1. Not on these ones, there didn't seem to be anything holding them on- had they been epoxied I'd have probably just sold them. Seems silly over something like the colour, but RW/white/black/creme just looks perfect on a p-bass IMHO, and be nice to have the actual DM logos on there as they're real ones and all haha
2. As in title... bought some cheapo cream covers off eBay for my DiMarzio Model P which look great, but some real ones would be cooler, if anyone wants to swap gis a shout, otherwise if you've a set of pickups that need DiMarzio logos on the covers, I'll post these to your door for a tenner
3. EHX Big Muff Pi fuzz pedal in original box- you know the score. This is the standard version not the Little, Bass or Russian, selling as I've not used it in over a year as I prefer distortion to fuzz and this is a little big for my pedalboard. Sounds mighty with guitar, keys and bass! Feel free to ask any questions, price is £40 delivered to your door or £35 collected from my house in Aigburth, Liverpool(also advertised on Gumtree; £5 discount for you lovely BC'ers ). EDIT- withdrawn as I put this on eBay a week ago and forgot about this advert...

Just taken delivery of an OC-2 from Dave, smooth transaction and kept me informed of when it was sent etc, buy with confidence!
5.
I have the Markbass NY121 1x12 cab, as it matches the speaker in my Markbass combo, for when I need a bit more presence. Great speaker, really light, adjustable h/f horn/tweeter. And goes loud too. The combo on its own (same speaker remember) is enough for most places.
This. If budget allows, the only way is Markbass.
6. If they're that worried about protecting the brand, and the only reason most Rick copies are still bought and sold is because of the price of the real thing, I wonder why they've not yet thought about bringing out a Epiphone/Squier/OLP type range..? Same shape as a USA 4003 but made in Indonesia, China or Korea from cheaper materials and retailing around £500-600? They'd make an absolute killing. -perhaps buying out Rockinbetter would be an easy way to get started..? Once these were on the market only enthusiasts would care about the 70's lawsuit basses, and the people who buy fakers purely because of the price of real Ricks(management ethics aside) would happily shell out quarter the price of a USA, same as people happily pay £500 for a MiM Fender rather then a £1000 MiA. ...If Mr Hall happens to read this, I'm currently looking for work and would welcome the opportunity to help make this a reality.
7. The trouble with this new policy is it's going to increase the chances of people trying to pass fakers off as the real thing in order to sell them. If something physically cannot be sold as a Hondo II or whatever, and I had to sell it, I'd now be inclined to print off a Ric logo and glue it on the headstock- the buyer would know the deal, and suddenly the rickstapo would have to police every single listing, not just the ones trying to avoid using the 'r' word in full.
8. Cheers folks!
thats a great tone, really like that. I play a cheapo VM Squier jazz and it's surprisingly versatile with tones but i think i'll be looking to emulate this tone for one or two tracks. Any pointers in settings??
VM jazzes have great pickups, used to get very close to this sound with my old one. Main pointers are pickups set high, a brand new set of Roto Swing bass strings set low, and most importantly a really aggressive finger attack. I was running it through a fair bit of compression and a SansAmp SVT emulator(use this or something similar to add 'grit' and a hint of distortion. EQ wise I kept the amp settings flat and removed the extreme lows and highs so as not to interfere with the kick drum or cymbals. Hope this helps, let me know if I can be any more use!
9. Interesting... there's a very similar one in red for slightly more at a Cashies in Liverpool, would love to know why these are worth so much
10. Not the obvious choice for a gear porn section given the price tag(the Jazz was £150 brand new from the excellent 'Music Brothers' shop in Shrewsbury back in '09 and the Precision £107 in filthy state on eBay) but for your consideration ladies and gents: Indonesian Squier Standard series basses circa. 2007/2008, matching pair in Red Antiqueburst
11.
Actually for gigging, one bass is usually fine. But different basses do different things and also make you play differently. That's fun for me, so I want an assortment to go to those "other places."
This. Although I tend to rotate 9 of the 10 I've got for gigs depending on my mood, only bass that doesn't get out much is my 1964 Egmond as it has the most unpredictable electronics in the known universe and I've not got round to having KGB in Birkenhead sort it out once and for all yet...
12.
Loving the new album! That said I still think it's a wee bit over-hyped... there's a danger of it getting hammered too hard... but for the time being I'm really enjoying it. Off topic: I'm also enjoying the track below as my current 'guilty pleasure' I'm quite a fan of dancehall and thought I'd hate this when I heard about it, but it's growing on me. Only mentioning it 'cos it seems set to crash the charts, if it hasn't done so already.
Tune that, great bass sound!
13. Thanks! As you say though, I'm not sure whether having had a great bass for £150 will stop me eventually trying a vintage Fender when funds allow...
14. Finally got pretty much the sound in my head into ProTools, surprisingly with a lowly Squier Standard Jazz bass... I've owned all manner of expensive basses over the years and oddly enough this cheapo jazz with some MIM pickups has the best sound of any I've tried -that or my technique's suddenly got a lot better. Either way I've just saved myself a fortune on some of the expensive boutique basses I'd been eyeing up lately. For your consideration, a botched playalong to a MIDI backing track of YYZ (chosen as to my ear the tone sounds a little bit Geddy-ish)- https://soundcloud.com/steveleggett/yyz-midi-backing-track-live
15. I've had a few listens now, while I still think it's the best new album I've heard in a while and look forward to purchasing it on release, I also reckon it had potential to be so much more... there are a few too many slow songs, and even-dare I say it- also a few too many vocoders, even for my taste...
16. So it was apparently leaked earlier today, so iTunes have started streaming the album in full similar to what they did with Bowie's latest effort. I'm about halfway through and it's easily the best new album I've heard in a good long while. Some fantastic bass playing throughout including some lovely slap work on 'Lose Yourself To Dance' by Nathan East... look forward to getting it on vinyl on the 20th!
17. Fantastic tone and playing there! Had forgotten how good the playing was on the Fragile album.
18. MDP, and the guy that cut the wings off a Yamaha RBX and stuck a pin on the end to make an 'upright bass', take note; this is how guitar building SHOULD be done! http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Toilet-Seat-Bass-Guitar-sh*t-o-caster-/251271856418?pt=UK_Musical_Instruments_Guitars_CV&hash=item3a80f84122 Genius...
19. Beyerdynamic TG V71D/V70D are fantastic mics, as are the high end Audio Technicas (Geddy Lee uses one!) Beyer M88 TG's occasionally come up second hand under £200 (£250 new) and they are really special.
20. Still no takers for a genuine relic..? (is it me or is that a Vintage V4 p copy under all that abuse? There's a few on eBay for considerably less band new and unmolested! http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Vintage-V4SB-V4-SB-Electric-Bass-Guitar-Sunburst-Finish-/400430947457?pt=UK_Musical_Instruments_Guitars_CV&hash=item5d3b8b5c81 )
21. This was at 16p until just now, where in an exciting turn of events bidding has shot up to the scary heights of £1.43! Lovely 'Cram/White' colour! http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/190831413465?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649 Collection only from Mansfield, if you live locally there's a good chance of this being a bargain when it finishes in 20h
22. Looks real having seen all that, but man that bass has had a tough life! Like Ash says, it would be a nice little project at the right price...
23. The standard pots in my Standard Indonesian jazz were utterly lousy, as were the pickups. Output was ok but it had a really thin and tinny top end- with hindsight this could have probably been fixed by new pots and capacitor. Well worth doing, otherwise if you've got a good one they're on a par with pre '09 Fender MIMs IMHO
24. What's everyone make of this? I know very little about these but it looks a bit suspect to me, no pictures of headstock except by request, and a very interesting 'custom made scratchplate'..? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/281098862701?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649
