1.
It's a question of using the right case for the right situation. You can't carry a Hiscox case on your back, and I wouldn't want to carry one for more than 10 minutes walking.
Hiscox case on a shopping trolley, then
2. Gig bags are EVIL. I've suffered from them doing what your has done. I'm surprised you even think of getting another gig bag (spit!).The only answer is a proper Hiscox case!
3. Very sorry to learn of this. His contribution is incalculable. Natch, sympathies to all who were close to him. I hope those who helped him run his business will continue to run it and develop its products in the manner he would wish. RIP Jim.
4.
Thinks I'll keep a copy of this and give you advice a try. I have a couple of others I need to get on SC first.
OK Please may i refer you to what I said to rOB?
5.
Thanks so much for the advice. Much appreciated. I'll have a look into those mixing tips.
Please report back your findings - does it work or did you find a better way?
6. IMO if you want to get paid for playing then you have to play what people will pay you to play. Same as making software I suppose - there's no embedded C/assembler work around here, it's all databases and websites so if I want to get paid for making software i'll have to blag my way into SQL or php ... there's other jobs I'll do/have done at-a-pinch eg office dogsbody stuff but if I hold out for the job spec & T&C that I ideally want then I'll stay on the dole for a long time. A previous post refers to compromise. There's lots of songs I'd never listen to for my own entertainment but if paid enough to learn them and regurgitate them at a gig then I'll take the money and do the work.
7. I think the SPX90 allows you to use the one o/p as mono so long as you don't put a plug in the other o/p. At least that's how mine is wired, and I don't notice any ill effects ('scuse pun).
8.
Phil, you should steal Seashell's avatar pic - just to make the confusion complete.
We don't think the cats are related
9. I've forgotten various leads before now, and piled into a guitar solo by switching to the other pickup - only to find its vol pot rolled right off.
10. On a slightly lighter note: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3hcZ4s9cvpw
11. Rockschool change their syllabus every 5 years or so. 2012 is all-change time.
12. Using the roof rack as well, we got a 3-piece band in an Austin Princess. Drummer driving, bass player in front with his bass & amp head, me in the back with my guitar, amp head & 4x12 cab, drumkit in the boot with PA amplifier, and PA columns on the top. Slightly cramped, but do-able. When I had an Escort 1300 van, I put the drummer in the passenger seat, and my full stack with 2 guitars and gig box, the drumkit, and two singers went in the back. It was OK, they were good mates.
13. Check out the MU for Partnership Agreements which cover this subject.
14. Some good stuff here, but here's my vote. The man's a master, and the composer is a truly brilliant woman. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pIKEWCyj8mw
15. I've just had on Spooky Tooth, Vanilla Fudge, and Gnidrolog, all recently found on YouTube. Old names I remember from way back when, and which I thought I'd never hear again. Oh yes - and this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A4BiAQo712s
16.
Rainbow. Actually Blackmore in Purple too, other guitarists have come into the band but they all had their own styles so none of them sound any way similar.
Ritchie is one of my favourites too
17. Do the National Anthem Jimi Hendrix style. (Including the IoW introduction Stand up for your queen and country and if you don;t then f___ you!)
18. Gut reaction: Yes, it's a significant part of his job, although not the only part of it. But I agree with other posters - the whole band ought to have some kind of responsibility for it as well, especially the bass player (isn't that why the drummer and bass player are called the rhythm section?)
19. Checkout Girl. You've added more balls to the guitar sounds, nice. FWIW I'd try this: put the drums up as high as you dare. then add bass till it sounds like a balanced rhythm section. then add guitars. then vocals, and if you can't get the vocals high enough to hear properly, try: guitars that happen at the same time as vox - pan them to the sides away from the vox (which should be central), also scoop their EQ at 3kHz by -3dB and hump the vox at 3kHz by +3dB. IMO rhythm guitars don't need to be high in the mix at all. I know they sound big when you first put them in but that temptation has to be resisted.

21.
http://soundcloud.com/mole-music-1 Feedback welcome as so far my wife is the only person who has heard me playing.
Checkout Girl Brilliant Groove! Like the observational subject matter as well. tbh I think the production lacks a fair bit but the song was entertaining enough for me to forgive that. Burning Ghosts I guess this should sound more sinister than it does, but hey, I've still got that Checkout Girl groove stuck in my mind and I'm not sure I'm paying as much attention to this as I should. If you've been away from guitar for 25 yrs and only had a bass for 3 weeks you're doing all right, mate. Keep at it!. BTW Have you read a book by Paul White called Creative Sound Recording? If not, check it out.
22. I make a chord chart, and then the bass line that I hear makes more sense when I try to learn it by ear. Usually, that is enough. I also have a few of my own symbols such as ! which means a stop. If I need more detail then I start Sibelius and make a set of dots. The chord chart also maps out the song by intro/verse/chorus/middle/outro as required; knowing what happens when is just as important as being able to play a groove underneath a chord progression.
23. I concur. If you want a job done properly ...
24. (Thread Title) ... It's connected to the thigh bone ...
25.
Hi Heres a couple of tracks off my alybum 'Crazybassman' hope you like! all comments etc greatly received.
How do you open those? In your post they don't have mp3 extensions so my computer doesn't know what to do with them. Edit: clicking on the files in the quote opens them and iTunes is now playing ... Transpire The rhythm sounds like it should be african drums but its all different instruments with a guitar that sounds a bit like John Lennon playing slide on an Epiphone Casino, then a nice little bassy break which builds up with drums & other things getting added until we get back to the original groove. There's a lot of instruments in that mix. Urora Lovely fretless intro. Then more african drums. The electric bass is not always an easy instrument to feature in a full mix hence a lot of bands include a bass solo in the breakdown of a song. But here is a really good attempt at making it the lead instrument and Steve manages it without the bass splatting everything else in the mix. Well done Sir! (how did you do it or is that a trade secret?)
