Being a blinkered metal fan of the 80s I loathed slap - until I saw this. http://youtu.be/3WTF42N8dAw I can blag a passable version of it, but really need to give time to the terrific Scott Devine tutorials (especially 'Hair'!)

Hi Keith - what was the setup at the venue, was it floor or hollow stage? I've noticed a big difference between 2x112s at home and on a stage...also (maybe my hearing) but competing with the other 6 in our band, I've been unhappy with the stage sound, but have been told it was loud, clear and sizzling out front. Maybe try cutting the bass and increasing high mids and treble when your at battle volume, or DIing to PA and just have high mids/highs through the PA and staying flat for your stage setup. Cheers from another '71! Kev

I loved my old GP7SM 130 combo, especially when paired with a TE 2x10. I once went for a practice in the garage, only to find one of my cats stuck to the cab's carpet from clawing it! They hadn't accounted for that frequency on the EQ, I can tell you

Best D class amp for my P bass ... please read on it's more complicated!
Kevsy71 replied to Mr Fudge's topic in Amps and Cabs
Class D: If you see a Tecamp Puma in the Basschat classifieds, then they are well worth a try. I gigged mine with a P and just a twiddle of the 'Taste' control got me from Motown thump to rock grit very nicely. -

For sale: 1979 Fender Precision bass , £900 No trades thanks About the bass: Fender Precision Bass, 1979, in Olympic White nitro refinish, purchased from fellow Basschatter Roland Rock (original sales thread here: http://basschat.co.u...__fromsearch__1 ) Weight is a meaty 11.28 lbs, but it balances very well - I've played two hour gigs with no fatigue (well, not on the shoulders, at least!) 41mm at nut Since I bought it: The bass has been gigged approx. 5 times, with some minor scuffs added (see 'cosmetic condition' below). I swapped out the original pickups and wiring loom for Fender Original Precision Bass pups, CTS pots and Switchcraft jack. The original pickups, pots, loom, knobs and thumbrest are also included in case you want to swap them back. Playing condition: Full working order, new pots make the pups very responsive to tone changes. The maple neck is beautifully played in, fastest Precision neck I've used. Heard to good* effect here: (*'good' here means the tone, not necessarily my playing ) Cosmetic condition Some horn scuffs, a scuff halfway down the pickguard side edge and a small scuff on the back. Edges of fingerboard have 'ring rash' which has worn off the edge varnish. See the hi-res Flickr album which also includes shots of the original loom and pickups: https://www.flickr.c...157676876673595 Selling because Need to pay for car repair - and Christmas! Comes with Non-original hardcase (Thomann) Location, trial, payment, collection and postage Trial welcome, I'm 15 mins from J5 M25 in Tonbridge, Kent. I have a Greenboy Dually 2x15 plus Fender Bassman and Orange Bass Terror heads, or bring your own. Payment by cash on collection or bank transfer.
Nice pair! What month is the 4001? Notice it's sporting the 1-inch spaced neck pup - from memory, this occurred mid-75.
Cheers! April '75. I have no idea if that's the correct spacing though, the original (oversized?!) pickguard is long gone. Looking at the neck pickup cavity it could have originally been closer to the end of the fingerboard. The P is a '79 from Basschat, fantastic tone

'75 4001 and a black guard P here - but on an Oly White

Not used them on a Squier, but my old MIM P (2005 I think) was fine with the heavy gauge La Bella '54 set.

We've played to a full set to nobody at an in-pub beer festival. To be fair, two people wandered in at one point and realised they were at the wrong pub, and we did get a dad and his two kids dancing for our self-initiated encore. But otherwise nobody in a decent sized room, and we got free beer and paid, despite actually feeling sorry for the pub and saying the free beer was enough!

What was the first bass you had GAS for?
Kevsy71 replied to ianrendall's topic in General Discussion
Back to '84 for a 4001 for the Lemmy & Cliff association. Probably the last time I GASsed because of the players rather than the bass (or look of the bass ) -
Far too many candidates to list, but if I had to choose one, it would be buying a £40 Boss Compressor c. 1986, to use through a cheapie 10 Watt practice combo. With, shall we say, 'less than noticeable' results.

Bought an MXR pedal, very fast service and communication, and just as described! Thanks for the faultless transaction Richard.
