1. I have its close cousin, the TRB5 and I suspect it'll be buried with me..... G.
2. +1 for the DiMarzio Model J wired (internally) in series. The Model J is, effectively, a P pup but in a straight line - not offset (i.e. 2 separate coils for humbucking purposes) and being wired in series, it's the same as a P. The series wiring is default, I believe, so get hold of one & bung it in (or get it bunged in - 2 soldering points.). G.
3. I might take 2 off you, PM me your address & I'll get back to you. G.
4. Me in Glasgow area (I'm in North Lanarkshire). I'll do tweaks on setup & electrics - I don't do woodwork, frets or paint. G.
5. An awful lot of repetetive lyrics in the last show. G.
6. Artec? https://www.thomann.de/gb/artec_power_brick.htm I have one of these & it does the job. G.
7. Maybe *you* don't Mate! G.
8. Alan's work is superb - I played a few at the Moffat Bash, but I'm uncomfortable with flat fingerboards (over & above the fact it's a 4). G.
9. Pity this is a 4 - if it were 5 I'd have it on my lap now!! Have a bump! G.
10.
Fretless 5er with humbuckers. I'm automatically going to say Ibanez SR, you should be able to find a very nice used high-end example for your budget. The skinny necks are a bit marmite for some though.
Hadn't really thought of those, Jon, so I must have a look. Wonder if there's any in Guitar Guitar in Glasgow....... Hmmmm. G.
11. I've played the Squier and it felt very good. My objection is with the lined ebanol fingerboard. And I'm not sure the side dots are in the correct fretless places. G.
12.
Looking at the Elwood Europe, 1600 euros is a big chunk more...... G.
Having said that, it's absolutely right. G.
13. I was hoping for something constructive.... G.
14.
Look out for any used Maruszczyk instruments coming up. However, I've not seen many fretless ones... For a wee bit more, you could have one made to your specs. That's what I plan to do following my recent "significant" birthday (50th) and once funds become available... 15. I have a significant birthday coming up (70). I'm playing jams & open mics quite a lot and I've just been asked by an up-and-coming Indie band to work with them. So I'd like to treat myself to a better fretless bass. I have a Yamaha BBG5A that The Bass Doc took off the fretted fingerboard & put on a lovely piece of ebony. It plays & sounds great since I replaced the single coils with the 'buckers off an RBX375, but it's still a cheap guitar, I'd like something similar with a bit more quality. Here's a pic before the ebony fingerboard was fitted: I need: 5 string. Buckers (2) no lines on fingerboard. Dots in proper fretless positions. Active with a decent pre-amp. 34" scale. Decent quality. I'm prepared to spend a max of £650. Suggestions? G.
16. It's all about rigidity. G.
17. Well, I'm coming up towards my 70th, and I've just been asked to join a local-ish band doing original stuff, so we'll see in a few months.... G.
18. I'm another Geddy Lee. I wouldn't have answered half the questions with any of the options provided. G.
19. If the pup is a 4 conductor & wired in parallel, you could try wiring it in series. It may not sound so trebley and it'll have a bundle more mids. G.
20.
Occurs to me that we were talking about exactly the same bass as I traded it off you! And it was 15mm!
I think you're right!! G.
21. Try DiMarzio Model J's wired internally in parallel. G.
22.
Yes, I do like Hohners! That might well have been a contender, I think. Do you know what the string spacing/neck width is? I recall yours is a 6er? BTW I ended up splashing out on the Sterling 5er that was advertised on here. After all, it is only money.
Mine was a 5er. If I recall, ther string spacing at the bridge was on the neat side of 16mm - maybe even less. Nice through neck, and decent Jazz-type sound. Pre-amp was ok too. G.
23. Actually, the pickups on Yamaha basses are a bit of an odd size, being a wee bit longer than most - you might not find pups of the exact size you need. G.
24. No one's mentioned the Hohner B Bass yet (since you like Hohners). G.
