2. Windows Media Player has been able to play at half speed since (at least) XP. G.
3. Putting a smear of vaseline on the screw before putting it in might help....... G.
4.
MB1. ... Well known for his Guitar Virtuosity Mr Cullam ?... ..BUMP!
Naahhh - he was just the boost to my son's momentary interest in playing jazz. Although I wouldn't class him as what I'd recognise as a jazz singer........ G.
5. +1 Battery ground goes to ring, live to tip, signal ground to the shaft. And don't leave the jack plugged in, but you knew that....... G.
6. I'm currently selling my Joe Barden J's as I'm soon going to sell my Hohner B Bass V which is my backup bass & I'd rather sell them seperately. I actually was very impressed by them. Since they are a double-coil/twin rails humbucking design, they are very quiet and ideal for studio use. The twin rail configuration seems to have a 'sensing-window' very similar to the standard jazz pup, so the sounds are very similar, and since they are built to emulate the tone of the early J basses, they do just that. Where I was particularly impressed was actually in the extension of the highs and lows. These pickups seem to sense further down and further up the sound spectrum. This can be brought out when coupled with any decent pre-amp - in my case a John East U-Retro, which will also be up for sale when I get the replacement installed. As already mentioned, these are not a cheap option and I would not have had them had I not bought them second-hand from another Basschat member at a decent rate. I can't find the J's in the UK, but the danny Gatton Telecaster pups are £250 EACH at Axiomatic Music. I suspect the J's won't be far short of that. Would I recommend them? Depends on who's buying. If you're not a working pro or recording artist, the only reason for having them is personal pride, but if you are the former, they are probably as good as it gets in a passive pickup and as quiet too. When I put the EMG Selects back in the J, did I notice the difference? Errrrr, yeeeessssss. G.
7. OLP on hold pending usual. I really thought there would be interest in the Powerblock/Portabass combination? I'll do the pair for £200. G.
8. If you look at 0:31, I'm sure he's got strap locks. G.
9. I worked on a bass with a P pickup not so long ago that had exactly this problem. The E & A were strong, the D less so & the G almost non-existant. In this instance the treble-side pickup had failed & needed a rewind I'm afraid. The only way to check, really, is to get a tech to put a meter across that particular coil & see if there's a reading or if it's open circuit. G.
10. Depends, maybe, more on which pedal it is? My Marshall Gov'ner II has 4 band EQ and can go from a soft mid scooped 'suzz' to all out paint-stripping fuzz. The MXR-80+ is very middy and that channel employs the mids-scoop button permanently! G.
11. Used to play at the open night in the Old Volunteer in Nottingham - the backline there was an old TNT - I plugged in one night via my MXR-80+ which had inadvertantly been left with the volume high, played a note & almost blew down the opposite wall of the pub! It was mightily loud. Turned back to sanity I also always loved the tone I could get from it. If I was young & fit, I'd seriously look at pickup up one of these for pub gigging. G.
12. I saw a band last night and the bassist was playing through 2x4x10 Hartke speakers with a bigish Trace Elliot amp - I wasn't close enough to see which one. To these ears there was no bottom there at all - plenty of low mids, mind, but none of yer pillowy floaty low end. I've read a few reports a bit like this about the Hartke aluminium speakers, and I know you can get ample booty from the TE, so those of you who have alu Hartkes, are they bottom shy, or did the bassist have his hi-pass filter stuck at 120Hz? G.

15.
I had one a few years back and got £50 for it... The sound was very big, uncontrolled and very 'old school'. Perfect for 70's rock. There also was a 2x12 'artiste' series guitar cab the looked very similar I think ?
Thanks for that. G.
16. ............................just 4???????????????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.................................... G.
17. All PMs replied. jap neck and Schaller Volume pedal gone to good homes. G.
18. By 'bolt', do you mean nut? If the retaining nut is continually coming loose, you need to take off the retaining plate (if there is one) and possibly put some kind of locking washer on the socket before putting it through the plate & tightening it properly before replacing the whole assembly. G.
