1.
he's probably agreed a deal outside eBay with someone!
Some poor soul might think they have a bargain!
2. Bids've all been cancelled, it's gone now! Half expecting it to resurface in a couple of days with a more honest description.
3. I'm no expert on this but pretty sure my VM Jazz had conductive paint lining the cavity, was a dark grey colour. At least I assume that's why they'd bothered to paint and attach the earth the cavity itself. I think my '08 MiM precision has something similar.
4. Can't wait, it's been a long time coming! Be great to hopefully see another side to his playing.
5. I try to use one when I can, keeps levels consistant and means I can play my bass at the level where it sounds best and gives that proper Jazz farty 'growl' sound without any really harsh peaks. I'm pretty sure the likes of Geddy Lee Flea and Tony Levin use shedloads too and it contributes quite a bit to their individual tones. Sledgehammer would be a rather more subdued affair without it! Probably depends on what you're playing and how you want to sound though.
6.
I dare say they'd say exactly the same as today... "How much are we gerrin' fer tha'?"
YES.
7. The entire Matthew Street area is a bit of a cash-in. The pay-to-play business for bands playing in the Cavern is slightly ironic, as I doubt the Beatles would have considered playing back in the day- essentially the place trumpets itself as the home of music in Liverpool and yet is at the same time damaging the local scene and making things harder for new bands to gain a following. There is a fantastic original music scene in Liverpool but for the most part in my experience it's had nothing to do with the Cavern, a massive waste of a great venue. And don't even get me started on The Hard Day's Night Hotel, I'd love to know what the Beatles would have thought about having a place running pretty much entirely off their images and playing their music outside on a constant loop during the day 45 years after they broke up. I cringe walking past there.
8. Been watching this one myself, interesting how he's deliberately letting bidders make up their own minds, I think he knows more then he's letting on. It'll either go for next to nowt or some poor fool will put £250 on thinking it's the real thing. Gotta admit I've put a cheeky bid on, would be a good spare for rougher gigs...
9. R.I.P a fantastic bassist and still far too under-recognised. Inner City Blues is one of my favourites http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_f3wiU7VTAU
10. Hi, is this still available? For that price it'd be worth the travel from Liverpool...
11.
I think this may be the person in question. Worth a read. http://www.markpercy.co.uk/ CB
I'd like to think of something witty to say about that website, but my mind has gone blank. I wonder if he has a special room lined with tin foil so the government satellites can't read his thoughts..?
12. Beautiful tone. I don't want to defret my MM copy but I fear I may have to if I watch that again!
13. That is beyond beautiful. Gutted my next student loan instalment isn't until October or I'd be all over this like a rash!
14. My Markbass setup pushes the £1400 mark... add pedals(when I use them), leads etc at new prices and I'd be pushing £1600. If space and weight were no issue I'd be playing the local with an Ashdown 8x10 for half the price, but car space is very limited and it's great to be able to carry my entire setup in two hands! Entire rig weighs next to nothing even compared to my old Ashdown 1x15
15. *cringe* Well, good luck to him! 'to drive band along'- you do your job, sunshine, and we'll do ours! I take the Markbass bit a little bit personally. Presumably the guitarist has a Marshall Wall of Doom and only a wall of 8x10s will keep up...
16. Without Flea I wouldn't even know what a bass guitar is, never mind how to pay my rent and put food on my table with one. There are a fair few players (especially around roughly my age bracket) that were first inspired to play by the man, can't see how anyone could be negative about a player that inspires people to take up the instrument. ...Also he was in one of the Back To The Future movies. 'nuff said.
17.
This thread from Talkbass might be useful - http://www.talkbass....odel-js-655620/
Cheers, good thread that! Looks like the 75's are the way forward. Mine came yesterday, in the end I put the '75 in my Fender Jazz, and the Fender Jazz pickup in my Squier. Bit of a tight squeeze but didn't need to reroute as it was only a couple of mm different. Result is an improved Mexican Fender, and a Squier Jazz that sounds considerably better than its bigger brother! Will get hold of a neck position '75 in the next month or so for my Fender and do the same again.
18. Had been using my MIM Jazz/MIM Precision (only cost me £400 for both of them- bargains!) but for the last few gigs I've used my modded Squier Standard J because I actually reckon it's the better bass of the three. Besides, the acoustics are never that great that anyone in the crowd can tell the difference! All my cash went into getting an amp that could hold its own without snapping my spine.
19. All this is making me want a Bronco to mod! Is the pickup literally just the same size as a strat pickup?
20. '08 MiM Precision...
21. My brother has a VM Jag, absolutely fantastic basses, the only thing that lets them down is the finish(or lack of...) on the back of the neck!
22.
I think the problem with them is the fact that there isn't really anything keeping the saddles straight. Obviously newer versions have grooves cut in to keep them in place which is good. Personally I prefer bridges that have saddles that are held in place by long screws with springs though, the reason being that it is a lot easier to adjust the intonation on such bridges.
+1 -Agree about the lack of saddle grooves. Main reason I'm not keen on stock bridges compared to higher mass ones though isn't so much the sound, on my jazzes I can feel the entire bass resonating when I pluck a string compared to before I installed the heavier bridge. Going back to a regular bridge after that I feel like something's missing when I play it, it doesn't seem to resonate properly. Probably varies from bass to bass though!
23. If only I were closer... it's almost worth the train fare from Liverpool at that price!
24.
Really dark board says this might belong here, any other tells? http://www.ebay.co.u...=item1c29007291
This must be the future, people can't sell fakers as fakers so they'll try to pass them off as the real thing. Bit of an own goal for Mr H and his rickstapo officers there.
25. I used to have a Badass MkII on my MIM Precision, thought it was a vast improvement on the tone at the time- however the stock pickups were a pile of rubbish. After putting usable pickups in there I ended up replacing it with a Gotoh 201, and putting the Badass on my Jazz- problem solved! Definitely agree with high mass for jazz, lower mass for precision. Not a massive fan of stock Fender bridges though. I hate to admit it, but I think Badass II's are a little overrated, Gotoh 201's do the same job for half the money. Only problem is they don't look... well, badass!
