  1. Thanks Bill, much appreciated. With a proper PA (including a dedicated sub) should I still put my bass through the 2x15 and not the PA? Or does the 2x15 become surplus to requirements? It really is a lovely 2x15, hence the question...
  2. My band consists of vox/drums/bass/guitar/harmonica/tenor sax/keyboard. We've been using a humble gear4music PA ('pimped' with a Behringer PMP4000 mixer/amp), except me going through a greenboy 2x15 behind me. It's often been said that the instruments are indistinct when playing pubs/clubs. Any thoughts on the following idea? I add a crossover, and route keys (low), kick/floor tom, tenor sax and the bass into the greenboy, taking low frequency load off the main PA. In which case, what is a sensible crossover frequency to start testing with - the Faital Pro 400s are rated at 35-4KHz? I was thinking 250k, any advice much appreciated Cheers Kev
  3. Love the Bruce Thomas Profile bass! Really lively P, feels very comfortable in hand, and a fantastic bargain - you even get a signed book from the man himself :)

Look good! What width is the nut on these?

Edit: Ignore my last. Blurb says between a P and a J so not what I'm looking for. The Rhythm Stick however, that's a different story...

Not sure if we need to hear the rhythm stick story...

  6. For studio work also consider a quality mic pre with instrument input: I picked up one of these secondhand. The 'gain trim' feature gives superb warmth/grit/fuzz/drive tweaking, plus of course you can use it for a quality vocal take too! https://www.soundonsound.com/reviews/dizengoff-audio-d4
  7. Sold a Limelight P bass to Ian - fast and friendly comms, instant payment and kept me updated after receipt. A thoroughly decent chap and another credit to the Basschat community, would not hesitate to deal with him again! Cheers Ian! Kev
  8. It's always great fun meeting a Basschatter in person to collect or hand over! Cue coffee, bass and bants - usually at a time when we're both supposed to be working 😉
  9. I'm certainly getting won over by the low stage volume/no backline/leave the FOH mix to the FOH approach. Now this begs the question - if you do all this, and onstage tone (which probably only I care about in the band) becomes less important, then what becomes essential? - Bass in tune and intonates well - Active bass has sufficient battery life - Shielding from interference, from bass to mixer - Appropriate signal strength from bass to PA can be achieved without adverse side effects. - A "tone that the sound engineer can work with", i.e. rubbish in rubbish out, don't crank the low bass on an active EQ, etc. - No nasties in the signal (bad fret clank etc.) Once those are covered, bass choice would seem to hinge on playability, setup, weight/balance, and of course colour!
  10. On hold pending the usual - will mark as sold on completion.
  11. I bought Mick's Gator 4U case - rocket fast communications and dispatch, very friendly, and a superb case at a great price! Cheers Mick, great doing business with you
  12. For me would be a 41mm nut, ideally on a Fender C profile neck with 9.5 or greater radius. That's not to say I can't play others - just that that's the one I feel most fluent with.
