1. Are you sure you haven't put on strings for acoustic by mistake? G.
2. I've just bought one of these: http://www.thomann.de/gb/harley_benton_hbp...scale_ebass.htm Works out at 29" scale. I've put on a set of Roto 88s which I had to 'fix' to get through the winder holes by unravelling some of the outer coatings. For £55 it's pretty decent. Neck's straight, frets aren't sharp, strings intonate. Original strings felt like Roto 66s and were pretty zingy, the 88s bring the thump Tone's good, particularly with the treble at about 4, and the output from the pickup is good enough. I don't know what the body's made of as I haven't taken it apart to check, but it's pretty light. A plywood body ought to be heavier. All in all, a pretty decent 55 quids worth. G.
3. Yup! I have a set of black Schallers on my Westone Thunder III. You can just about see one here: I'll happily swap if you're interested. PM me. Geoff
4. Still a few things available - the Schaller - THIS HAS NOW GONE, the Jazz box, the Baritone AS HAS THIS. I also have a Laney VC30 2x10 and 1x12 ext cab. It has been re-valved with NOS Mallory ECC83s and an ECC82, with 4 new matched Groove Tubes EL84s. The H|H speakers have all been replaced with brand new Celestions (2x10s and 1x12) and a new leather handle fitted with bolts going right through and held by wide washers - no screws pulling out here! £300 collected. - LANEY HAS BEEN SOLD Also!!!! <<A 2U UK-built Ashdown MAG400 (485W@4Ohms) redface - currently in a 3U Warwick Gigbag/box with a 1UBerhinger 5 band fully parametric EQ in the effects loop. I've used this the last 4 years & it has been utterly reliable. I also have the original sleeve for it. Would prefer to sell the amp, EQ & box together but will split if necessary. Would like to clear £250 for the lot, but open to negotiation.>> MAG withdrawn If you are interested in any of these, PM me & I'll do some pics for the items that aren't already in here. Geoff
5. I have a B Bass V, but I have a John East R-Retro in it. G.
6. I'd be interested in this, and I'm sure I have black Schallers somewhere..... However I won't be back home till Sunday to be able to check. G.
7. Are there 6 'legs' on that? You can find thos with various switch configs (on/off, on/off/on, on/on/on) in most electronics shops & on Ebay. G.
8. Are you getting the 'quack' when the bridge pup is solo'd? G.
9. ...........you're clutching at straws here....................... G.
10. There's an Artec pre that fits that, although if you want to keep the switch you'll need to do some experimental wiring. I have one in the drawer I'll be putting in my B Bass V shortly. Reports on these suggest they are pretty decent for the money - Paul Rose used to import these, you might try PMing him to see if he has any left, or buy from Ebay. 11. Greenboy's been raving about Carvin LS1503's over on Talkbass. Trouble is, they are on sale in the US about £181 and they are about £485 over here...... G.
12. Watch out when modifying the baritone - note the Argile Argus ad where it says 'designed to intonate with....'. I have a Yamaha Drop 6: It's designed to use 11-62s, I have 12 - 72s on it and the bottom B doesn't *quite* intonate, the bridge running out of travel just before perfection, but it's near enough. Just a thought. And I could be pursuaded to part with the Yamaha. G.
13. Have you considered down-stringing a 4 string to BEAD? Usually all that's needed are the nut-slots widening just a touch. I played both fretted & fretless 4s tuned BEAD for a year in a Blues band. They went back to standard tuning no probs too. G.
14. I've read that they are too short for Fender/Squier Broncos etc. and Fender Medium scale fit. I have a 29" scale bass - would Fender S/Scale fit? G.
15. I've just had delivered one of these: http://www.thomann.de/gb/harley_benton_hbp...scale_ebass.htm It works out at a 29" scale. It plays amazingly well!!!! The neck's straight, the action was high - fixed by lowering the saddles - and the frets are surprisingly good! The E string was a bit quieter than the others but I put some stronger springs under the pickup & lifted the bass side up toward the string & it's fine now. The strings are not at all flappy as I thought they might be & apart from the fact they are a bit clangy as they are new, it sounds great - I'm really surprised. It feels like a toy, though, and it has a bit of neck dive, believe it or not!! If I can get a set of Roto 88s for it (anyone got some?) I think it'll be amazing. It's the same size as my Strat!! I also have a Schaller 3D bridge in the drawer....... For £55 it's pretty d*mn good. EDIT: Just to say thanks to those offering strings, and that I'm fixed up now. G.
16.
Thanks, but i dont do mail order, ebay, etc,"taste and try before you buy".As long as it has a decent enough feel to it,i can set it up myself, and as it's not going to be my first fretless,im planning on modding it a bit anyway. My first was what felt like 10st of the numbest sounding Ibanez Musician. Btw,which part of Paisley did you escape from ?
I lived down the bottom end of Greenock Road, overlooking the Racecourse. What happened to the Musician? Fancy swapping it for the Thunder III? G.
17. Nothing to stop you playing a bass through a guitar amp providing it's at conversational volumes. G.
18. That's not an instrument - it's an ornament! G.
19. Motley assortment here, but no P's. http://shop.ebay.co.uk/?_from=R40&_trk...-All-Categories G.
20. That'll be DiMarzio UltraSounds, then. G.
