Funkoverload is kicking.
Heh I added this my favourites on YouTube a matter of days ago ... suspect it might have been as a result of viewing other YouTube links on this thread. This one really hits the spot for me Andy
 16.
If you like my Archtop then check out Joe's newest bass, the Concorde, which Phil and I are guessing is a short scale hollowbody.
Another Concorde pic from NAMM (thank you Bass Guitar Magazine ) Doesn't help me decide if it's long or shortscale. Andy
 17. There's always one of these to consider: Paul Lairat Side note: There's someone selling a 4-string one on here right now.
 18. Oh, man .... for a moment there I thought you were selling a 5-string version .... love to get my hands on one of those. Not a 4 though I'm afraid, Andy
 19.
The 34" Fretboard (22 fret) ...
Are you sure about the scale length ? I thought all non-US Lakie 5's used the same neck ... and my 55-02 is definitely a 35". Andy
 20. Wow ... this thread is going to keep me busy for months ... loads of quality stuff here, some I knew, some I didn't, some I'd forgotten ...
 21.
For me, the EB flats are as good as my beloved Labella flats.
That's the kind of thing I've been waiting to hear. And you've tried a 5-string set ? Andy
 22. Wow ... total thread hi-jack. Sorry, OP.
 23.

In that case you should probably view the finished article HERE
