1. Thanks TheGreek - they have the Series 5 manual but not the early XLR one. Looks like I can go in from the side so will give that a go and post the results.
2. I have an early GP11 with the extra XLR input. Whilst the regular jack input works fine, I just get a faint hum when plugging either a Wal or a mic into the XLR. Possibly a loose connection - it's mounted on the front, can anyone please recommend how to access it? Is it simply removing the back and sides of the case, or should I be unscrewing everything from the front (including the EQ sliders)? Many thanks!
3. Brilliant, thank you! All lovely but the Morocco red is my fav
4. These are astonishingly well-built Ps - and the pair of mid/high toggles allow you to flick between Motown and rock grit between songs. And the case is superb, have no fear if gigging with it! GLWTS!
5. I have a GP11 pre into a Behringer iNuke 2-channel power amp - there's a split output on the GP11 (crossover at 250Hz), which I must admit I've not tried in anger, but could allow splitting between e.g.1x15 & 2x10 with each channel. But for now I just bridge it into a Greenboy Dually 2x15, which sounds ace with a Limelight P bass. I'd really like a Trace RA600 for the look, though!
6.
Good news! I found my Capri Orange Now let's hunt down the beautiful Yellow
Lovely! Any chance of a pic of all the basses together please?
7. I sold Miguel an Xotic XP-1T (from the UK to Spain) - Miguel was very communicative throughout, payment was made quickly, and I received a lovely thank you email when it arrived! UK sellers can deal with confidence, gracias Miguel! Kev
8. I sold Mike a Noble preamp and it was a perfect transaction: friendly, communicative and fast payment. Highly recommended, many thanks Mike
9. Now sold, thanks for all the interest
10. Superb, congratulations Rob! Bet it sounds as good as it looks... (Incidentally, whenever I drive my cats to the vet I crawl along, avoiding sharp steering and speed bumps - if I was collecting one of these Wals I'd probably hire a guy with a red flag to walk in front of the car )
11. *SOLD* For sale only: Noble Preamp, £800. No trades thanks One of these: http://nobleamps.com/preamps/ - a gorgeous valve preamp, Jensen DI and power supply for your pedals. This one has 5 9v and one 12v power outputs - I use the 12v for a Markbass Compressore valve compressor, which is also for sale. Reviews: Basschat thread here: http://basschat.co.u...-any-bc-owners/ including a great review and clips from TKenrick http://basschat.co.u...ost__p__3251582 . Plus some clips from me if you dare! Also well-reviewed loads on Talkbass. Condition: Fully working, gigged twice for a total of four hours. Excellent cosmetic condition. I've added a velcro strip for stability but can remove that (carefully!) if you like. Bought in January 2017, and comes with a ten-year transferable warranty. I found Jack Roan, the Noble owner and manufacturer, to be an absolute gentleman and very easy to deal with. Also comes with the power lead, power patch leads for pedals, owner's leaflet, box, stickers Selling because: It's all hands to the pump for my dream bass acquisition! More photos here: https://www.flickr.c...157683421550494 Where it be: Tonbridge, Kent, approx 20 mins from J5 M25. Collection/trial fine. Delivery: Insured courier at cost, I have the original box and delivery box/packaging.
12.
My fear is that you may be right. Fortunately the new Elf is very reasonably priced so, at worst, I've bought a cheap, small home amp.
Indeed, and tbh I'd consider it for that. But I just wouldn't trust it to stay in place for a gig, even my Bass Terror at approx. 5Kg gave me cause to panic a few times when movement caused it to creep to the cab edge...
13. Dan that's brilliant news! Really glad they sorted it.
14. **NOW SOLD, MANY THANKS** Forsale only: Xotic XP-1T in full working order and very good cosmetic condition. Superb build quality and tonal variety. Price: £1100 No trades this time thanks Specifications: As per the spec sheet, except the current strings are Fender Nickle Steel rounds. Playing condition: Full working order, no issues. Cosmetic condition: Generally excellent, a small scuff on side of fretboard (see pic) and a tiny scratch on the back side of the right horn which I struggled to capture on camera. Some small light marks on the headstock. Minor scuffing on pickguard, only visible to me when I hold it up to the light. One of the back control cavity screws was missing so I replaced it, albeit with a chrome screw rather than black. Full picture gallery here: https://www.flickr.c...157683765226361 How it performs: Classic P growl and thump of course, but with the active 18V preamp and mid/treble dip switches you have a huge variety at your fingertips. The string-through option really does make a difference here! More bite and sustain The build quality is sheer class, from the rock solid bridge and tuners, tight neck pocket and bolts and those lovely wooden pup covers....and the luminous fingerboard and side dot markers really help on a dark stage! Width at nut: 41 mm. Weight: A touch over 4.1 Kg according to the usual kitchen/bathroom scales average. Comes with: An Xotic gig bag so good and multi-pocketed that you could probably live in it for a temporary period. Tough as boots and has some marking to show it (see pics) but all zips attached and working. Strung with Fender nickle rounds and I will provide some flats as well (not sure of the brand but they're nice) History: It has Basschat previous! My purchase here: http://basschat.co.u...tic-xp-1t-sold/ ...and it also appears here: http://basschat.co.u...precision-bass/ I've gigged it three times since purchase. Reason for sale: GAS for THE big one for me, and it's all hands to the pump unfortunately - and this is far too good for backup Where it be: Tonbridge, Kent, approx. 20 mins from J5 M25. Collection/trial welcome. Postage: Say £25 insured for UK but I'll refund any difference following quote. I always pack very carefully Feedback in my signature. Cheers! Kev

16.
£2301. Blimey. Hopefully it won't need a new neck or anything major! Was the buyer a BC'er, I wonder?
Yikes! I was considering bidding and asked Wal regarding restoration and they sent a very detailed response. As you suggest major neck work would be the significant expense, and also uncertainty that the electronics worked (notwithstanding the failed pots). And it seems likely that it was a replacement (non-JG) neck. I wasn't prepared to take a chance on extra expense/wait for servicing - but congrats to the winner, hope there's nothing major wrong and they are enjoying it soon
17.
For those of us not in the know, what is a Wal JG bass and how do they differ from a "normal" Wal?
Head over to Trevor Raggatt's excellent Wal history site for details on the JG, but also (as Chris says above) the Pro IIe, which is what this appears to be despite the JG serial: http://walbasshistory.blogspot.co.uk/p/blog-page_9226.html . The Pro IIe preceded the custom Wal and has a different preamp, without the custom's low-pass filters, but does include various boost functions. The Facebook link in the second post also has commentary from experts, and that group also has a post on another late-serial JG which is the same Pro IIe spec.
18. BTW there's some good answers (thanks Trevor!) on the same question that I posted to the Facebook Wal group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/2413094311/permalink/10155525332639312/?comment_id=10155525492604312&notif_t=group_comment&notif_id=1498836461940145
19. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Wal-4-String-Black-Bass-Guitar-/222563875003?hash=item33d1d738bb:g:kMIAAOSwjRpZVTQX Has a JG serial number (1152 out of 1153), but with what appears to be Pro IIe controls, and a custom-style headstock logo. I can't see anything quite like it on the Wal History site, any thoughts welcome!
20. Wonderful service from Geoff - he kindly agreed to a courier pickup for a Trace GP11 pre, excellent communications throughout - including a photo of the package pending pickup! - and very well packed indeed. Top marks, many thanks Geoff!
21. I sold a Limelight Jazz to Mick: very easy transaction, friendly guy and UK sellers can deal with confidence (he is based in Frankfurt). Welcome to the world of the Basschat marketplace Mick!
22. Bought a Vintage Fretless off Chris: absolute bargain, clearly looked after and very well packaged. Cheers Chris!
23. Brilliant! Our singer Doug Sutherland lives in Riding Lane now, very short commute for him Cheers! Kev
