    Assuming you are gigging venues without PA support, I'd suggest either a fundraiser or mates-only gig down the local. Either ask someone you trust to move around and listen to you from various points, or get a long lead/wireless and get into the audience for one of the numbers. Don't play too well whilst doing this of course, or the crowd will grab and shoulder surf you around, before accidentally dropping you in the Sahara nuts cabinet. 'Loud enough' means you can hear yourself, the band can hear you, and the audience can hear the band (and distinguish the instruments/vocals) ideally from any point in the room. Any of these may involve reducing the volume of other instruments. Clarity wins over volume wars.

    Many thanks for your advice - I have the strings following the radius; as it's a J I can't lower the G E ends of the pup without lowering the whole thing. This Lollar J set seems to have lowered G and E poles, but they are the standard set (i.e. for regular radii) - I'll mail and ask about suitability for 7.25" https://www.thomann.de/gb/lollar_j_bass_4s.htm

    I have a lovely CIJ 62-75US Jazz but would like to try some different pickups. I've seen some makers (e.g. Lindy Fralin) offer staggered D and A poles that claim more even output across strings for fingerboards with a sharper radius (7.25 in this case); does anyone have any experience of the difference between these and regular flat pole? Many thanks!

    Brilliant, thanks very much. I've watched some YT playthroughs but all the tabs are tiny. Where he breaks out of the sixteenths at the end of bar 20...I'm trying to play the D# 's on the A string, as otherwise I find it a big reach and not hitting the notes properly. Or maybe I should work more on stretching, as I've not got small hands... And if that was your video from Brixton, then I was about ten yards from you!

    greenboy Dually cab with 2 x Faital 15PR400 speakers, tiltback handle + casters + skid rails. Fully working. Built March 2016 by Guy at Tricky Audio, excellent build quality. Cosmetically there are some amp feet marks on the top, caster wheels are scuffed but not damaged. A few of the grille holes have a residue mark, possibly a small liquid spray or spill. See photos, I'll try and get it off before sale. Spare touch-up paint included. Amazing cab that, due to a change of band, is far too much for my current needs - I would love to swap it for a greenboy F112 if anyone is in the reverse situation Comes with a Roqsolid cover with side handle cutouts. There is no cutout for the top handle, but you can easily grab it when the cover on for rolling. Collection only unless I see a washing machine box in the neighbour's recycling...     Very bothered - even when I'm just on the home DAW. For our only EP I practiced flat out for two weeks before. Made one blatant mistake on the day; a fumble of a fast 8-note lick that I got right for the other 39 bars it featured. Couldn't get back to re-record it but was not too ashamed at having it copy-and-pasted for that one glitch. Very pleased with the recorded tone too, again a lot of tweaking leading up to the recording during the band practices.

    I love the Bruce Thomas Profile bass from Bass Centre: excellent pickup, very smooth neck finish and the perfect nut width/neck profile for my hands (between a vintage P and J). Only comes in one colour though! Secondhand Fender MIMs are often excellent value and nice and light.

    Botheration!!!! Sod's Law once more - after last year's Rescheduled Mother-In-Law's Birthday Party™ , this year it's Once in a Decade Visit From Far Flung Relatives™ . Gutted to miss you all again - although at least it means you won't need the Deaf Tone Test, whereby I play and you all try and get out of earshot as quickly as possible. Have a great time!

    Very strange. "Timewasting" would agreeing to meet up and then not showing. Whereas photos, provenance and descriptions are useful for any potential buyer, and don't need to be redone each time. I can't understand the seller attitude there. Looks an amazing bass though - I can't recall seeing a reverse split P at the neck before.
