1. What's the neck like on a 5er ATK? G.
2. There *is* a Fender Jazz with a humbucker, but I'm d**ned if I can remember the model name. G.
3. I suffered from 'lack of GAS' at one time. Don't worry. It doesn't last long. G.
4.
What sort of bass is that Geoff? Looks gorgeous!
It's a Modulus. http://www.musicpark.com.au/B_Guitars.html G.
5.
What sort of bass is that Geoff? Looks gorgeous!
Actually, I don't know - I just Googled jazz bass walnut, clicked on images & picked this particular image. G.
6. I've found that the Marshall Guv'nor II with its 4 band EQ can do just about any kind of distortion you want. G.
7.
Not a Jazz body, and the bridge pup looks to be a little bit back from Stingray position... oh, and it only comes in dullard grey... but there's the Ibanez SRX365: Under £300 new, with a slim neck, 16.5mm spacing and an extra pup into the bargain. Honestly, if it came in any other colour I'd have it. EDIT: The Ibanez site actually says 18mm spacing, but dv247.com says 16.5mm. The plot thickens.
Mmmmmm. Interesting. I think my ideal body would look like this: G.
8. Thanks for the info - appreciated. G.
9. I must admit to being ignorant as to Prosebass. Educate me? Please? Site's inop. G.
10.
You really spoiled it all with that "cheap" bit, Geoff ...
Yeah. I know. But that's the reality when you're retired & not gigging. Damn Drummers! (No offence to drummers intended!!!) G.
11. Right!! I've been playing bass about 5 years now & I'm relatively happy with my progress. I discovered early on I didn't like wide fretboards, but *did* like 5ers. The first 5er I got that suited my hands (small) was the Hohner B Bass V (Cort built). It suits me very well. The next is the Peavey Cirrus BXP V. Slightly wider fretboard, but really nice - currently my No.1 bass. Recently I got aN OLP Stingray 5, & through my MXR-80+ in front of the amp, I love its tone & the B string is superb. However, the neck's not for me as it's one of the baseball-bat variety and my small hand finds it too far of a reach round to the B string. Add to that that I've always admired the Jazz body shape, and you'll see that my perfect bass would be: Jazz body, slim neck, narrow string spacing, 5 string & MM pup in Stingray position. I don't really care about a 2nd pup. Cheap comes into the equation too. Is there anything produced that sounds/looks like that? Cort? Vintage? Either that or I'll trade with someone who likes this kind of neck for a slim one they don't like. Geoff
12. Cracking-looking bass. Looks (to me) like it's built by Cort (typical Cort-style fabrication). I've never played them, but ESP Ltd has had a few decent write-ups both here & on Talkbass. Anyway, pointless now that the listing has ended. G.
13. I had a 'Wanted' specifically for a Fender strap which Julian answered. When I asked how much he wanted for it, he offered it to me for the price of a small donation to Basschat, which was duly done. An excellent chap and a decent little strap!! Thanks Julian. Geoff
14. I've a Hohner B Bass V with a John East U-Retro, if you'd fancy a shot at that? G.
15. Nope! Nobody's talking to you. We're all in the huff!!!! Try Ebay for small Behringer mixers - there are others identical with different brand names. They're fine. G.
16. A Louche of Luthiers? A Clamp of Luthiers? A Plek of Luthiers? A Ramp of Luthiers? G.
17. Looking at a possible venture with the female vocalist from my previous band. She doesn't have a really strong voice, but has a decent range. What's a suitable & sympathetic microphone? I'd heard that the Sennheiser E845S - E855S were like that, but there are mixed reviews on the net. I have no experience in this area, so those of you who have, I'd be much obliged for the benefit of your experience. G.
18. It's probably a decent-ish practice amp. To be honest, 150W for bass is not a great deal, especially in a gigging situation. If you're working with acoustics, even amplified, it should be ok, but it would be struggling against a loud drummer & electric guitarists. The other point is that there is no way of extending it. It's rated at 150W through 4 Ohms & there's a 4 Ohm driver in it. No leeway for an extension cab (& properly, no ext socket). It might be absolutely fine for what it is, but I'd be looking for something like an Ashdown MAG300 combo, which would give about 150W through 2x10 or 1x15 (dependent on which one you get) plus you can add another 8 Ohm cab for the full 300W. This gives you options. 20. Hi Laura. If you fill out your profile page, so we can see where you are, a nearby member (like me) might offer to help you fix it. Geoff
21. Well, here we go again. Le Beump!!!!! G.
22.
Welcome! Bassist wanted section we have ... Found it you have!
G.
23. Played a Cort A6 in Abu Dhabi - best B string I've ever played. Great setup on it, which in my experience, is a bit unusual in yer general music shop. Great bass. G.
24. Radiation poisoning? When I was a kid in the 50's, I had a luminous watch that would have probably been the equivalent of Chernobyl these days...... G.
