  1. When you ask a chippie to build a premium fretless:

  2. Done! Amazing story, amazing family, amazing community ♥️
  3. Another seamless transaction - fast comms, rapid postage and a terrific Broughton HPF. Highly recommended 👍, thanks James
  4. Superb, what a great player - ‘Breaking glass’ and ‘Yassassin’ are two of my fav basslines by anyone. And seems a lovely bloke too!
  5. Doubled on the upright and electric this morning, using a Tonedexter to take a feed from the upright pickup and make it sound like it has been mic’d - but without the rumbling feedback when the congregation sing back at the body of the bass. Worked a charm but I forgot to use the Tonedexter boost to make the pizzicato match the arco level. Two songs on upright, electric for two then back to upright. Swapping worked a lot better than I feared, and the bow quiver helped my ‘quick draw’ 🤠 But most important : our worship lead and team are very helpful, friendly and accommodating, as were the sound team when I bowled up with a carload of kit. I made sure to let them know that the worship itself is the most important, and I would not be precious if asked to just use the (very familiar) electric, but we ended up with a great split between upright for the quieter songs and electric for the rockier. Blessed to be part of such a lovely team 😀
  6. Very fair point- if I (or anyone) spots a famous player coming to the UK, then a good idea to post it on here! Apologies for not thinking of that 🤦‍♂️ And thanks for the bow video: found it here, very entertaining 😁
  7. Christian McBride favours Helicore Hybrids too… Helicore Solos were on my bass when I received it: I was struggling with pizz so swapped them for Spirocores and then Eva weichs, but now I’ve started bowing I’m tempted to refit them!
  8. On my way home from seeing Christian McBride with jazz guitarist (and schoolmate!) Kurt Rosewinkel at London’s Wigmore Hall. I loved it - 90 mins with no break, long solos for each, and a range of jazz standards, salsa, and own work. Astonishing speed and clarity, a master of the fingerboard, and the timing was spot on despite no drummer. Just sad I had to leave on time as he was going to autograph/chat in the lobby afterwards - one of the questions I was going to ask was why he brought a bow and didn’t use it 😁 Any other BCers there tonight..?
  9. Great stuff!! Well recorded too, bass sounds tight
  10. After many years of electric duty I debuted my double for yesterday’s service. Most of the band were away leaving acoustic guitar and keys, so a good chance to try it out… Dreading the feedback monster, I used a dpa4099 mic and Acoustic Image head with polarity reverse, low cut and notch filter. Rehearsal went fine, but in the service itself the dreaded rumble was felt and heard, and I had to mute / unmute a few times to break the cycle. We use IEMs so all I can think is that the congregation singing in the direction of the bass must have hit the resonant frequency and set it off! For the second ‘set’ of two songs I moved the mic from the f-hole (where I would normally place it to record) to over the soundpost, and that solved it. Will definitely bring it again - the soundesk team noticed the lack of sustain and highs when playing pizz vs the electric, but I had some kind comments on the bowing, which was a relief as it was the first time I’d bowed in public!
  11. My bow is a basic model, £150 new - I buffered it with polystyrene in the tube because although ‘technically’ covered by Royal Mail I strongly suspect it would have been a fight to get compensation. I suspect he gets valuable bows in though - may be worth contacting him regarding recommended carriers.
  12. I've just had my bow rehaired by Rob Bray at http://www.braystrings.com/bow-rehair/ , with postage and return via a dedicated cardboard bow tube I bought from thestringzone.com. Fast service and I'm pleased with the coarse-black rehair, and the bow was cleaned too. Recommended!
  13. As an aside, this is surely the first bass with both a '5' and a 'V' in its model number that is not a five string 🤔
  14. Warm Audio WA12 single channel mic and instrument preamplifier. Features 65dB gain, 48v phantom power, polarity reverse, and a ‘tone’ switch between 600 and 150 Ohm impedance. Single XLR mic input, single XLR line out, and Hi-Z 2MΩ TRS input (gorgeous warm tone with my P-bass :). Includes a 24v PSU but no manual. In full working condition. Sorry not looking for trades on this one
  15. Heil PR 40 end-address dynamic mic in ‘champagne’ finish. Excellent mic for double bass recording with solid low frequency response. Only used on a couple of home recordings, selling because my dpa499 can cover the occasional recording as well as live duties. In full working and near mint cosmetic condition, original box, zipper bag and mount included. Sorry not looking for trades this time Sound on Sound review: https://www.soundonsound.com/reviews/heil-sound-pr40
  16. Looks perfect for doubling at pub gigs - i.e. finish the set and it doubles as a cribbage board!
  17. Loved listening to her request show in the 80s, came after the Top 40 and was always miles better (both the music and the chat). Introduced me to loads of new tunes and genres. Thanks and RIP Annie x
  18. Thanks all for checking it out - having listened further, and watched Lee Rocker's lefthand in the video below (starting 1 minute in) I'm going with @jrixn1 - much appreciated! That should be on my tombstone...
  19. Just started to learn Runaway Boys, and I’m hearing this on the opening walk: Eb Db C Bb Ab Gb F E Seems right to me, although various YouTube play throughs / tab sites have it differently. Any thoughts from the Basschat rockabilly crew..? https://youtu.be/SveJCGB09GU?si=AS8PQjTJ3Gq4gJJg
  20. A beauty, and extra kudos for the bottle of dog and proper glass 👍 Too far for me sadly but GLWTS!
  21. Hi, yes - still available: send me a PM for more info. Cheers, Kev
