Some 21st century 'heavy blues' from Clutch: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UAHO-trROm8

I had the MXR 'script' phaser but it seemed to lose the bottom end (at least from a couple of feet away). I now use a Boss BF-3 Flanger because it has the 'bass input' (i.e. effect operates at hi-pass keeping bass clean), and with a slow sweep sounds phaser-ish enough. Although to be fair this is at the local Dog & Duck where most punters can't tell the difference between sax and harmonica, let alone bass flange v phase.

I'm about to do something similar on my 79 P. I'm replacing pickups, pots, cap and jack; and keeping the originals joined together with their original solder and wire for provenance. All that is lost is the original connection to the bridge ground wire.

I sold James a Focusrite 2i2 - very easy transaction and a pleasure to deal with

Thanks all, makes good sense and I'll give that a go. Any excuse for a cocktail (which I promise I will drink *after* the procedure)

At last night's gig the bottom strap screw came out (thankfully after the set) of my Precision, and won't 'bite' anymore when I try to screw it back in. Any tips? It's a lovely original Fender 79 P, so I don't want to risk damaging it. Cheers!

Thanks TPTroll - I'll also check out the Ishibashi site as I do like Alder
I've just received one of the Fender Japan Classic Exclusive 50's P basses (will post pics shortly), which is exclusive to Japan, but part of this new range they're doing. There are only 2 of the basses from the range they're selling in the UK, the ones you mention. I ordered mine through Ishibashi.
Very tempting! Please could you post a link to the two they sell to the UK if you get a chance?

Oh, I was thinking 'warm vintage' as Motown - but yes, you're right, the Puma and Shuttle won't add much warm grit. +1 for the VT21 or a Sansamp in front of the amp.
-
Just to add the TecAmp Puma, which cuts the mustard in my blues rock covers outfit.

Have a mooch in the Amps and Cabs for sale forum here: some cracking bargains from people who look after their kit. The only solid state heads I've owned could suit you: TecAmp Puma range, Genz Benz Shuttle range, and the Aguilar Tone Hammer. Something with an adjustable mids frequency range (aka semi parametric) will help. And of course your choice of cab! If you can make one of the Basschat bass bashes, or the London bass show, you can try a few out. Good luck!
You know, I`ve listened to a lot on the radio today about Lemmy, all from fans, all calling in with their own personal tales of how they`ve met him etc, and the thing that has really come across is what a nice, down to earth guy he was. Sure he may have lived rock n roll, but it obviously didn`t stop him from being a thoroughly decent fella. And having read books by celebs as well, they`ve only ever had the same to say.
Amen. I went to the Motörhead 15th anniversary show for the fanclub in 1989. Lemmy was at the bar afterwards, flanked by a pair of young ladies. He could have cheerfully ignored a scrawny twerp in a Batman T-shirt and afro (I could never grow proper metal hair) but he took the interruption gracefully, said thanks for coming and shook my hand with a smile. He was the reason I took up bass, and why my first bass was an Arbiter faker. RIP.
I had one of these for a while and they are very cool amps. I was running it with 2 Berg HD112's which are both 8 Ohms and it sounded immense, just use a speaker lead to connect the head to one cab then use the through on the back of one of the speakers to link it to the other with another speaker lead and you are good to go.
+1, I run 2 x Baer ML112s (each 8 Ohm) with the same setup. The Puma 900 is a terrific lightweight head, especially the 'taste' knob which allows a quick dial-in between raw and tubby tone on stage.

For sale only: ACG Über ART Recurve 4, £2000 Location: Tonbridge, Kent With a heavy heart I'm having to put up my pride and joy in order to finish off our building works. For maximum irony all the photos are in the incomplete extension that this sale would fund...but at least the floor matches! More photos https://www.flickr.c...157661780372199 . Click on each photo to get a high resolution version. Bass details Maple burl top on white limba body, with Acrylic Resin Treatment (ART) in Aqua Blue 5 piece wenga neck with satin finish on back and maple pinstripe, and Luminlay markers ART Maple burl fingerboard in Aqua Blue Strung with DR Sunbeams 105 85 65 45 Pickups and electronics ACG DFM pre-amp (see http://www.acguitars...es/electronics/ ACG MC4 multi-coil pickups (see 'MC series pickups' at http://www.acguitars...basses/pickups/) Jack and XLR outputs History I am the original owner, although the bass was demoed at shows (and tried by a few Basschatters apparently!). Gigged 4 times and treated very carefully. Condition Full working order. Cosmetically no dings, marks etc. When I bought the bass, Alan reduced the price due to a small blemish in the finish in the red coloured section between the end of the neck and the neck pickup (see photos). This blemish was caused by some solvent coming through the finish from the acrylic impregnated top. It caused a film to appear on the finish which was easily wiped off and now appears to have stopped, and can only be seen with the bass held up to the light and at a specific angle. I also swapped the pole pieces and pickup mounts for 'gold' screws, following consultation with Alan and Kent Armstrong: the pole pieces are the same size M5 bolts but I sprayed the ends with gold paint (obviously not when they were in the bass!). The original black screws are included, there is no difference to the sound, just aesthetics, so you can choose. Comes with Original lockable Hiscox hard case, with a couple of marks but no dents Dunlop straplocks - I never put these on but they are included Luminlay LED torch Sound Amazing versatility from the two low-pass filter pickups with master blend, and the configurable lo-mid and mid/high boosts, plus pots to vary the amount of highs and mids. I've played Motown through to rock with quick on-stage adjustments of the pre. The XLR is useful too, and I used it as the input direct to a Crest CA9 power amp for a very pure signal. Payment etc. BACS transfer or cash on collection please. I will courier if we can mutually agree on a service that will be high quality and guarantee musical instruments, and I will pack very carefully. My feedback is in my signature. Try out You are very welcome to come and try out, I can provide amp and cabs or bring your own. The kettle is not always on, since that would be a major fire risk and hugely expensive, but I will happily make a brew once you're here... Finally... I'd like to say that Alan Cringean was excellent throughout the sales process and even if this particular ACG may not be for you I would strongly recommend his work and service.

Was messed around last week by Interparcel/UPS - delivery did not occur on the day stated, despite guaranteed premium service. But just to say, Interparcel were good and responsive on Twitter, which seems by far the best way to raise a customer complaint in public. Just state that the delivery is late and then they will get in touch via direct message so you don't share sensitive details. I was then phoned by UPS - had to put my foot down as they were a bit vague - and all was well. The packaging (by a fellow basschatter) was superb so the extra day in the van meant no ill effects!
-
Bought Chris's superb 79 Precision, a very easy transaction, made simpler by the excellent description. The packaging was outstanding too, highly recommended - cheers to a top chap!

Not helping my DB GAS!!! Very well played - and props for suit and tie, which should be mandatory
Cool! I do like Indian food by the way… ;-)
Not quite curry, but one of my favourite ever meals was a Dutch Indonesian rijsttafel in Amsterdam - amazing variety! Back on topic: I stack my Baer ML112s as per photo 1 and it seems to give the best room coverage with a meaty low end. Can be a bit harder to hear the stack from the stage that way (we're a noisy 7-piece) so I run the high end through a wedge floor monitor.
