1. The master list of my favourites slowly evolves, but these three have been on that list for 25+ years: Sonic Youth - Daydream Nation Echo & the Bunnymen - Crocodiles Roxy Music - For Your Pleasure
2. Was there gravy and onions in it? Makes all the difference...
3. We tend to go for recycled bitsas
4. I must try it with Metallica's 'Batter-y' (fetches coat...) Cheers for the link - for a second I though the first picture was Bryan Ferry, with a different hairstyle! I'll give it a go with the thumb and should probably take up smoking for the full effect. But which brand...?
5. Was listening to the first Roxy album, which I've loved for decades, on a meagre MP3 dock whilst making the Sunday roast. I was amazed at how well the bass cut-through, despite the somewhat low-fidelity setup, and the fact that I dropped a Yorkshire pudding on the dock at one point... I think he was an excellent and versatile player, and if you haven't heard it do check it out. Sadly it was his only album as he left shortly afterwards, although of course he was followed by superb work from John Porter, John Gustafson et al. on subsequent albums. Not many photos of him from that time, but looks like he's playing a Gibson EB-3, and I'm guessing with a pick - can anyone confirm that...? Cheers!
6. Hi - it's now on hold again, but thanks for asking.
7. Yes indeed and a big thanks from me - also for HTTPS
8. Back off hold and available again
9. Have any V4-B reissue owners found a decent flight case for it? So far I've only found the Thon SVT case, which is too big, and Castle Case's V4 does not fit the reissue apparently. Any tips welcome!
10. Still on hold but I'll keep the thread updated of any changes.
11. ^^ Thanks! Now ON HOLD
12. For sale only: 1985 Wal MK I Spec: 4-string olive ash facings, Brazilian mahogany core, Indian rosewood fretboard, with original case. Price: £4200 Excellent cosmetic condition, no major marks, there is some rubbing off of the varnish on the back from playing. Lots more hi-res photos here: https://www.flickr.com/photos/133089969@N07/albums/72157688924791651/with/24790981248/ Weight is 10 lbs 6 oz / 4.6 kg Full working order, sounds superb epecially with the new DR Hi Beam 45-105 roundwounds I added. Case works fine, some scratches but all locks and handle work. I'm the second owner having purchased from the original owner in person a few months ago. His original 1985 Bass Centre receipt, matching the serial number, is included. And there's an original Bass Centre sticker on rear of headstock Selling because I've recently acquired a '64 P from a fellow Basschatter and unfortunately can't justify two high value basses! Price is firm because (for better or worse) that's what I paid. Payment: BACS transfer or cash. Feedback in my signature. Trial/collection: Tonbridge, Kent, approx. 20 mins J5 M25. Thanks for looking! Kev
13. Thanks everyone, great tips. I've opted for La Bella 760FS (.45. .65 .85 .105) as my usual 760 FLs were rattling around at the G and D and too low tension - and just don't suit the 7.25 fingerboard radius (at least to my fingertips...). And I agree, the neck seems to like tension! Will report back when they're on tomorrow.
14. Thanks Ikay! That makes sense, I've seen references to Fender F80s on talkbass. Cheers, I'll check that link out.
15. Having scored a wonderful '64 from a fellow BCer, may I ask if anyone knows the string gauges for which the nut would originally have been cut? At a rough guess it seems a light E (.100) and thick G (.50-ish), but any info much appreciated
16. These are fantastic for rapidly switching between a Motown thump, a more open B15 tone or many flavours of SVT. Love mine, GLWTS!
17. Apologies for slow reply! Yes it is.
18. Amen, brother!
19. Thanks for starting/maintaining this list Zilch! I've browsed (but not bought from) Really Great Guitars - seems to be online only. http://www.reallygreatguitars.com/product-category/really-great-guitars/bass/
20. Henry bought my fretless, very easy transaction with fast payment and communication. Cheers Henry!
21. Mwah-type bump
22. There are some mentions over on TalkBass, e.g. https://www.talkbass.com/threads/aguilar-tonehammer-500-vs-db750-video-comparison.1286044/page-3#post-20068676 , which suggests giving Aguilar themselves a shout - they apparently recommended a a black plate RCA in V1.
23. Sold a compressor to Doug; very easy, fast and friendly transaction! Highly recommended, cheers!
