Cory Henry and the Funk Apostles last night at Koko in Camden. Very nearly the perfect gig. Great sound, great venue, outstanding musicianship. Only the price of a beer (£6.10) to moan about. Although Cory Henry was his usual amazing self, the standout moments were solos from the Guitarist , Adam Agati and the 2nd keyboard Nick Semrad. Just WOW.

Learn the basic chord structure of the song first with intro, verse, chorus etc then put in some passing notes and the twiddly bits and you will get the song up and running more quickly than a linear note for note approach. When you get to a live performance the drummer will increase the speed by 20% and all the fancy bits that you practiced will go out the window anyway.

Marillion last night at the London Palladium. Once the sound man had got H's vocal to a level in the mix where you could understand him and sorted out a problem with Pete's bass (what do they do in the sound check?) it was excellent. Every time I see them I want to buy a set of Taurus bass pedals but that would be over kill in a party band?

I used a Rebel 450 with RS210 and RS212 cabs which sounded fantastic. Now that I have invested money in a good PA I don't need so much volume on stage so I have down sized to 2 x Barefaced 110's. I sold the RS210 but still have the RS212 if you are interested. It's in the light grey with a slip cover.

Surely the point of popular music is that it is the soundtrack to everything else that is going on in your life at that time and usually the happy stuff. Listening to it again after a period of time transports you back to that time which revives good memories and therefore a liking for the music. There is usually some historical context to the music when it is first recorded, early Springsteen, early Oasis, early Stones, early Elvis, early Queen were all doing someone new when they started which is the bands gained popularity. Under a Blood Red Sky was a good album for U2 but fame and money change people....... I personally have never understood people raving about Elvis. An important historical icon but hardly the greatest singer in the world. Mind you he did sing in tune (most of the time) which is something that Marc Almond has never managed to achieve! History should not be judged purely by todays standards. Jaco is musician who's contribution to modern bass playing will still be felt by generations to come but musically his solo and most of his band leader output leave me cold.

Posture and strap length. Put you bass on and stand in front of a full length mirror and see if you look natural. If you go to a physio or Osteopath, take you bass with you so that they and see if that is causing your problems. Also if you tend to stand still and play try moving around a bit.

Have a look at the RCF Evox 8 (or 12). I use a pair for a 6 piece covers band playing rock, pop etc. Very impressed with it. N
