1.
In what way are these Fender basses any different from any other Fender bass from the same year?
For the most part none whatsoever! I'm just surprised they don't make them already considering some of the artists they mass produce signature basses for. The Flea replica would be interesting as far as I know they don't currently do a stackknob '61 jazz reissue in the same price range as say the geddy lee or mike dirnt basses, and the Paul Simonon would have a black headstock and DiMarzios as standard. Besides, the Geddy Lee sig, one of their more popular ones currently, is just a '73 reissue with a Badass II and a squiggly line on the back of the headstock... doesn't stop it being a great bass though It's not always so much the player as the era it conjures up
2. I'm surprised Fender don't do mass-produced James Jamerson/Duck Dunn P-Basses(although I believe both existed at one point?) I'd love a replica of Flea's old white stackknob Jazz bass too, or Paul Simonon's precision
3. I'm a bit gutted it's been taken down really, I was the high bidder at time of cancellation and was looking forward to spending perhaps £300 tops on a nice battered old Squier(I learnt to play on a battered old Squier) and then lovingly restoring it over the course of a couple of months before eventually selling it and just about breaking even on the replacement parts I'd have had to buy for it. Now instead there's a good chance a music shop will do the restoring and the seller will have to take their chances, but I'll be surprised if it goes for over £500 with the original body/neck in that state. It'd be a great labour of love but I can't see it turning a massive profit for whoever decides to fix her up. I hope to god MDP doesn't get his hands on it...
4.
Active or Passive?
Passive
5. Sterling by MusicMan SB14 in black. It's one of these http://www.gak.co.uk/en/sterling-by-musicman-sb14-black/50831, I love the sound to bits but I'm after a few different bass/guitar related things so unfortunately this has to go. Can honestly say it has the best MusicMan tone I've heard. Based in Liverpool/Manchester, collection only for now sorry as I've no box to post in or time to find one. However (and I know this may seem to contradict what I just said...) I'll be happy to drop it off at your nearest train station for travel expenses, which I'll halve if it's for a part exchange. -Open to offers and trades etc
6.
I love converts
I'll be honest, as I'm buying a Rumbler in the next few days anyway I'm actually kinda hoping this doesn't sell so I can keep both!
7. Has anyone bought anything from this site? Or Tradetang, I remember that being similar. Some very convincing R copies on there, and given the choice between a massive Chinese wholesaler and John Hall I know who I'd rather have my hard-earned money...
8. Looks legit to me. That said, there's a gorgeous JV '57RI for sale on here that still doesn't seem to be budging at £650, so with that in mind I'll be surprised if this goes for much more than the £190 it's at at time of writing this...
9. Here's my U-Bass up for grabs, bought from Alyctes(who I believe bought from bobpalt on here originally) on here a few weeks back for my ukulele band. Reason for selling is I bloody love it and want to upgrade to a slightly fancier model with active electronics and a mahogany top. Since buying it I've also bought a £25 set of Aquila Thunderguts for it and attached a strap button at the neck heel to make it balance better. I've just done 6 gigs in 3 days with this bass so I can 100% testify to it's sound, playability, and most importantly gig-ability! I'll also include the original Black Pahoehoe strings with the sale in case the thunderguts aren't to buyer's taste. Includes original gig bag. £260 (shipped via parcelforce) to UK addresses
10. Bump!
11. Part ex'd my Markbass CMD121P for Daz's Sterling and some cash. Pleasure to do business with, highly recommended!
12. Cheers for the pointers guys! Gave it another setup today to lower the bass side of the pickup and raise the G's saddle... That and a slight bass/mid boost on the bass seem to have fixed it for now *touch wood* hope this has sorted it for good!
13. Took delivery of a Sterling by MusicMan SB14 today, and got to gig it for the first time tonight. Sounded fine through a practice amp but the moment I took it up to gigging volume through our PA the G just dropped right out, all you can hear when it's being played is a high-pitched clank with no fundimental... All other strings work fine and sound nice and bassy. Is this to do with how I set up the bass (pickup height too high or maybe action too low?) or is it just an inherent problem with MusicMan basses? The Wikipedia page on stingray basses mentions that this can happen and it's down to the player... Hmm. Perhaps I'm playing too aggressively? Any help would be appreciated, I love the sound of the three strings I was able to use tonight!
14. I had a Wesley flying V (Nimrod..?) a few years back after seeing the one in the Feelgood, Inc music video, it looked cool as anything! Neck was a bit wide for my taste and I got laughed out of Dawson's for trying to buy a case for it but it sounded great! Balance was a bit of an issue as you really need to attach one end of the strap to the end of the neck, but this would drive me mad as I'd always rather use the one at the body end... I also remember having to relocate the body strap button to somewhere better, but a lot of it is down to personal preference. I thought I pulled it off pretty well back in the day...
15. Cheers for all the interest guys, amp is on hold pending a part exchange in about half an hour
16. Done... I'll even let you choose the tea/cake
17.
MB1. ...7 days and still no sign of land? BUMP!
Thanks! As per edited description I still really would rather not ship this, however now I am willing to drop it off at your nearest train station for £500[firm](reduced from £650) plus travel expenses(ie train ticket and a pork pie or two)
18.
were you really filling a shopping centre with a Roland micro cube?
Yep. Only need to keep up with four ukuleles but go busking with the cube in Liverpool One all the time!
19. Would also love one of them squire VM VI's too if anyone has one they're bored of...
20. These are great little amps, I love mine. If this is still here when my markbass sells I'm having it... Have a bump!
21. Sold a stomp box to Mike last week, super fast transaction and once again a top guy to do business with. Many thanks again!
22. I've seen a lot off basses for sale with these as an upgrade lately, yet on eBay they go for under £2. Are they actually an upgrade, or in any way different to 'regular' jack outputs? If I bung one in my fender p will it make the slightest bit of difference? I'm guessing not but if someone can suggest otherwise that would be smashing!
