  1. Not that I can see - possibly covered in the refinish and/or the copper shielding of the pickup cavity. Routing should be visible in the Flickr album, but let me know if you need any more pics.

The bridge even looks like a bent bit of tin! You could get an amazing Warwick for that £

Thanks for reminding me of Rosicrucians.  I thought they'd all gone.

  2. Ah my mistake - I thought it was posted as an Original 60s with another guard option from Fender. Agreed, it really goes beautifully with the LPB!
  3. I think that's the Standard MIM, because it doesn't appear to have the clay dot markers . My preferred guard colour for a blue bass though
  4. Fully agree - especially with sax, keys and harmonica in our mob.
  5. Odd how 'Original 60s' means '63 C neck shape, and 44mm nut but a fingerboard radius of 9.5" rather than 7.25". I suppose calling them '60s-ish' is less marketable...
  6. Marco bought my Wal MK I - he paid quickly, arranged the courier himself, and kept good communication throughout. Thank you for an easy transaction Marco - a recommened buyer
  7. For sale only: Fender Precision bass, 1964 original with refinish, £3500 Location: Tonbridge, Kent Original neck, has been resprayed Recently refretted Original pickups Original pots Original pickguard, with additional (lovely!) Spitfire tort guard Original nut Original pickup cover, new non-original bridge cover Body refinished in Fiesta Red Non-original Hickox case with some scuffing but works fine. See below for full description Full hi-res Flickr album of 29 photos here: https://www.flickr.com/photos/133089969@N07/albums/72157691387686154/with/27739975739/ Only recently acquired this from Chris of this parish, but try as I may I just can't get on with a 7.25 radius, possibly due to my inherent finger inflexibility! A real shame because it sounds superb and looks terrific: dark Brazilian rosewood board, clay dots, and either the original pickguard or the beautiful tort one Chris sourced (which is included in the sale). An excellent "players' pre-CBS", but I'm very happy with my 9.5 radius custom shop '64' so will move this on at the price I bought it for - it deserves to be played! Nut is 1.75" The original sales thread, and a photo with the included tort guard which I hope Chris doesn't mind me linking to, is here: https://www.basschat.co.uk/topic/313595-fender-precision-1964/ . Since acquiring it I have not gigged it, and have changed the strings to a slightly higher gauge of D'Addario Chrome flats (50-105) to better match the 60s nut, and added a new bridge cover (the original holes were visible beneath the refin, and I measured carefully). I've done a basic setup using a 7.25 radius gauge, and set the Fender-recommended relief and pickup height settings for the period with a StewMac ruler. Truss rod moves freely in both directions. I'm based in Tonbridge, Kent, 20 mins from J5 M25, and you're very welcome to come try it out. My feedback is here: https://www.basschat.co.uk/topic/235157-kevsy71/ Cheers! Kevin
  8. Superb Marc - just the amount of relicing I like there! Love the pups on my Limelight P (00196), I bet yours with the added J sounds terrific
  9. I had Kloppmanns on my old Sandberg VS, lovely pups. This was the demo that persuaded me: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=smEp3NMqNpE GLWTS!
  10. You'll be hard-stretched to find mushy Ps...
  11. This for me - custom shop '64 - neck and tones are exactly to my taste, as is the colour :). I'm trying not to look at the Ken Smith above as 5-string GAS is the last thing I need!
  12. If you try headphones into the combo and aren't happy with the result, a Focusrite Scarlett USB interface into Garageband (or other) using the included modelling amps/compressors is excellent - and you can easily play along to digital music via the same laptop. I've been happy with that practice setup for years - only time I use the amp 'live' at home is for a few loud minutes on a NBD , which I then blame on nearby roadworks.

    Compressor help

Raising the input level has the same effect as lowering the threshold - so it seems like the signal level could be being raised by the FX level dial, and hence triggering compression at a lower threshold than you want. You could try lowering the gain earler on in the channel chain, and/or reducing the ratio, to reduce the compression.

    Compressor help

Yes, could well be! The manual is not very clear on that point: "9) FX 1 LEVEL Controls the level of the effect of channel 1." ...which for the case of the compressor coud be taken as meaning threshold, makeup gain, or blend with dry signal

    Compressor help

Hi la bam - I'm guessing that the fx level knob relates to 'make up gain'... regarding what that means, and also 'ratio' and how all settings interact, best to read 51m0n's excellent blog on compression which is archived here: http://web.archive.org/web/20130215154741/http://blog.basschat.co.uk/setting-up-a-compressor/ Also worth reading this thread discussing compression when playing live: https://www.basschat.co.uk/topic/316618-live-bands-compress-bass-since-when/ Hope that helps!
  16. That looks amazing! I do love a well-worn in 70s maple neck...
  17. Amazing necks, mighty tones, I miss mine!!
  18. Bass Direct has a 3TS RW in over Christmas at £850 - I was sorely tempted but can't justify a fourth P (especially in January!). I've briefly owned a 50s which was great fun to play, and looked brilliant, but make sure you get on with the wide/shallow neck.
  19. ^^ many thanks chaps! Happy 2018 type BUMP
  20. Bet your SG sounds mighty through that setup! Love my V4B, mine's coupled to a Greenboy Dually (2x15), another fine combination.
  21. That's a beauty bagsie - love the inlays! GLWTS
