1.
+1 on the Bronco. I loved mine from years back but sadly it had an unfortunate episode with a flight of stairs.
+2 ! My son has one and I keep borrowing it for fun.
2. With the arrival of my Greenboy 2x15 its time to move on my two Baer ML112s with padded covers. Review See the Bass Gear review on the Bass Gear magazine website, http://epublish.pana...ation/?i=135014 or archived here: http://www.bassdirec...lification.html History and condition Both cabs were bought new from Bass Direct, and are the first generation model. They have been gigged locally approx. 15 times, but well looked after. The speakers are the originals and work perfectly. There are no rips, cracks or loose points in the Tolex - it's an excellent tough Tolex and fitting job . The handles look fine, and are fully attached. The covers are lightly marked (see pics) but I will see if the marks will sponge off. The covers have no rips. Cabinet feet are all sound, the grilles on both cabs are firmly in place, and the back panel connection points are unmarked and tight. Speaker configuration is 12" + 6", 350w at 8 Ohms. Picture album at: https://www.flickr.c...157661701179645 Reason for sale My band plays strictly Motown and blues, and whilst they can handle the material well they are really voiced for rock (Geddy and Chris Squire were apparently the key influences on Roger Baer's design), and cut through beautifully. Postage/collection/payment I have the original tough Baer cardboard boxes for postage. Courier will be £25 mainland UK. You are of course welcome to come and trial them, I'm in Tonbridge, Kent. Payment either by BACS transfer or cash on collection.
3.
That head would be cool recovered with the green material! Can I use the word 'heft'?
Guy kindly provided spare green paint - it is tempting!
4. Just taken delivery of a Greenboy Dually 215, with 2 x Faital 15PR400s and a custom green paintjob, from Tricky Audio. Here it is with its new Fender buddies. Sounds lovely, although not yet tested at battle volume so will report back following first practice session. A doddle to move with meaty handles and casters. Big thanks to Guy from Tricky Audio!
5.
Smashing Pumpkins - Mellon Collie. Stunning.
Indeed - although that was a triple album, with each side being themed - the running order was different to the CD to match these themes (and the LP had two extra tracks). Edit: come to think of it, it was a 2xCD, and a triple LP - so either a double or triple album!
6.
Also maybe im being picky here but guns n roses illusion albums were released as two seperate albums rather than a double album.
They were both released as double albums - I remember stacking the shelves at HMV with them: https://www.discogs.com/Guns-N-Roses-Use-Your-Illusion-I/master/9536 https://www.discogs.com/Guns-N-Roses-Use-Your-Illusion-II/master/9586
7.
Oooooh Life:Live over Live And Dangerous? Controversial.
Do you know, I'm ashamed to say I've never heard Live & Dangerous. Trevor you've encouraged me to sort that out forthwith...my love of Life:live may be down to having nothing to compare it to!
Neither count: no live albums and compilations allowed.
Note to self: read rules, especially rules 1 & 2
8. Works: Sonic Youth, "Daydream nation". Has to be heard start to finish. Even the sprawly parts like, erm, 'The Sprawl', work in the full context, especially with the bizarre voicemail-with-piano track Providence splitting the two parts. And an amazing three-part song ending. Minutemen, 'Double nickels on the dime'. My favourite double album cover and title, and packed with lots of nuggets that are short enough to leave you wanting more of each. Huge variety. Plus Out of the Blue as mentioned above, I still have the cardboard spaceship on a spire! Live doubles: Space Ritual - love the Michael Moorcock spiel, Ramones "It's alive!" and Thin Lizzy's Life:live - I don't care if it's overdubbed, it's superb. Don't work: For bands that I like it's just a case of too much filler, like Tom Wait's Real Gone, Songs in the Key of Life etc. But they would have made very good single LPs.
9. 20 song set in local pub, which had a concurrent party going on but nobody seemed to mind - in fact one of their toddlers got up and danced by the monitors which made us all grin First time with a dep drummer who was excellent - funny thing was I've seen his band before who are tight as a gnat's, and he's been playing with his bassist for over 20 years - so they are telepathic, and maybe share a raised eyebrow to communicate. Whereas I must have looked like I was in a gurning contest with all the unsubtle signals! Worked very well though. Also delighted that my soldering job on the 79 p bass was up to scratch, new pickups were mighty. Bit of fart on E string, with the master on the Tec Amp Puma at max, but playing nearer the neck and not over the pups cured that. And we were given delicious buffet food and beer afterwards, so happy bunnies all round.
10. Looking at this from another angle: we're in the fortunate position whereby our pub audience is so small, we can simply give each of them IEMs. Voilà - no bulky PA speakers!
11. About to wire in some Fender 'original '62 bass pickup' reissues. The diagram with the pups is: Close up: So to my eyes the cap is going lug-to-lug between the volume and tone pots. I've only seen the cap go from lug to tone pot top (and ground) - so is the diagram correct? Stewmac also has a lug-to-lug cap, but additionally has the cap soldered to the vol pot top to ground, and uses different lugs: I think there's a mistake in this one too - white is hot and black is ground, according to the text , so surely the connections from the lower two lugs from V in the diagram should be white? All advice much appreciated!
12.
The BF-3 actually seems very close to what I'm after. Never considered a flanger before but that seems to retain depth (low-pass on the bass input right?) and still sounds phaseresque on the top end.
Yes, the effect only processes the highs, which are then blended with the uneffected lows for the output signal.
13.
In the interests of keeping the original loom intact, I'd leave the earth wire attached and check how it is attached at the bridge end before doing anything. With a bit of luck there won't be a solder connection there and you'll just be able to pull the earth wire through into the control cavity, and then replace it with a new one to go with your new pickup and controls.
Thanks, good suggestion.
14.
If I was doing that I'd put in a new bridge earthing wire. Is the original even soldered to the bridge plate or just trapped between it and the body?
The bridge ground wire is in pretty good nick so I was just going to solder the end to the new volume pot. There was no buzzing before so I assume there is contact with the bridge (in fact where they even soldered originally)?
15. Some 21st century 'heavy blues' from Clutch: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UAHO-trROm8
16. I had the MXR 'script' phaser but it seemed to lose the bottom end (at least from a couple of feet away). I now use a Boss BF-3 Flanger because it has the 'bass input' (i.e. effect operates at hi-pass keeping bass clean), and with a slow sweep sounds phaser-ish enough. Although to be fair this is at the local Dog & Duck where most punters can't tell the difference between sax and harmonica, let alone bass flange v phase.
17. I'm about to do something similar on my 79 P. I'm replacing pickups, pots, cap and jack; and keeping the originals joined together with their original solder and wire for provenance. All that is lost is the original connection to the bridge ground wire.
18. I sold James a Focusrite 2i2 - very easy transaction and a pleasure to deal with
19. Thanks all, makes good sense and I'll give that a go. Any excuse for a cocktail (which I promise I will drink *after* the procedure)
20. At last night's gig the bottom strap screw came out (thankfully after the set) of my Precision, and won't 'bite' anymore when I try to screw it back in. Any tips? It's a lovely original Fender 79 P, so I don't want to risk damaging it. Cheers!
21. Thanks TPTroll - I'll also check out the Ishibashi site as I do like Alder
22.
I've just received one of the Fender Japan Classic Exclusive 50's P basses (will post pics shortly), which is exclusive to Japan, but part of this new range they're doing. There are only 2 of the basses from the range they're selling in the UK, the ones you mention. I ordered mine through Ishibashi.
Very tempting! Please could you post a link to the two they sell to the UK if you get a chance?
23. Oh, I was thinking 'warm vintage' as Motown - but yes, you're right, the Puma and Shuttle won't add much warm grit. +1 for the VT21 or a Sansamp in front of the amp.
