1. It's pretty much a G5A (I've got one) except for (1) the pickups are Jazz - mine has soalbars which are, effectively, P-types in the shell. (2) the pots are in a curve, whereas mine are in a diamond). G.
2. I got this (5 string) off Ebay a while back. The EADGs were fine, the Bs were as dead as dodo. There's another thread about this somewhere. http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...=hartke+strings OK if you play 4s I suppose. G.
3.
is there any peavey gurus here, I have a peavy cirrus five, there is one in the for sale section here, although that one looks similar to mine, the difference is that the one for sale here is that my one has five control nobs the one for sale has four and a toggle switch, did they change or is ther another reason thanks in advance for any info cheers stef
That's my Cirrus V BXP for sale. The pan knob was replaced as it didn't really work as a pan - it was either on or off - the transition was quite sudden seemingly, & the owner decided he'd do just as well with the switch. As mentioned in the ad, I have the original pan switch & an all-but-identical knob which I will supply with the instrument along with a new & unused pan switch should the new owner wish to go back to the original control configuration. PS Why didn't you just PM me? Geoff
4. MMmmmm. Short-scale Musician (effectively) - interesting, but sadly, no money (not that much anyway!). G.
5. I put an 18V JE U-Retro in my originally passive Yammy BB415 - already had a big output - and now the output is huge. It's controllable by turning down the gain on my MAG, but I use it through a couple of specially prepared channels on my Digitech GNX1 on which I have the gain turned down to about 20% & the tone levels set flat. This works just fine into the MAG. You could try going into some kind of pre-amp yourself. As for 5ers, I didn't get on with my first, a Yammy RBX375 - although I loved the tone the fretboard was too wide for my smallish hands & caused pain between the thumb & forefinger of my left hand. I moved to a Hohner B Bass V & later to a Cirrus V BXP, both of which have narrower string spacing (10mm nut & 16mm bridge). Since then I have been playing the BB415 which has more like a jazz-style neck, being 10mm at the nut & 19 at the bridge - I'm finding this OK. I've recently got a Yammy BB G5A which is about 11mm at the nut, but still 19 at the bridge, and although I notice the difference, it's still OK for me. I don't use the extra bottom notes much, but my style is to play across the fretboard much more than I could achieve on a 4 string. G.
6. You've got second dibs on this if the current deal doesn't go thorough. G.
7.
...and I've got a basic Aria PJ fretless you could borrow if that'd help you get through a gig.
Much sympathy to you - hope you get deps sorted & glad you saw the dog's point of view!!!! Give him a pat from me. Hope hand gets better quickly. G.
8.
I've had a gt7 for a few years now. Great basses. Had similar frustrations with the electronics. Have changed the pre to an Artec 3 band with sweepable mids, opened up the sound no end. Still debating putting an acg filter in at some point. The pickups are fine imo and very hot once rid of the stock preamp. Also had to change blend pot on artec to a 25k. Hope you get the bass sounding how you like. Pete.
Sorry for the hijack but, Pete, can you tell me why you changed the pan pot on the Artec to 25K? I'm about to put one of these into a Yamaha G5A which has passive P-type pickups in a soapbar shell. Apologies again. G.
9. I recently picked up a Yammy G5A off Ebay for a fairly paltry sum & although there's a couple of things needing done, I'm very pleased with it. However, the pickups which are termed the generic 'soapbar' turn out (after some tapping with a magnetic screwdriver) to be P-type splits in a soapbar shell - both of them, just like the 5-pole P on my Yammy BB415, except the longer element seems to be nearer the bridge: A while ago I had a Yammy RBX375 which had 2-spool humbuckers: and I liked the tone of that very much. Now the route for the BB G5A pickup (including lugs) seems to be 120 x 38mm Could someone who has an RBX375 (or one with the same pups) please measure the route for those pups? If they are pretty much the same, I'd be looking for a pair of the humbuckers, or swap the P-Types for those if anyone's interested. G.

I also have bought a BB G5A which I'll be picking up tomorrow. G.
11. Oggy, I would have had this if I could possibly have picked it up, but I can't - just too far away to be economical, but my band needs something like this & it's a bargain. G.
12.
Ah, I thought you moved. :-) If I had the space and funds I'd be the first to come get this. Currently in the want of a narrower spacing 5-string and I'm used to 35" scale length but alas, until I get round to shifting a load of mine it won't happen. :-( BTW, The Ibanez RD is still in full service. :-)
I'll trade you this for the RD!!! G.
13. El Bumperoonie! (That's Spanish y'know!)
14. Would you be interested in a trade for a Hohner B Bass Pro V with a little (teeny weeny) bit of cash my way? G.
15. I quite liked the passive one I had - it had 1xvolume & 2xtones but couldn't get on with the really clubby neck. G.

I *have* moved & if you want to know where PM me. Anything to trade? G.
17.
I reckon you could do a lot worse than a Cirrus for that money, but as ever I am not qualified to speak about anything ever and should be ignored.
Shameless plug....... http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=145330 G.
18. I snagged one of these off Ebay for <£100. Pics when I get it. Anyone got anything to tell me about it? I note it has V/P/T/B - I have a 3-band semi-parametric Artec in the drawer I'm thinking of installing. The 2-band Artec I have in my Hohner B Bass Pro is pretty decent. I have flats on my BB415, so I'll put rounds on this. In the meantime, somebody please buy the Peavey Cirrus BXP I have in Sales!!!!! G.
19. I didn't know balls had..............never mind! G.
20.
you can use a bigger drill bit than is needed. Just drill slowly (finger and thumb) until it breaks through the shoulder of the head where it meets the shaft and you can lift out the pup. A
Then use mole grips - actually that's exactly what I did (above). G.
