3. The bass has left the building. I can't believe I actually let that one go
4.
I love that. I can't imagine what my band would say if I turned up with one tho
"What an awesome bass !" ? I know that when I first took it to a gig the keys player fell in love with it.
5.
What a lovely bass. And Starfire owners everywhere will hate you for selling it so cheap.
Mmm ... from the speedy sale I thought I might have pitched it too low .. I did my price research on eBay first though, so it can't be that far off market value.
6. Sorry, this is on hold. I have a firm offer for the asking price but as yet, no date set yet for it to happen.
7.
Good grief. Been after one of these for a while. Interested in trades at all?
Almost certainly not, I'm trying to get the numbers down (and fund the incoming bass if I can). However, there's no harm in telling me what you have in mind ... there's a remote chance I'll say yes. {EDIT} Actually, I might be interested in trades including pedals/effects rather than basses ... Andy
8. I've just remembered the knobs are non-original. I have the originals but 3 out of the 4 are missing the vol/tone label from the top, hence their replacement.
9. Fretless Lakland (Skyline) Hollowbody, in Candy Apple Red. This is a gorgeous bass in sound and looks (always gets compliments in both departments). I'd really like to keep it but I've got another bass incoming and even without that, this doesn't get the attention it deserves. It's not seeing much use, partly because it's 4 string, partly because I'm not playing any music that calls for it. For anyone who doesn't know, this is a fully hollow bass, no centre-block. Other non-obvious items are that it's passive (controls are VVTT) with pickup switch and a switch that changes the bartolini pickups from single-coil to humbucker. It's a factory fretless, not a conversion. Currently strung with Status black tapewounds which give it what I'd characterise as a 'stringy' tone ... to my ears this makes the bass capable of being a reasonable substitute for some kinds of upright sounds (in a band context, not heard alone) if you use your right hand right. I've also used it with TI jazz flats but I wasn't so keen on that sound, though you're welcome to that old set. I've also found that light flatwounds yield a nice growl, thanks to the peculiar mismatched set that came with the bass. My next string experiment was going to be Labella flats ... best I don't do that or I'll probably decide I want to keep it. There is the Lakland hardcase to go with it. This is fully functional, but has seen some wear and tear. The metal pressings that connect handle to case are slightly bent, but don't look like they're going to give way any time soon, and there are some abrasions to the outside of the case at one end which have exposed the underlying wood. There's a nice softcase that fits fine (actually a RockBag made for a Thunderbird) which you could have for another £20. However this is also being offered in another listing so it's first come, first served. Going for £680. In the usual basschat tradition, this is what I paid for it on basschat. That also means I'm not really thinking about taking offers. Hardcase included, but not postage. I would REALLY prefer to arrange a mutually agreed pickup point rather than put this in the post. Cheers, Andy
10. A DeArmond Starfire in black, cream binding. This is in very good condition, with one quirk. Some previous owner managed to damage the action adjustment screws in the bridge pieces making it hard-to-impossible to adjust with a hex key. This does NOT mean the action is fixed, I've managed to adjust the action perfectly well using a small pair of pliers to grip the screws. It's just less convenient than doing it with a hex key. It's currently strung with Rotosound flats (medium scale and light guage because of that), which are not doing it any favours. It sounds great strung with with long scale Labella flats, but it's a lottery as to whether a set of those will survive being wound onto the posts. So I'm including a set of D'addario chromes (medium scale, and heavier guage than the Rotos), they might even be on the bass by the time it's sold. I'm including a softcase in the price which is very functional for protection, but all the zips round the pockets are gone. There's a nicer softcase that fits fine (actually a RockBag made for a Thunderbird) which is fully functional in both the protection and pockets department, which you could have for another £20. However this is also being offered in another listing so it's first come, first served. I'm pitching this at £280, softcase included, but not postage. I would REALLY prefer to arrange a mutually agreed pickup point rather than put this in the post. Main reason I'm disposing of this ? It's not seeing much use, partly because it's 4 string, partly because I'm not playing any music that calls for it. Plus I have a new fretless coming in and therefore a girlfriend to placate Cheers, Andy
11. The Line 6 page about the MM4 is HERE. And you can get a complete rundown from the manuals HERE Very tweakable pedal. You could set up YOUR versions of (say) a uni-vibe, a phaser and two different choruses on the 4 presets. Anyone tempted ? Andy
12. Looks like there something made in the UK, in London in fact, that has the same purpose (same tone stack ?) as the submarine. I think I'm going to check out sfx sound.
13.
I'd say build it! You sound like you know enough about electronics to not make a complete hash of it. Failing that get one built? Pm me for details of a slightly odd man in a valley who likes nothing more than building stomp boxes.
I may just get back to you re the stomp box builder. Yeah, I have considered building it, might go that route too ... only thing stopping me is that last time I did anything remotely like that that was 30+ years ago, so I'd need to acquire all the gear for doing it (I don't have a ready stash of resistors, caps, switches, sockets etc). Where do people get this stuff these days ... Maplins ?
14. Okay ... does a new price of £100 tempt anyone ? Andy
15. Aha .... from this graph http://www.talkbass.com/forum/attachment.p...mp;d=1198345695 It looks like a submarine pedal does the job.
16. Back to page 1 ... No fretless players out there looking for a versatile chorus ?
17.
Have you thought about trying to use an EQ pedal?
My Boss GEB-7 doesn't do the job ... did you have something specific in mind ? The boss appears to do 15 db of cut at any one frequency ... from my recollection of electronics the passive RC network that you get from a passive bass type tone control will carry on cutting more treble the higher the frequency gets. Or maybe I'm hearing something else, like the interaction of the RC network with the low impedance of the pickup ? Does that produce a mid-bump ? Whatever, I'm looking for something that matches the 'depth' of the precision with the tone rolled down, and so far I've only found that in sophisticated devices like a PODxt (amp modelling PLUS EQ) ... I'd like to try and do the same thing with a simpler piece of kit. I've also considered boutique pedals, such as those that claim to emulate the the passive baxandall eq found in amps such as Ampeg flip tops ... but again that sounds like an expensive solution to a simple problem. If I'm not careful I'm going to talk myself into doing lots of time consuming googling for circuits and getting tooled up with all the gear to make a pedal myself ... Andy
18. Can't comment on component selection (simply don't know) or soldering (can't see most of it, circuit board is wrong way round to see) but something occurs to me: What's holding everything in place ? The battery and the circuit boards don't appear to be anchored to anything I can see. If everything's rattling around there's a risk of mechanical damage. Andy
19. Okay, I like my active basses. BUT ... if I go back to my '79 precision I find the tone control on that cuts the treble to a much greater degree than any active bass treble control. So is there any chance of finding a pedal that does that same deep cut ? I guess a low output impedance buffer as discussed HERE , followed by a simple pot + cap as found in passive basses might do the job. But I've searched for something like that in the past with no luck. And it is a pedal I want. I'm not considering (for the two basses I have in mind) swapping out the current pre for another (say, an Audere), nor I am thinking of going back to passive (in particular, I do like to be able to tweak the bass control). Any ideas ? Andy
20. Putting this up for sale as it never comes out of the drawer at home, never mind getting taken to a gig. Lots of modulation pedals in one, with 4 user programmable presets. Effects include Chorus, Phase, Flange, Rotary, Tremolo ... check the selector dial picture below for details. Here's Line6's current page for the MM4 One slight problem that may not affect you or bother you. While the unit works fine off batteries (3 C type), and the power supply functions (I've just tested it with a meter) when you plug the the power supply into the pedal, it doesn't work. [s]I presume this is a mechanical problem with the connector, but there's no guarantee at all that this is the case. There is a risk that if you buy this pedal you might find this aspect of it unrepairable, and you have to run it off batteries. Trying to be upfront here ... I genuinely do not know where the problem lies, but if you're happy with battery operation there's no reason at all to be worried.[/s] It turns out (after a visit to an amp/pedal repairer) this pedal wlll need to be returned to line6 for repair for it to run off the power supply again. Don't forget, it works fine off batteries. I've researched the price [s]and £120 looks fair to me[/s] now £100. However If you happen to think otherwise, hit me with an offer. In terms of trades I would really like to own an Envelope Filter ... the gloopier the better. I might also be interested in a Sansamp deluxe bass driver or deluxe VT Bass. Postage (if we can't arrange pickup somewhere in London) will be whatever it costs me at the Post Office. I haven't researched that yet, sorry.
21. I'm up for it. So long as EUBs are welcome
