Open to reasonable offers... how's £40 sound guv? I think he might have accidentally put an extra zero on the price.

Not a bass I know, but there is something terribly annoying about seeing a potential bargain that turns out to be a Squier advertised as a Fender. This fellow has taken one step further by charging a Fender price for a guitar worth roughly £40... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/electric-guitar-fender-stratocaster-sunburst-/230839308197?pt=UK_Musical_Instruments_Guitars_CV&hash=item35bf184fa5#ht_500wt_1167 Best of luck mate..!

I've yet to hear anything good about the fleabasses review-wise. Especially for the money! Could easily get an OLP or better for the same cash

Only one neck? Where's the fun in that?!

Jazz bass bridge pickup swapped out for humbucker idea?
SlapbassSteve replied to Mattbass97's topic in Bass Guitars
Sandberg and Warwick do some nice basses with that J/MM config. Agree with LukeFRC on you trying a Precision though, might just be the one you tried before didn't have great pickups, the stock ones in my MiM Fender sounded awful. Failing that there are some decent MM copies out there, would be much more practical to just get one of those, it's not easy to route without a decent set of tools, and however much you spend upgrading a bass you will generally never add to the value, so it's something to consider if you'd ever want to replace it. -
Is there such a thing as a bass ukulele UNDER £200 ?????
SlapbassSteve replied to Wayne Firefly's topic in Bass Guitars
Amazed no companies have noticed the sizeable gap in the market for a cheapo uke bass. The Kala ones are pretty sexy but I can't see why you'd spend £400-ish on one when you could get a pretty decent 'normal' bass or even a cheapo double for that kinda money. -
Fender Geddy Lee basses - where are they made now?
SlapbassSteve replied to Conan's topic in Bass Guitars
Have they reduced the price accordingly? I'm guessing not....!
-what he said! They aren't cheap as it is, but if they stay the same price £800+ for a Mexican Bass is taking the mickey a little, especially with the Squier Vintage modified jazzes being so darn good value at the £270 mark. Expect the Jap ones to be a great investment from here on -
Lovely! Nice to see an old Fender in such good nick, I'm getting far too used to seeing them in 'relic' mode after years of abuse.

These are sounding more and more pointless by the minute. Can't help but wonder if they'd be any better if made with today's tech though...
how many different bass sounds do you need at one gig? you know most the audience doesn't even know you're there aye?
Now that's very true! Might unplug for a couple of tunes at the next one and see if anyone notices, if not I'll consider using my Strat with an octave pedal from then on to save space...
Came upon me unexpectedly. Was singing along to the vocalist/guitarist (who often looks for a rest for his throat) and he looked round & nodded "off you go then" at me. And what happened? The words to All Right Now instantly escaped me How does that happen!? It's not as if I was even playing the bass at the time DOH!!! Still that's the first time out of the way. Onwards & upwards!
Had a similar experience recently myself at the end of Dakota, it's a pretty awesome feeling! Think I'm addicted now though...
I keep thinking about singing a couple of numbers but.... GULP
Give it a go! First time's the hardest!

Good point about the lack of players, cannot think of anyone I know that uses one. Main appeal to me is that while I do have all those sat in my room I can barely fit one of them into the car each gig, never mind one of each!

Changing capacitor on my P-Bass
SlapbassSteve replied to kevin_lindsay's topic in General Discussion
Drop me a PM with your address and I'll post you a Mullard 0.015uf vintage capacitor so you can try it out. Ice ordered 10 of them and they should be with me mid-week. As soon as I receive my order I'll get one off to you as a freebie. Cyrene - if you fancy doing it also, drop me a PM and I'll post one to you also as a freebie. Here's how the Mullard "tropical fish" capacitors look:
Thanks! Pm'd -
What is your favourite brand of strings? (Survey)
SlapbassSteve replied to davidmpires's topic in General Discussion
...any prizes for guessing your favourite colour..?
Oddly it's not even my favourite colour, just seems to look good on every bass! Had a set of Fender flats once with a horrendous green silk, had to get rid because it was clashing... sounded quite nice though! -
Hi all, Due a bit of money in October if/when my student loan appears and I was wondering if one of these is worth blowing(...investing?) my food budget on. I'm in a covers band and like the idea of being able to go between various famous tones at the turn of a knob, especially as these are going pretty cheap at the moment compared to what they sell for new. Are they actually any good? Goes without saying there's no way the Rickenbacker preset for example would sound as good as the real thing(tonewood, construction, circuitry etc...) but how close would it get compared to an EQ'd Jazz bass? Difficult to tell from youtube vids without comparing head to head with the real thing. And if anyone owns one, what's the neck like? For some reason without having ever even seen one in the flesh I'm expecting a P-style profile. Cheers in advance!

SlapbassSteve replied to davidmpires's topic in General Discussion
Roto Swingbass all the way, 50% for the tone and 50% for that sexy red silk. However if Elixir ever bought out a set of their coated lovelies with red silk ends my loyalty would be severely tested... -
Changing capacitor on my P-Bass
SlapbassSteve replied to kevin_lindsay's topic in General Discussion
Really sounds like something I should try on my Precision, I hate that undefined tone when you roll it off a little to offset new string zing etc... Is there a massive difference between these ones (0.015uf paper in oil cap) and those Sprague Orange Drop caps that are mentioned on here a lot? Playing guitar in addition to bass...
SlapbassSteve replied to Evil Undead's topic in General Discussion
I basically play an awful lot of lead guitar style fills on the bass, my previous experience as a guitarist helps a lot. Need to learn to play bass more like it's a bass... -
Marcus Miller 5 string Glasgow Gumtree
SlapbassSteve replied to uke's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
I think someone was selling these in London a while back as 'replicas' for about £150-200. Note the cheapo scratchplate (with lack of holes for the bridge cover), lack of polepieces and bbot bridge... Someone's trying to make a cheeky profit! -

You know where you can shove your Markbass ...
SlapbassSteve replied to Happy Jack's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
Remember this guy's original Gumtree ad? The one excluding "the Markbass generation"? Well, he's back, and this time with no mention of Markbass. http://www.gumtree.c...-band/108596775 How totally unremarkable. Except that, on the same day, he also posted this: http://www.gumtree.c...-band/108593026 Hmmmmmm.
Sooo... he needs a clone of himself to play in his own band then..? -
I just love what he's done to the bridge on this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Student-acoustic-fast-learner-guitar-set-up-like-an-electric-for-lead-work-/190711206467?pt=UK_Musical_Instruments_Guitars_CV&hash=item2c67461243#ht_500wt_1288 -also note the 'what looks like Grover tuners (photo 8), but are exact perfect replicas and they work just as nicely as grovers.' -kinda like my first bass, an old £50 factory-damaged(or perhaps 'factory improved'..?) Boston Precision copy, which was of course an 'exact perfect replica' of a real Fender Precision and worked just as nicely as a Fender... I wish.

Probably because I've never used one, but I can't stand the idea of these sniping things. Obvs it's an auction and not a game but at the same time it's cheating surely? And as for pulling the auction being against ebay rules, I can't see how ebay would ban that and yet allow an outside application to mechanically bid at the last fraction of a second to keep the price down, after all it means they lose out on final value fees.

This just keeps getting better! I'm convinced it's a windup though. (...or at least I really really hope it's a wind-up)

SlapbassSteve replied to Ghost Rider's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
Sorry 'SlapbassSteve' - that was me! I'm half expecting the seller to say that the BIN price was supposed to be £100.00 not £10.00. Not sure where I stand, what the implications are of this etc - but I've been on the lookout for a 'project' 4 string. He also has a Behringer amp listed for sale as well with a start price of £50.00 (no BIN).
No worries, I was exactly the same! To be honest I was half expecting something like that with the price myself too, makes no sense to have it on that cheap. Enjoy!
