Eden WT550 well worth considering too - very flexible EQ especially around the all important mids. This is mine in a 7-piece band - just a tweak on the passive P tone control to go from the blues to rock numbers: https://soundcloud.com/the_expandables/sets/live-march-2014
+ 1 Just a thought, but how many of us double as the bands sound man? I do in our band, how many more?
Yep, me too! I have the mixer next to me throughout the set for monitor tweaks. And I send a bit of upper frequency DI to the PA, in case the amp dies I can bring in the rest of the bass quickly.

Set from our 1st March gig at the Padwell pub, stone street, Kent. https://soundcloud.com/the_expandables/sets/live-march-2014 That's a Sandberg California VS P-bass with Klopmann PB63 pickups through an Eden WT550 and single Baer ML112 (plus a touch of DI). Recorded with a Tascam DR-05 recorder.

Mix of classic and hard rock from Cabin Fever and then rock rhythm and blues from my Expändables! There's a BBQ as well plus some good beers on tap. Say hello if you come, I'll be playing a Sandberg California (P) through at least one Baer ML112

Flyfisher, Dincz - thanks very much for the detailed walkthrough, that explains it! Much appreciated

Please could anyone help me get my head around the theory of input vs output impedance? I've read that the output impedance of passive pickups (about 10kΩ, but varying with frequency) is best coupled to an input impedance of at least 1:10 ratio. In my case my p-bass plugs into a Boss TU-3 tuner with (I think, based on the TU-2) 1 mΩ input impedance / 1kΩ output impedance, and then onto the head, and true enough the bass sounds 'fuller' than with my previous effects chain arrangement. So my question... If the input impedance represents the load 'seen' by whatever is plugging into it, surely a higher input impedance means a higher load. Given that impedance is resistance (more or less), why does this allow more of the bass signal through - I would have thought it would have allowed less? I'm guessing the answer has something to do with increased difference in electric potential, but any advice appreciated! Cheers Kev
What are the necks like on these? Are they like Stingrays & Big Al's? I never get on with MM necks, but have always wanted to try a Bongo...
I've not played a Stingray or Big Al so in all honesty cannot say - but looking at a couple of Talkbass threads it appears that Bongo neck is 'different' to the other EBMM basses, at least. Sorry I can't be more helpful

**SOLD** For sale, used 2005 Music Man Bongo 4HH in black with graphite pearloid pickguard, including a custom leather strap that was created from an image of the pickguard pattern. Slideshow of images here: http://www.flickr.co...439046199/show/ In full working order - gigged once (in the hard case!). Now that my band is only playing Motown and blues, the Sandberg VS is getting all the playtime because of its custom PB63 pickups suiting the material better. Excellent neck with a rock solid bridge and tuners. Very easy action adjustment via the truss rod wheel and bridge saddles. Wear and tear: Some chipping on the edge of the fingerboard , a chip on the bottom front near the strap lock, and a thin scuff on the front of the headstock (see photos) Comes with original Music Man hard/plush case (some scratches on outside, see photo slideshow), the case key, cleaning cloth, a wiring schematic and an Ernie Ball sticker. Strung with Ernie Ball Hybrid Slinkys. £725 couriered in the UK - I will use Aylesford couriers who are near me and have been recommended on the Courier thread. The bass in the Sandberg's cardboard box, with plenty of bubble wrap. Or £700 of you want to pick up, I'm 15 mins from J5 M25. Payment via bank transfer, or PayPal (buyer pays fees). Thanks for looking and please let me know any questions. EDIT: corrected which motorway I live near - M25 not M2%!

Can I run passive monitors on this setup?
Kevsy71 replied to Kevsy71's topic in Accessories and Misc
Just an update on this: we ran both monitors active in the end off the mono aux mixer feed, and it worked fine - as suggested above it meant the sax/harp/piano/vocals could be mixed independently for the monitor feed. Thanks again for the advice! -
My California VS, in 3TS with matching headstock and 'gold' hardware, extra pimped with 'gold' bell. Klopmann PB 63 pickups. Can I run passive monitors on this setup?
Kevsy71 replied to Kevsy71's topic in Accessories and Misc
Thanks for all the advice! Will daisy chain from the speaker outs....and if that's not cutting it will look into active as Truckstop suggests. Cheers! -
Morning all, With this mixer: http://www.gear4music.com/PA-DJ-and-Lighting/MIX04AU-8-Channel-Mini-Mixer-with-USB-by-Gear4music/I7D and this power amp: http://www.djsuperstore.co.uk/QTX-Pro1000-Black ...will I be able to run two passive monitors in addition to the two PA speakers? For example if I use the power amp speakon outputs for the PA speakers, and jack outputs for the monitors (or vice versa)? Many thanks!

Thanks all! Just hoping it's not going to be rained off...

Cheers Steve !
I got to the gig and found I'd left my bass at home!
If that's the worst that happens I'll be fine, as I live round the corner

Playing our drummer's anniversary party tomorrow, a five song set! First time I've played live, but at least it's to a non-hostile audience (well, until we start that is...). Only worry is the weather as we will be outdoors- so we may have to make an impromptu Knebworth using gazebos... Band name is The Expändables , will try to record and post the set here: https://www.facebook.com/ExpandablesUK
